Post by: Me! on June 06, 2006, 03:29:31 pm
I kinda have a feeling I\'m the only person on here that watches this show, but whatever.  This is a great show, it takes a little while to get used to the dialogue but once you do......

I\'m very excited for this season can\'t wait to see how Deadwood ends up....

LOS ANGELES - There will be life in "Deadwood" after this season, with HBO and series creator David Milch agreeing to wrap up the drama with a pair of two-hour specials.

The saga of the rough-and-tumble 19th-century mining town looked like it might end with its 12-episode third season, which begins this Sunday, when Milch and HBO couldn\'t reach agreement on details of another year.

HBO had offered an abbreviated six-episode season. Milch wanted a dozen, because he constructs each episode to reflect a day in the town\'s life and felt he couldn\'t wrap the series in fewer, HBO spokeswoman Nancy Lesser said Tuesday.

The deal for the two specials, suggested by Milch, was reached over the weekend, she said.

"It allows him to work on a broader canvas through these specials," Lesser said. "He found a way to bring closure to the narrative and remain true to the themes of the material and spirit of the characters."

When and how the specials will air, whether back-to-back or otherwise, has yet to be determined.

Options for the large ensemble cast, which includes        Ian McShane and        Timothy Olyphant, had been allowed to lapse for season four so contract negotiations for the specials are ahead, Lesser said.

Milch also is focusing on another series in development for HBO with the working title of "John From Cincinnati," a surfer drama set in California.

Deadwood\'s first true elections are approaching, with the offices of sheriff (Bullock vs. Harry Manning, a bartender at Nuttall\'s Number Ten) and mayor (E.B. Farnum vs. Sol Star) to be contested. Sunday night, the candidates are expected to state their case to the townspeople--protocol that unnerves one taciturn incumbent while exciting a more glib one.

This Sunday at 9pm ET, don\'t miss the season premiere of Deadwood.

This sunday I can\'t fuckin wait......

can\'t wait to se how this season progresses.  Enjoyed the episode.  Was glad to finally see someone kick the shit outta E.B. he\'s such a pain in the ass.  If Sal doesnt\' win for mayor I\'ll be upset.  I dont\' particularly like the Elsworth marriage, but I\'m sure back then that\'s what would have actually happened.  Toliver has found God?? We\'ll see about that.  And now Hearst has bought out the Hotel?? Slowly makin his way to owning the whole town??  He already owns all the gold claims other than Mrs.Garret/Elsworths....

One of the better lines in the episode though:
"Every day takes figurin\' out all over again how to fuckin\' live." -Jane
You think an addict wrote that line? (the creater is an ex heroin addict)

I finally had the chance to catch up on my Deadwood, god I love this show.

2 good episodes, I loved the whole thing with the x\'s, Great scene too.  The relation ship between Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth is getting very uncomfortable, Hearst\'s "aunt" is great, she\'s a great addition to the cast, a spark.  Love that Joanie finally called Sy the devil, it\'s about time someone did, but he\'s already being outshadowed by Hearst.  I hate to see Al get fucked up like that but he took it like a man.  Def liking this season so far....

Me!- I assume she is pregnant and doping. They never really spelled it out either way though. (did you miss an episode or somethin?)

I really shouldn\'t watch shows like this in front of people.  What I\'ll laugh at or applaud could seem odd without full knowledge of where it\'s coming from.

No I didn\'t miss anything, just couldn\'t tell if Doc performed an abortion or just some other operation.  Like you said it wasn\'t exactly spelled out.

I know exactly what you mean, I was laughed when Bullock freaked out on the horse stable guy about signing the contract, "just fuckin sign it" it was an intense moment, but just cause it was Bullock and he\'s so close to going over it was kinda funny.  You need the history of the characters to really understand everything

the doc performed the abortion i\'m fairly certain.  that was what the surgery was when they were setting the mirror and all that jazz.  pretty sure someone told bullock of it right after as well.

Dan fuckin\' Dorrity kicked ass this week.  i was worried the captain would get the best of him but he pulled thru.

I loved the scene when Farnum went to the Gem and was reminising about his past time w/ Al\'s boys.  I\'m slowly warming up to him.  The whole side plot about the actors and the new theater is losing me.  It just seems like wasted minutes to me, but who knows, his connection w/ Swerengen might come full circle at some point.

Bullock asks Charlie Utter if he\'d stand watch outside Alma\'s place while he gives his speech that night. After Alma goes under, Trixie and Doc argue as they see to her. "When you\'ve done with hers Doc, why don\'t you f**king kiss mine?"

From this stufftaken from the episode guide, I\'m thinking she did not have an abortion, but a surgery to make sure she wouldn\'t have a miscariage, but it\'s not completely clear.  (this has been bothering me, so I looked into it)

Now, that I think about it maybe she did have an abortion.

Anyway, I currently work as a loan officer, and whoever wrote the whole Bullock- sign or \'ll fucking kill you plot has definately worked in banking.  It was just too perfect.

What scared the wife though is when I cheered the eye gouge. Years ago working as a bouncer some goon who had me by at least 70 pounds was choking the shit out me and guess what he got (to a much lesser extent of course).

Aunt Lou\'s long-lost son, Odell Marchbanks, arrives in Deadwood after a circuitous trip from Liberia, although his mother soon attempts to orchestrate his immediate departure. Bullock and Swearengen contemplate a preemptive strike against Hearst, whose ire has been inflamed overnight. Alma\'s bad habits lose her the bank services of Trixie and, possibly, the attentions of her husband Ellsworth. Her indisposition also makes her vulnerable to Hearst, who\'s apprised of her condition by an anxious Tolliver, playing both sides. Swearengen summons Dority to be at the ready to travel to Cheyenne for reinforcements. Stubbs offers Jane a place to stay, again.

Last night\'s episode was a little weak and certainly not for the part time viewer.  It took me a few minutes to figure out just what they were trying to accomplish with Bullock\'s letter.  Even after that, I still disagreed with the tactic.  Why don\'t they just go into his hotel, shoot Hearst and feed him to Wu\'s pigs?
I know a little about the history of Deadwood so I know how it ends, but still.
BTW- I heard they have casinos out there now.

I\'m really hoping Doc doesn\'t die, he\'s a great character.

Not sure exactly what Odelle is trying to pull off but I smell trouble.  Hearst is def on his last legs, get Wu\'s pigs ready there\'s gonna be a war in Deadwood.

Can someone tell me who the guy is that plays Odelle, he looks sooo familiar.

Finally got a chance to catch up on my HBO shows, watched the last two episodes of Deadwood and Entourage.

You can def feel everything coming to a head in Deadwood.  LOved the final scene with Al singing what sounded like an older version of "the streets of loredo"  The whole Amatuer night thing was hilarious. (that was considered a talent??)  Also loved the moments with aunt lou and Richardson, checking the noches and her crying with him.  can\'t wait to see how everything comes to a head with Hearts army and the elections.

Ok I was gonna let this thread die, cause no one seems to give a shit, but last sunday\'s episode may have been the best one of the season thus far.  Loved Al jumping off the balcony to aid Mrs. Ellsworth, the whole thing with Hurst\'s guy and finding out aobut the "army" on it\'s way.  Loved Al\'s speach to Hurst after he killed his guy to perfect.

the only thing that really got me about this episode is the sstoryline with Jane, something about it just doesn\'t work for me.  It seems unnecesarry

The show is based in historical events, so the eventual outcome is certain.

But I still can\'t help but think when ever I watch, wouldn\'t it be too damn easy to just shoot Hearst?  I mean, he\'s a cocksucker, and everone hates him.  After all this is the Wild West.  Isn\'t that how problems are solved?

Another thing I found interesting- The real Al Swearengen was about 35 when these events took place.  (Ian McShane is in his 60\'s; though I believe they attempting to portray Sweargen as around 45-50)  He was much closer in age to Bullock than to Hearst, though in the show it\'s the opposite.
Think about a much younger man playing Swearengen.  It would be a completely different show.  That said McShane is the best part of the whole show.

WOW! what an episode.Only one left people.  Was very sad to see Ellsworth go :(  He has come such a long way from being the drunk in the first few episodes.  He had become endearing.  I think we may see Trixie go in the next episode as well.  and from the "next week" peview it looks like Johnny is gonna get himself in a heap of trouble too.will bullock and Mrs. Garret/Ellsworth get back together?  "Wu,big man."

btw:I like Brian Cox\'s character (the actor).  He\'s a little out of place but it works, I like the little snippets he adds.

With no idea when these "movies" are coming, I find that ending almost frustrating.  But I guess they gotta keep you waitng for more.  Some very tense moments, wasn\'t sure if Al was gonna get away for a second.

All in all I don\'t think this season quite lived up to the first two, but very good none the less.  I read somewhere that the David Milch is busy working on another series for HBO (a surfer sotry) so the destiny of Deadwood is up in the air...... for the time being

yeah i agree.  the season as a whole was good, but that last episode was a little anticlimactic.  i wasn\'t paying 100% attention, so maybe i should watch again.  but all this raising of arms and bringing back hawkeye and wu just to see hearst off was a little weak.  again, maybe they have something planned for the final 2 whenever those come around, but i dunno, they could\'ve ended the season better than that.

Milch: \'Deadwood\' Movies Still Alive
Creator hopes to start after wrapping \'John from Cincinnati\'
By Rick Porter
January 13, 2007

Following the unceremonious end of "Deadwood" as a series last summer, a number of the show\'s fans declared that they wouldn\'t be watching creator David Milch\'s new show, "John from Cincinnati" -- because it\'s not "Deadwood."

Milch, naturally, hopes those people will eventually change their minds. And it sounds as if those fans may yet get a conclusion to the saga of Al Swearengen, Seth Bullock et al.

"The first thing I\'d say to them is thanks for appreciating the work that we\'ve done," Milch said Friday during a session for "John from Cincinnati" at the winter press tour in Pasadena. "And you know, I spent a significant portion of yesterday in collaboration with Evan Wright, who\'s a wonderful writer, with whom I\'m doing the first of the two \'Deadwood\' two-hour films. And we\'re very optimistic about the outcome of that work."

After plans for a fourth season of "Deadwood" fell apart last year, HBO and Milch reached a deal to produce a pair of two-hour films to wrap up the story. There has been some skepticism about whether the movies will actually get made, but Milch is optimistic.

"We have every intention of going forward," he says. He hopes to start work on the first film this summer, after "John" finishes production on its first season. Wright is a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and author of the book "Generation Kill" about the Iraq war.

Of reports that he had intended for "Deadwood" to run four seasons, Milch has this to say: "You know, the big thing to keep in mind when you hear those sorts of statements that I had planned on a fourth season on this -- I\'m a sociopath. You know, someone asked me, how long do you intend to do \'Deadwood\'? And as part of my sociopathology, I say, \'Well, when does my contract run out?\' And I realize my contract ran out at the end of four seasons. So I\'m thinking, \'How does the kid exert the most leverage in the negotiating package for four seasons?\' ...

"So the answer is, I never had a specific -- listen, when I pitched \'Deadwood,\' I pitched it as a series set in Rome at the time of the Nero. Does that sound like I know what I\'m talking about?"

That said, he realizes that the "abrupt rupture" of the end of "Deadwood" affected the show\'s fans, just as it did him and the cast and crew.

"But you know, there are certain rooms where one frequently hears the expression \'life on life\'s terms.\' ... We\'re going to put \'John From Cincinnati\' on, and it\'s my deepest hope that, in the scheme of things, enough forgiveness is available from those viewers to just give it a chance. And if I\'m given strength and time, we\'re definitely going to do more \'Deadwoods.\'"

Quote from: www.savedeadwood.tv
May 2007:  Rumors are circulating about if and when the movies will be made, none of these rumors are verifiable. "A man cannot eat a rumor, or use to to clothe himself". The gist of it all seems to be that unless the movies are made very soon, they will not be made at all. After June, the major actors reportedly have other commitments.  HBO CEO Chris Albrecht has been fired from HBO, it\'s unknown how or if this development will affect Deadwood\'s future.
