Considering dpeck\'s recent avatar I figured i wasn\'t the only one watching tonight.   I had no idea that they were doing the soprano\'s thing and returning in a few months to end the season.  Pretty friggin\' whack if you ask me....the last two minutes of the episode were basically the only good moments so far this season.


I watched the whole first two seasons on dvd this summer, so i\'m not used to the whole waiting a week in between epi\'s either, so i have been very dissapointed so far.  But considering the ending of tonights episode and the fact that all the seasons have gotten better as they progress, hopefully when it returns in Feb. we will get some actual entertainment.

i didn\'t read your post. here\'s my deal:

picked up lost seasons 1 & 2 on DVD not too long ago, and wanted to get through them before S3 started. we got through them pretty quick (about 2 months), but not quite in time for the S3 premiere.

i\'d been downloading the S3 episodes so i could get caught up, but after S3E03, someone put together an incredible DVD of the first 3 episodes ripped from HD, and posted it on usenet. so we watched the first 3 episodes of this season, but i\'m waiting for this guy\'s DVD 2 to watch the next 3. then we\'ll be caught up and i\'ll finally be able to watch LOST in HD after the break (and i\'ll also be able to read your post) ;).

season 3 sucks... nothing has happened. the next 16 episodes better answer some shit, because this is rediculous. jack kate and sawyer are probably going to end up joining the others or something, if they don\'t kill sawyer first.

god damn it\'s great to have LOST back.. i hate the new timeslot, but managed to tough it out last night. the break was so long and pointless, and i\'m really glad there\'s no more breaks this season..

really strong episode, i thought. would have liked to have seen what the other island was up to, but understand that they had to pick up where the last one left off..

crazy shit going on with carl in that room he was in..

loved the \'final destination\' bus accident. :wah:

great ending.. gonna be really interesting to see what\'s in store for jack with juliet leaving. can\'t wait til next week!

RE: The Bus.

I totally called it. They were on the sidewalk and when the scene just starts you get a really quick glimpse of a city Bus. I turned to Kim and said he is dying right now. Then WHAM.

I kind of felt let down by last nights episode tho. I mean it has been months since the last episode and thats what they give us. A basic Lost episode. Not that much happened. We got another background on a new person so to speak.

And something that really bugs the crap out of me. If you have been on the Island with the plane crash victims your telling me no one has noticed another very large island only 2 miles off shore ?

I am to invested in the show now to give up on it but they better bring the heat soon because they are getting left behind by shows like Heroes and even 24 kind of. Hell house is better written etc.

While I\'m still yet to see this show, it reminds me a great deal of The prisoner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner). If you like lost you should definetly check this show out. Also, if you are a simpsons fan you are going to all of  a sudden get a few 100 jokes that always went right over your head. A lot of public libraries including southington and wallingford have the episodes.

blame ABC. they wanted the break. there was no reason for it whatsoever. i mean, i didn\'t think the end of E6 left you with anything you should have to think about for 2+ months, nor should it.. the writers shouldn\'t have to insert \'wow\' moments for episodes 6 and 7 of a long season, just because the network decides to slice and dice it any way they see fit..

Yes I watch them. They are usually never what you think tho. A teaser that has an alternate explanation then the one they want you to think.

The reason they did the break is pretty obvious, they wanted a strong contender for sweeps to go against american idol so that they can show good earnings in both 4th and 1st quarter instead of increadible earnings in 4 and dismal in 1st. That way it looks like the rest of thier pathetic lineup of shows is stronger than they really are.

Thought the episode was good not great, better than the start of the season where sawyer is brainless (wiseguy)punching bag.   Too violent for a psycho-drama. Make it science fiction cerebral.
      Jacks a pretty clever surgeon, eh?  to play that trick on them. Eh? ;/
     The brain washing thing was out there but that guys girlfrnd should have been allowed to leave the island by Juliet.     And I totally agree they have to stop doing flashbacks on new characters ----they are making this into some kind of Russian epic; we can only handle sixteen MAJOR characters; well, at least my little pea-brain can.  Are they going to have a three month wrap up when its all over?    All nine viewers will  be LOST by then!

what an absolute mindfuck last night. i loved it. there\'s MANY ways you can interpret the whole thing with Desmond. personally, i think there truly is time travel happening (building on all the \'time\' stuff from last week), but with the element of fate thrown in there. the ring lady made it very clear that it wouldn\'t matter if she\'d told red-shoe-guy about the scaffolding -- he was going to die anyways. i think this is why Desmond chose to leave Penny - because he realized that it was going to happen anyways.

then again, he\'s at the pub later and decides that he CAN try to change things, but when he does, he gets hit in the head and wakes up back on the island (in the now?).. the fact that he wakes up naked on the island also hints at time travel (see The Terminator)..

still a LOT of questions surrounding Desmond though, like what the HELL was going on in the last scene of season 2...

LOVED the ending. "you\'re gonna die, charlie". eerie!

should i not even bother watching the new episodes yet? i just got into this show recently. my roommate rented all of the seasons on dvd and we have decided to watch every single one lol.. i had no idea the new one was on last night and was actually watching season 2 (i think). then again, i have "fall asleep when too comfortable on a couch syndrome" so i forget where exactly i left off. would i be completely lost if i just started watching the new ones now??

yes.

i firmly believe that LOST is a show that you *have* to watch from the beginning. the detail in this show is like no other that i\'ve seen before, and everything is connected.. start from the beginning, and enjoy the ride.

The show\'s crew had to reshoot the scenes because there were no copies.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened," said state Film Commissioner Donne Dawson, adding that steps have been taken to prevent a repeat of the incident.

The loss will not affect the broadcast schedule for the popular show, according to co-executive producer Jean Higgins.

Higgins declined to say how much the gaffe cost ABC.

"That\'s proprietary information between us and the insurance company," she said. "We\'ve already reshot. We are still on schedule."

Having to reshoot film is a monumental issue, said Anne Misawa, a local film producer and instructor at the University of Hawai\'i Academy for Creative Media. A reshoot involves paying added costs for actors and venues.

For a commercial, those costs could easily top $100,000, and for a big-budget production such as "Lost," a reshoot could be more expensive. "You have to redo everything related to the production of the damaged dailies," Misawa said.

"Lost" reportedly spends $1.5 million to $2 million or more per episode with about 200 full- and part-time workers. Normally it takes about eight days to shoot an episode of "Lost." So if one day\'s worth of film was destroyed, the cost could be close to $200,000.

A commercial for Bank of Hawaii also was accidentally X-rayed and ruined on the same day the "Lost" film was X-rayed.

The incidents occurred when the film canisters were mistakenly mixed with passenger luggage and then sent through an X-ray machine. The canisters were left unattended at X-ray machines along with other non-film cargo. The film apparently was then thrown in with piles of passenger luggage without regard for the warning labels indicating not to X-ray the sensitive contents within.

According to an informational Web site run by the film office, the mistake occurred following a new Transportation Security Administration cargo security directive that requires that all small cargo packages traveling on passenger planes be screened by air carriers via an explosive detection system or explosive trace detection system.

Explosive trace detection testing involves TSA agents swiping items with cotton pads then testing the pads in a machine that detects explosive residue. That test would not destroy film.

Film shot in Hawai\'i typically is sent to the Mainland for processing.

The state film office said it has worked with TSA and United Airlines to put a new process in place that will prevent future accidents.

"The issue has been addressed, and they have procedures in place to make sure it doesn\'t happen again," said Dawson, the state film commissioner.

They might. The insurance company will pay out to ABC / Lost and then if they think they have a shot at recouping their loss from the TSA then they will go after them. Not Sure if the TSA has any liability tho. they may have a blanket policy of not being responsible for lost or damaged items. Not sure if it would hold up in a legal case however.

i don\'t notice ALL of it, but this show has taught me to keep my eyes peeled. on the first view, i noticed the paint can, the painting, wonderwall (thought about it after the episode).. but the hume/locke stuff i would have never known without teh internets.

one of, if not THE worst episode of the series. what a snoozefest. i almost went to bed around 10:25 because i was so bored with it. after last week\'s masterpiece, this was a HUGE let down.

i\'d imagine i\'d be even more pissed if i watched the previews/commercials for this episode..

i really hope it picks back up next week.

as for last night....

gotta agree with you dave, nothing that intense or enlightening really happened.  It was nice to find out about jack\'s tattoo, been wondering since the first episode when he talks about it with kate.  But besides that, the introduction of the new character "the sheriff" left something to be desired. the scene with the flight attendant was sorta cool. i wish jack wasn\'t so grumpy from waking up from his sex dream, so he could have gotten some more info.  also i would like to get back to some of the other characters who we haven\'t heard anything about....especially michael and walt.  but i guess it will all come in time.  here\'s hoping for a better next week....

I have allowed myself to not expect much from the show so it has been better.

The re-infiltration of the losties was a little weak IMO but we shall see how it plays out.

One mystery solved: \'Lost\' to end in 2010

The end is in sight for ABC\'s acclaimed island mystery Lost, but fans will have to wait until 2010 for all the answers.
In a highly unusual move, the network announces plans today to end the show after three more shortened seasons of 16 episodes each. The episodes will air consecutively, repeat-free, from February to May.

ABC\'s bold step marks a response to the show\'s producers, who have been eager to set a finish line to better plot out their convoluted mystery of plane-crash survivors and to placate fans who are frustrated that the show seemed to be vamping its way to a conclusion.

"Among fans there was an unease that they were making an investment in a show that\'s complicated without any sense of where that\'s going to lead them," co-creator Damon Lindelof said in an exclusive interview. "From the very beginning, fans and even critics have been saying, \'Are you making it up as you go along?\' " which was "a legitimate question."

Now, with a still far-away ending in sight, Lindelof says he and executive producer Carlton Cuse have "specific designs for ending the next two seasons" and promises that with the answer-filled season finale May 23, viewers "will begin to get an idea of what that design will be, and it will not be at all what they expect."

The finale completed filming in Hawaii on Saturday, a day after Lindelof and Cuse signed new contracts that will keep them working on Lost exclusively for the duration. With 48 more episodes due, the show will have completed 60% of its planned six-season run.

"It\'s practically unprecedented in network TV to announce the end of a show this far out," Cuse says.

ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson says the unusual long-term commitment is "a unique situation" he would be unlikely to repeat for other series. "It\'s one of the best shows that\'s ever been on," he says. "It\'s got brilliant storytelling, incredible character work, and takes chances beyond anything that\'s on the air now."

With Desperate Housewives, Lost re-energized ABC in fall 2004 and became a top 10 series. But after two time-slot switches, interruptions for low-rated repeats and a mystery that tried the patience of some fans, Lost has lost some steam. Ratings are down about 14% this season, though Lost still ranks highly among young adults and is the most heavily recorded show on DVRs.

McPherson concedes that splitting the current third season in two "was not the best for the show" and says the network also is discussing a return to an earlier time slot to draw more family viewership.

Shorter seasons will allow plots to be more tightly constructed and "will make it a real event," Lindelof says. "We won\'t have to do episodes where people are standing on the beach looking at the water and wondering what\'s going to happen next."

Will Lost risk losing fans\' interest with an eight-month lag? "People wait longer than eight months for the next books and films in the Harry Potter story and they don\'t seem to lose interest," Cuse says. "We have faith that our audience, knowing exactly how much of the story we have left, is going to be with us for the rest of the ride."

But, Lindelof says, "the last five minutes of (this month\'s) finale are going to seal our fate."

16 episode seasons = weak. the Harry Potter comparison is a terrible one. That book and series have been printed more than any other book except the bible I believe.

The last few episodes have been good but I don\'t know if the show has 3 season left. and shortened seasons. People will forget about it and other better newer shows will continue to steal losts thunder.

I would guess the show gets cancelled before 2010

Though i stopped watching this season about 3 or 4 epi\'s in, i\'ve heard that it has gotten significantly better since then.  I have not read or posted anything in this thread since i stopped watching, and won\'t read anything you may respond to this post, until i have caught up with the season, hopefully sometime soon.  BUt since i created this thread i thought i should stop by and say enjoy the show tonight dave and whoever else will be watching.
