 !!!

we\'ve actually picked the place. http://www.thorpewood.org its an environmental education center (they bring inner city kids out to the woods and show/teach them things and stuff, from how ecology works to how to build a barn starting with chopping down the trees) out in the mountanis of western maryland (the next mountain range over from camp david, actually) its a cool-ass site and we\'ve got some crazy fun ideas to keep it lively! one of our biggest problems right now is figuring out music. we know what we\'d like, but will the parents, grandparents, aunt and uncle be able to deal.... our single favorite idea right now is melvin sparks and timmy (ala va beach this summer), but that\'s just a pipe dream as of now. luckily we have til may of 08 to figure it out!

From my "review" of the 1st Camp Barefoot
Quote from: Me!

Ok, the final band of the weekend I have mixed feeling about. Midnight Spaghetti & Chocolate G-Strings are one of the oddest bands I have ever seen take the stage. They are very funky and a good band. But the lead singer was another one of those white boy funk rappers. I looked at Todd and Robyn at one point and said something along the lines of "I kinda just want to hit him and I don\'t know why" As FreeSpirit mentioned earlier they had alot of costumes and stage antics. Too me it just seemed like they were trying to hard, if you can play good music just do it, enough with the stage shenanigans, I would rather see a good light show then see the lead singer act like a bafoon for 2 1/2 hrs. But as I said the band was good. We then with Todd and Robyn dragging me along took a midnight hike up what was eventually named stumble hill, came back down and heard a band playing (it was prob 4:30 at this point) went to check it out and Midnight Spaghetti & Chocolate G-Strings had moved their set up from the main stage to a little tent in the camping area and was still playing. I almost prefered them in this scenario because they dropped all the antics, no get ups, just tunes. There were free balloons going around and everyone was getting down. This went on until I went to bed around 7 or 8, and they were still playing.

this info might help out, just alittle inside info from some of the people putting on Camp Barefoot 2:

bands I heard playing:

2 nights of Barefoot Manner (late night fri/headline sat)
2 sets of Garaj Mahal (headline fri)
The Breakfast (right before Garaj Mahal on friday night)
RAQ
The Itals
Dub is a Weapon
The Bridge
Yo Mama\'s Big Fat Booty Band
DJ Williams Projekt
Modern Groove Syndicate
Jazzam
The Burnin Smyrnans
and many other bands to come

I heard the late night on saturday is going to be good.....but for now the lineup is looking pretty good I say...

what happened?
Title: Camp Barefoot II; Gore, VA
Post by: davepeck on December 15, 2006, 06:32:54 pm
possible scenarios:

a) someone at crescendo realized that a show had been leaked with more than 3 weeks notice,  and nipped it in the bud.

b) camp barefoot is canceled.

c) the breakfast is calling it quits after the 7 shows remaining on the calendar.

d) the reunion show is scheduled to take place at the brick house on this night (see c).

e) all of the above.

f) none of the above.

g) some of the above.

Hopefully it\'s just a contract hold, mix up or a blunder by Crescendo....I\'d still be down with going back to one of my absolute favorite festies of all time (and I\'ve been to a countless shit load of them)...BUT, it wouldn\'t be the same if we weren\'t able to see our favorite band on that stage.

:keeps fingers crossed:

i\'m sure we\'ll go back this year just due to its proximity and lad back ness, but the breakfast were really the only reason we decided to go last year. it\'d really suck if they weren\'t there this year. because, honestly, last year\'s set was kind of a blur.

I bet they just removed it cause it\'s so far in advance.  Atleast I hope so, this was a great fest and I\'d love to go again.  Honestly would consider it one way or another.  Would love to go just for Garaj Mahal and DJ WIlliams.

FYI: it\'s still on jambase, not that that really means anything

just talked with heybro productions again and the reason its not on crescendo website is because the deposit hasnt been cashed yet. But the band is still on lock down for the event. I wouldnt look at jambase anyways either due to anybody can add shows to a band, which is a ongoing problem for promoters through jambase...But please stop spreading wrong news about something that is not true unless you know for sure....But to get your facts straight, the breakfast will be playing Camp Barefoot 2 per IRA from crescendo and scott from heybro productions who puts on CB. The show should be posted on crescendo site in the next 2 weeks if that makes you feel better about yourself.

yeah i\'m going to urge you to chill the fuck out.

i posted this show here in mid-november. it\'s been on our calendar ever since, and no one ever said anything about it not happening.

i have not spread any \'wrong news\'. i simply stated that the show had been removed from crescendo\'s side, which, by the way, happens to be \'right news\', true, and a fact (not sure about the sexuality of the fact or not - couldn\'t tell you if it\'s straight or whatever). the show has remained on this site.

i appreciate your attempt to make me feel better about myself, but i feel pretty damn good already, thanks.

I apoligize, not trying to argue with you or anybody, I just dont want people to think this campout is cancelled or the breakfast isnt playing, due to me being friends of the people who put the event on and all the hard work they put toward it to be such a laidback and successful event. Just dont understand why you would post this:

Todd, what were your thoughts on Barefoot Manner?

I enjoyed them. I wouldn\'t travel 8+ hours to see just them, but they were fun. Kinda repetitive at times, but many bands are! My bar is set pretty high. But over all, I\'ll check them out again. Some of the bands last year just made me want to go to the lake and submerse myself in the water, so I couldn\'t hear a thing. This year\'s lineup looks very impressive. Not only that, but they are going to have two stages this year. Last year was only their first go at it, and they did one hell of a job! Can\'t wait to see what they put together for this year. Plus, the property it is on is rivaled by none I\'ve ever been on for a festival!!

Why, you thinking of coming out???

YOU CAN DOOOOOO IT!!!!!!!!

Looks a lot better than last year. Plus I felt like crap during the whole thing......

but I shall be back at this for sure, know a bunch of the guys in a band who is also playing they are from Charlotte, NC. Incognito Mosquito, preety good music, bass player is kickass, check em out. Hope to see a bunch more of the B\'fam down this time, it really is a beautiful place.

Bands look like they have improved ten fold though, Yo Mammas Big Fat Booty Band (also from NC) are pretty good as well, definitly a different sound.

you guys had a great spot last year, maybe the best spot there.  I never really got to check it out but it seemed like the floating cabin wasn\'t worth it, just cause of the distance from the rest of the fest.

it\'d\'ve been cooler if it had been a little nicer. its definitely a primitive camping experience! but, that\'s what its billed as and that\'s what they repeatedly warned us it was gonna be like, so i\'m not complaining. and having it removed from everything was actually kinda nice, we got some time to watch the pond and be by ourselves, joining the fray whenever we felt like it. which was usually.... i would say that its overpriced, though. that was one of the most expensive camp sites i\'ve ever seen. true, its the only camp site i\'ve ever had that floated, but still, that didn\'t justify the extra price nearly enough. oh well, live and learn. the story of the floating cabin is better than the actuality of the floating cabin, but when told in conjunction with the story of the proposal and the whole weekend, i wouldn\'t have had it any other way! :)

but yeah, this year i wanna be in the main area for sure. i mean hell, we missed midnight spaghetti last year and i\'m not gonna risk the same mistake this year!

Thats the rumor going around that with mike from monkey navigated robots being steve kimocks old roomate back in the day and this being kinda side project for the bass player and banjo player from barefoot manner if kimocks schedule isnt too hectic he will be there doing guitar workshops and making special appearances...But not getting my hopes up too much, there is plenty of good music there anyways..
Barefoot Manner
Garaj Mahal
RAQ
The Breakfast
Brothers Past
The Itals
Dub is a Weapon
Yo Mama\'s Big Fat Booty Band
The Bridge
DJ Williams Projekt
Modern Groove Syndicate

I also heard through the grapevine that they are trying to add one more band on thursday night and it from what I hear it might be U-Melt or Spam Allstars....

that would really top the cake...

I love pedal steel, what a great sounding instrument.

No offense to U-Melt fans out there but I really hope the other band is the Spam Allstars.

actually i forgot that the bridge is gonna be there. guys, if the band really wants to start pulling big crowds in baltimore, they need to do shows there with the bridge! they were the funk by ten\'s wednesday night band for a year-ish and have a very dedicated following. maybe abreakfast set>bridge set>breakfast set>bridge set kinda deal. not to mention that the biggest bridge fans i know are also big breakfast fans, so there\'s an overlap of like minds, if not like music....

modern groove syndicate is real fun, too. they\'re from richmond, along with dj williams. the guys should do their best to try to link up with either/both of those acts so they can start playing richmond, too!

and yes, anything i can suggest to help get the breakfast to play more shows within an hour or so of me, i will! :selfish:

but frankly, with that lineup, if there\'s any way to have a super-jam late night kinda deal with any and all of those musicians, i think it would be truly ser!

I saw the Bridge open for the guys in Teaneck NJ, prob 4yrs ago, they\'re def very cool, one of the guys does beatox and did beatbox on a Breakfast tune, though I forget which one, but it was very cool.

edit: found it

Setlist: 11/20/2003 - Mexicali Blues; Teaneck, NJ

The Chase, Dig, What the Funk* > Earache My Eye > Fairy, Tribal Funk Affliction, I Never Picked Cotton**, Working Class Hero**, The Vermont Song**, Gravity > Food For Thought^ > Funky Bill\'s Circus Cliche

* Kenny on beatbox
** Ron/acoustic bass, Tim/acoustic guitar; Adrian/acoustic guitar;
Jordan/melodica
^ Duct Tape is like the force. It has a light side and a dark side,
and it holds the universe together. Star Wars Teases

Any suggestions on who you would like to see thats in the same type of price range as the lineup that is announced already...

Moonshine Still

I personally would be happy either way, I saw Moonshine Still for the first time at Camp Barefoot last year and really liked them(infact this choice reminds me that I wanted to check out more of their stuff). I didn\'t actually "see" Spam Allstars last year but I coud hear their whole set from our campground, and they def sounded good.  Both good bands.

I\'ve checked them out a few times. They are good musicians, but they get stale for me quite quickly. Their jams start to build and make me think "oh...they\'re about to go into something very cool...wait...wait...wait...it\'s coming...it\'s coming" and then after waiting for what seems like an eternity of a flat jam, the song ends. Then I stand there thinking "what the fuck? I thought that was going somewhere." But it just doesn\'t. Maybe it\'s just me, but I think they could do and be soooo much more, but they aren\'t. I will still give them another chance...or two...or three, but I wouldn\'t go out of my way to do it.

I really couldn\'t have said it better myself.  Except the fact that I have already given them many chances, and I\'m over it.  That being said, there\'s not much that would keep me from this festival right now, I\'m there one way or the other UMelt or no.

Anyone going to this? looks like some small hokey festival i guess. Camp Barefoot.

the lineup is not that bad as far as small jamband festivals go. read that the capacity is only 1,000. don\'t know what to make of that. that small of a festival could either be really sketchy or chill. either way, it will make for a nice outdoor show.

i just moved to VA recently and figured since i\'m only an hour away i\'d check it out.

Trust me...I\'m almost 40 years old...been going to festivals ever since I\'ve been 16...and LOTS of them!!! This is one festival (if you can even call it that!), that is NOT to be missed!! Last year was their first year, but by the way they put it on and how welcome it was and smoothly it went, you\'d think that they had been doing it for years!  We\'re going again this year, and it is one of the highlights of our summer (this and Block Island). This is such a chill atmosphere and such a beautiful piece of property!!!!

this will be our return to barefoot.  last year was a lot of fun as 2 friends got engaged during the show.  the whole night was a lot of fun.....this year should be just as much if not more fun.....definitely looking forward to this...

regarding the buffalo creek scene, you could tell there were a lot of frat and college kids at this festival because there was definitely no heady "keep the scene green" vibe at all......i didnt see any fights and was running around that place like a mad hatter.....i thought it was a pretty laid back dowhatyalike lil festie......

This was my best-ever festie!!!  OK, so it was the only one I\'ve ever been to, but I had such a great time, I don\'t want to go to any others - it might ruin what I have in mind as to what a festival is...

This had everything available in close proximity (music, food, drugs, etc.) and the lake was gorgeous & fun to swim in!  I also vaguely remember a 4Runner 4WD run in the backwoods, living on hotdogs and Yuengling beer, and a steep mountain behind our site.  While I really wish Midnight Spaghetti and the Chocolate G-Strings would be back this year, I\'m sure the variety of bands will be entertaining!  Anyone who is debating, shut the hell up & buy a ticket already!  Too late for VIP passes, but maybe you can chill at our campsite ;)

yeah, jill just ahd a major work paradigm shift. its a good thing because it got her a $14,000 raise, but its bad because it also pretty much added 14,000 hours of work. i may get out there earlier, but if i wait for her, there\'s literally no telling when we\'d make it for sure.

tell mandler to get his shit together and get on the bus (or, in this case, in the 4runner)!

thats really sad then. what the fuck is going on with the breakfast sites btw? why is everything so behind? the setlist page has last been updated in april..the promo page is non existent. arent their people taking down the setlists at each show? if not for new fans to get into the band cant we at least post new stuff (dates/setlists/etc) for existing fans of the band?

i cant wait for matt to join the band but i feel completely out of the loop since their show on rocks off..(havent heard any brekfast recordings since and other then a few setlists, havent realy read anything about their past few shows)
