Post by: psychjosh on January 04, 2004, 01:16:06 pm
I love sharingthegroove and furthur but I\'m begging our traders out there to get some PB circulating on etree!!!!
I was on the site and ran a search for PB to find "NO BT\'s available"

There are so many people trading and sharing through etree I think it is equally as importrant to have a strong presence up there.

peace

actually, for now, i\'ll just say this:

all future PB BitTorrents should be posted on etree\'s tracker (http://bt.etree.org). then post links and info about the torrent here, and on sharingthegroove (http://www.sharingthegroove.org).

i\'ll post more in-depth info later on..

We should update PB\'s SHNs in circulation list on etree and add the links to archive.org to downloaded them. there are 62 PB shows on there that can be downlaoded and no one seems to even talk about it. and its so fast that you can downloaded a 3 disc show in 1-2 hours.

Actually there is. people have to be sharing files themselves for bt.etree.org, furthur, stg, and pbfans torrents. so if you are trying to get a show on all 4 sites you will need a lot of people hosting files and there are not enough pb fans to do that yet. It will be very hard to get anything started and the shows will never spread. it would be easier to pick the most popular site to share torrents and then upload everything to archive.org as well because that site runs its own servers. so once a show is there it will be there forever and the download speeds will always be fast.

chris - you\'re right about archive.org. can\'t say enough good things about it.. i will be uploading more shows there soon.

but i think you\'re missing the point about BT... the great thing about BT is that you only need *one* tracker. then you can spread the show on as many sites as you like. that\'s why i want to start using the etree tracker - more exposure. so you simply create and upload the .torrent with their tracker, and the show is announced there. then you can attach that same torrent file here, sharingthegroove, and wherever else..

im curious to know why i got basically every bands nye show, off etree, and still havent found breakfast.if we get them up there i think it could really help to get the name out.i know that i dl shows off etree, just because soo many other people are either dl them or seeding them,so i get shit so quick.if we all seed it out and leave our windows open and shit everyone will jump on it.if they like it they like it.if not then fuck it.guaranteed75% of people dl shit off etree, who have never heard of breakfast, will love them....or at least say they are decent musicians!!

Would you mind spearheading that for us? I know nothing about those sites other than we NEED to be all over them.

I all for it! We can\'t sell it because of the songs on it and they played a GREAT show!

We shoud get it out there and on Rhapsody ASAP! (providing the band is down and the recording came out well!)

Don\'t under estimate the Groove. We get ALOT more traffic then bt.etree.org. Also wait untill you see our new tracker, part of it us up. All I\'m saying is do not under estimate the Groove.

Tracker:
http://tracker.sharingthegroove.org/track/stats.php

As of now The Groove is the 12,065 largest site on the net. We have had over 35 million hits today alone. All the info can be found here.

I know buddy! I\'m not dissin the Groove at all. I just think/know.. that if we want to be effective.. we need to have shit on every available site that gets traffic and you and etree and futur are the big 3!

I agree, btw people on my site are asking more some PB shows. Lets get them to the masses, there\'s over 800 people online now.

The more people that get the music the better. The Groove turns 1 in Febuary. So if you could get a bunch of shows for me to host as part of the birthday celebration, that would be huge.

Dave/Matt/Chris, if you could start a vine. That would be huge too.

The best way to do it it run the torrent off of etree and post the links on sharingthegroove and pbfans. it doesnt matter where the torrent is hosted from just as long as people have access to it. People will also see it when they browse torrents on bt.etree.org so it should definately be posted there and then just linked to sharingthegroove and pbfans.

I will try to track out my recording and FLAC it tonight so i can start uploading it to archive.org.

exactly my point.

the whole point of hosting it on etree is that people go to bt.etree.org, and boom, it\'s there. right in front of you. and it\'s on the front page for a couple days.

gray, this isn\'t a competition.. i know you and the etree don\'t see eye to eye on some things, but we all ultimately want the same thing here. it\'s the combined efforts of all these sites that will make this the most productive in the long run.
Title: etree or stg?
Post by: boombox on January 11, 2004, 03:38:23 pm
While I agree with davepeck\'s idea to get as much exposure as possible, why does it need to be on etree and announced elsewhere? STG is a far better site in terms of appealing to a wider range of listener. Surely it\'s easier to keep it all in one place.

etree IS the accepted grail for dead trading, but it is very limited in scope. Apart from the bigger bands like gd, phish, dmb etc, lesser bands get the moniker "Other" rather than their own name. I would be worried about pb getting LESS exposure as they try to compete with these other highly established bands.

In addition, etree has a name for being a site for jambands, but pb seems to be increasingly moving towards breaking out of the stereotype and absorbing more influences and styles. STGers may well be just as receptive as etree-ers.

My other thought is, do we really want one all powerful site out there? It seems to me that if everything is hosted on etree, stg, along with some of the small sites like cotapers and bombsession, may get swallowed up.

Just my couple of euros worth. Whatever you decide, it won\'t affect me - I\'ll still search out the pb or breakfast or whatever they decide to call themselves.

i just think that if a bunch of us all seed it,people will pick it up, if not just for the reason that itll be a quick download.
