There was also a tease in the intro to Ep1 that nobody could identify that is currently punishing my neurotic mind.  The best guess anybody had was Teddy Boy.  Confirmage?

there was also something in beef barley that tim and matt were playing, which everyone in the room thought was something out of Pee Wee\'s Big Adventure, and matt supposedly said he even watched it earlier in the day, but tim shot it down and said it wasn\'t that... so who knows?

Jake\'s tonight was really good. Lots of the jams were tight and they seemed to still be on from the weekend. Couple of repeats from previous weeks but still a solid performance. Glad to hang with Walsh again, he\'s got some good stories. Thanks again!

It\'s not Flight of the Bumblebee, that\'s a different tune, I know that tune.  It\'s the other "everything is fast and zany right now" song.

It\'s the song that forms the backbone of the theme to "You Can\'t Do That On Television"...I know, it was the Lone Ranger theme, right?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qdQomfnCH_0

Cool show, especially WTF and Beef, way out there "mind-fuck" jams.  They\'re definitely taking long trips into strange lands where no band has been before and then somehow finding their way back.  Good times.

Ok... because of the kid thing we couldn\'t be there.  So....how was this week last compared to last week??  Did we miss another amazing kick ass show??

Ser Bumming in Kalafus house yesterday at 5.

BTW....The Lone Ranger Theme was the "William Tell Overture"

IMHO, this was the weakest of the 3 shows. i know it\'s acoustic, but it just didn\'t have the same energy as the other 2. not that it was BAD, cause it certainly wasn\'t, it just didn\'t hold a candle to last week.

Beef Barley stole the show. hands down.

I missed set 1 of show 1, but of what I\'ve seen it went 2-1-3 for the best jakes shows.

Outstanding evening.  I am really mad at myself for missing the two previous weeks!   I love the atmosphere at Jakes.  I totally never could have predicted that was tucked away in Wallyworld.

Nice meeting you, wolfman!:)

out of 10.

It was just the first 2 weeks spewed back at us.

Musically they were right on but lack of effort to comprise a unique setlist is what got me. I felt that this show was just a recap of the previous two weeks of songs.

If I heard Honey Butter I would have knocked someone out.

I couldn\'t figure out why I wasn\'t as into it as the previous weeks, but that\'s why-there was a lot of repeats. They sounded great though and I think, as a whole, this Jake\'s experiment was a success.

Def 2...1...3.  The Funk-A >WTF and the Ep1(even tho they played it every Jake\'s show) were the best jams of the 1st set...very creative.  Sleeping Beauty was cool to hear again.

The Opening jam with the Layla tease was a nice way to start set 2...but the Fairy did nothing for me this week.  Between last weeks version being so good and the jam NEVER once leaving the main theme...it just lagged too much.

The Beef stole the show imo also.  Definitely along the same ultra creative lines as far as jamming goes, as the WTF.  Really got "out-there".  Well done.  I just don\'t like \'Surreal\' so there goes that.  It was cool seeing Matt on guitar and it went well...def no \'Rockin\' in the Free World\', but cool.

Oh and the \'Needle...\' was a great choice for a cover last night.  Love when they play that.  All in all I still had a blast hanging with the BFam again and got some serious high points during WTF, EP 1 and Beef...but last week and this weekends shows might have just raised the bar a little too high as far as expectations go.  Fun little run in Wallyworld tho.

after last night once every 3 months is good for me.

They could have treated these 3 shows as 1 run and spread out their material over the course of 3 shows.

I still had fun.

...good to see that the expactations are as high as they used to be.  maybe that\'s a good thing cuz when they were at their best as a 4-piece, we all acted spoiled and demanded each show out do the one preceeding it, and were all overly critical if it wasn\'t.  don\'t know know what that says.

definately the great times at jake\'s.  last week was the best, not that it matters...this one was experimental in my opinion and with that comes a risk.  no one gets anywhere without taking a few.   echer\'s>sleeping beauty was damn good.  i thought the jam>fairy was great, i don\'t really think that it needed to be all that crazy, i think it was played the standard way and really well.  crossroads was fun and new begining is a song that i would normally hate but for some reason i don\'t.  i always used to hate the "ballads" back in the day, maybe i\'m goin\' soft or something.  other than the the uh, words, i think surreal has some really great music i just need to pretend that they don\'t have a song where they actually sing, "do, rae, me, fa...."  can\'t all blow us away.  now a month without the breakfast begins....

Sheesh.  Wasn\'t at this one, but y\'all are tough on this band.  If they were a cover band, I could see where set lists would be critical.  Even if variety is extra- important for improv based bands, if they\'re jamming, does it matter whether they\'re jamming to the same tunes?   They could jam to just one song the whole night, and you\'re still going to get what you came for - free expression, right?

How could you know how "tough" the board is being when you start by saying you weren\'t there?  It was the least impressive of three shows, where the other 2 were great to amazing.

I, for one, love the fact that this board is getting "tough" because it causes conversation and critical thought about songs/segues/etc...as opposed to the annoying fanboy fluffing that has always terrorized this board.  I don\'t know who gave the board anti-biotics, but it seems to have cured the case of the "BEST.EVER"s.;)

Whether the performance was a good or not is definitely fair game (and you\'re right about the "do no wrong sentiments).  But you didn\'t have to be there to question whether set list variety counts when you\'re dealing with improvisation.  I guess I was just trying to see if playing the same set list is a legitimate criticism when the songs aren\'t played exactly the same each time.

The fact that they played alot of the same songs really didn\'t bother me as much as it has others, I really just felt like compared to the other 2 Jake\'s shows and the previous electric shows this past week...the playing in parts just seemed to be a little flat.  So maybe that is why some have begun to pick on the setlist repeats for this show.  The songs that were great had that little extra something that they had been able to tap into lately, but everything else just fell a bit short.  I really just think they guys were tired after the 4 night run and it made the show a little bit below average for the week, which isn\'t hard to do when everything else had pretty much been fire since 2nd set Daniel St.

After reading my original post, I didn\'t mean to sound so angry.

After all the travelling east > to Syracuse > Syracuse show > travelling back to CT, I was quite Zoned out and didn\'t pay attention to much of the show.
