Day 5:
5-25-07 Highline Ballroom; New York, NY
This show was a the first time the Disco Biscuits played the Highline Ballroom. I personally love this place. Great sound, air conditioning, and beer service on the dance floor...and it\'s tiny. Due to size constrictions this ticket was in high demand. Anyway this show was incredibly tight. Short and sweet first and second set, but it had the feel of an old school biscuits show...something that you can\'t get from many East Coast shows these days with this band.
As good as the 1st and 2nd sets were, the Biscuits came out and played one of their best encores ever...at least in the Allen era. The Very Moon is one of my favorite songs and it segued flawlessly into the end of Mr. Don, a song not well known for its climatic ending, yet one (in my opinion) that rivals the end of Basis, Waves, or any other heavy hitter.
Encore: The Very Moon > Mr. Don*

aaah, fond memories. thanks again nn.
you know I\'m still yet to see a biscuts show other than a packed webster in hartford a few years ago that didn\'t impress me much. my tastes have changed a bit though, I want to catch a show next time they come around.
I loved being able to see 2 shows in one day at the tla a few days earlier!
I think what sold the moment for me was the emotion that was exhibited on stage and came through brilliantly in the music. Therapy, which leaves something to be desired in the lyrics department, has a deep personal connection with Brownstein (bass player). He even misses a line because he was so choked up on stage, but quickly refocuses to tie this piece together.
8-16-02 @ central park (http://www.sendspace.com/file/7zdn3l). good stuff.
10/4/02 is better than 10/5/02
both are better than 99.9% of all biscuit shows
the level of tightness and intensity of the jams is very rare and both shows are a very good listen every single second from start to finish whether your a newb or hardcore fan.
If dont to listen much bisco these might get you hooked but finding other shows as good as these will be difficult so you might lose interest quickly because many of their shows and jams flat out suck and will put you to sleep or make you cringe.
I loved them back in the day but I haver never been really enthrawled by much of the post sammy era stuff that I have seen or heard. I have not paid much attention to it or seen many shows the last 3 years or so though so I might be missing out. who knows.
i very vividly remember you leaning over to me, during this part, and saying something along the lines of "he knows it... he\'s officially made it! he knows he has made it as a musician!" or something along those lines... and like, i could have sworn i saw a tear in your eye too. it was a really moving experience for me, even as somewhat of a biscuits novice. so, well, thanks for that... its still crystal clear to me

Anyone noticed that Archive.org is weird now? Like when I try to download biscuits songs from a show, in the "vbr" format, it opens up Quicktime instead of downloading the song. I would download the whole show at once, but I don\'t have software to unzip zip files.
Any help appreciated, ulee want biscuits
can u put up that whole tla show?
I prefer the previous year\'s (05) Stone Pony show though.
If you have that can you post it?

Day 11:
Bringing it back: THe Sammy Years
The first set I will post was one of Sammy\'s Last. Camp Bisco IV Van Etten, NY (8/26/06). THis is the first set of the weekend and easily in my top 5 for best Biscuits sets I\'ve seen live. They played for almost 2 hours straight through with no stops.
I will note this isn\'t the best set for a Biscuits n00b. It\'s really far out there. Ulee can vouch for that.
Enjoy

If you are going to \'bring back the sammy years\' what are you doing posting his last show when you have the opportunity to throw some crazy fucking fantastic shit out. Particularly if you are choosing to present a show with songs that are basically not even played at all anymore (stone/waltz, acetobee :pout:). Yes, probably the best show I saw in 06 (not saying much)
I think Haymaker, Nights, Meatcamp, Trancemission rightfully deserve to make appearances in this thread. Or even some of the wild local shows at the Webster ..4/12, 11/28 or 11/29/03.
If I wasn\'t so busy I would dole out tons of this epicness. I\'ll get on it STAT

\'cause I feel like I wasted the past hour or so.
I really really tried.
I actually listened to the whole thing painful as it was at times.
Wow they are incredibly repetitive and boring.
I must say the shit I used to hear from them makes me think they used to be pretty fucking good and I should check some of that out again but this shit sucks for me.
Oh and I don\'t think I\'ll ever complain about The Breakfast\'s vocals again after hearing this caterwauling.

Let’s get things straight. The Disco Biscuits is not a jam band.
According to Jon Gutwillig, guitarist for the band, “super jam band” is the label they prefer. For those not in the know, the term “jam band” refers to bands that improvise and have “jam sessions” onstage.
“The jam bands are kind of like the old school dudes like Phish and Widespread Panic, The Allman Brothers – just anyone who isn’t really computer savvy in their musical way.”
Gutwillig describes super jam bands as a “new world of jam bands.” He says the bands are more electronic, and lists The Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9, as well as other up-and-coming artists as bands that have spearheaded the genre.
“People would say, ‘Are you a jam band?’ and we would say, ‘Well, maybe.’ And that just pisses everybody off,” Gutwillig said. “So what we had to do was reclassify the music business, just like they reclassified alternative rock from normal rock.”
The Biscuits still jam – just with the art of technology such as computers, and now, inspiration from drum and bass-influenced dubsteps. In fact, Gutwillig says the jam sessions are what set The Disco Biscuits apart from other bands.
“I feel that, during those improv sessions, that we’re really connecting with the audience,” he says. “We’ve been putting in a lot of new stuff and it sort of creates a new relationship with you and the audience.”
Though jam bands – and super jam bands – typically draw their influences from a multitude of genres, Gutwillig says he only listens to “sexy music.”
“I try to focus on sexy music. I don’t listen to nerdy music as much as I used to when I was a nerd,” he said.
When asked what he thinks “nerdy” music is, Gutwillig immediately responded with “Rush.”
“I think they’re the top of the list, I think they’re the universal poster boys for nerdy,” Gutwillig said. “Devo, you know, Devo’s really nerdy…would I ever listen to Devo on purpose? No.”
For those unsure of how to classify the nerdy from the sexy, Gutwillig has a system. Though be warned, the system is not quite fool-proof.
“The main indicator is, put a bunch of girls in a room and put the song on and see what they do,” said Gutwillig, who also mentioned that “11 out of 10” guys are not capable of being indicators for what’s sexy. “I think most [girls] have pretty intrinsic knowledge of what’s sexy and what’s not sexy…They can’t even tell you it; you can just kind of tell by the way they move.”
This theory can be easily tested by putting 10 girls in a room and turning on some music. However, the experiment is not perfect, as there are some road blocks.
“If you put 10 girls in a room and they are actually not on their cell phones…now we’re talking about something that’s just impossible. So you put 10 girls in a room and you eliminate the ones that are typing with their thumbs, basically, with the remaining ones, you would want all of them to be dancing.”
And that’s how you know it’s sexy.

"We\'re not a jam band like Phish we\'re a super jam band"
I\'m sorry but if you compare yourself to Phish and put the word "super" in front of yourself in comparison you\'re a real d-bag.
Sorry. Computers doesn\'t make it "super". Mastering your instruments so you don\'t need to lean on computers to fill out your repetitive sound makes it "super".
Seriously that\'s some cocky bullshit right there. "Electronic Jam-Pop" sounds more appropriate to me.
That the guy would even talk down on Phish like that and say they\'re "super" in comparison = complete loss of respect...
Thank the Lord for The Breakfast if this computerized techno "jam"-shit is the "new world of jam bands"!
glad to know you guys can have a sense of humor about this stuff

The above statement is False.
I loved getting to see PHish again and there is no experience like them out there, but Phish is PHish. They are safe. They really aren\'t going to push the boundaries farther than they already have. They seem less interested in evolving the sound and just content in playing music.
I am pretty sure that everyone who commented negatively about that interview has completely misinterpreted the interview. First of all I am sure this was all said tongue in cheek. Barber definitely was not talking shit about phish. The disco biscuits love phish Let us not forget that starting off they covered phish frequently. Let us also not forget that at the jammy\'s much of disco biscuits were in the "headcount allstars" playing maze, wilson, and run like an antelope. Before playing maze Brownstein says "when they asked me to do this I called a few of my firends to see if they were crazy enough to do this with me" which to me means crazy enough to attempt to play phish infront of phish(who I believe received the lifetime achievment award that night).
Wow they are incredibly repetitive and boring.

kind of a special day in disco biscuits history today. 10 years ago the band played a version of run like hell that may never be topped...by anybody. i hate to say things like this, but if you can listen to the run like hell from 10/22/99 (http://www.archive.org/details/db1999-10-22.shnf) and not enjoy it, then...well...the biscuits just aren\'t for you.
this is the jam that got me into this band seven years ago, and i never looked back (big thanks to NickNels)
I suggest listening to it straight through and probably under the influence of some drug or alcoholic beverage ;)
As far as the disco biscuits naming their sound, they pretty much coined trance-fusion as their sound

yeah i really got into the disco biscuits because of uncivilized area. their sound is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay different than that now. anyone remember encephelous crime? probably not.
why haven\'t they ever done a studio version of their best song: Story Of TheWorld?

Some more contemporary Biscuits for ya.
THis is set I from the most recent show they played in BKNY. I don\'t think this was the best show of the run, but I really enjoyed it at the show and listening back to it the other night. Brooklyn Bowl is a really sweet venue. Recently renovated, bowling lanes, good sound and reasonable drink prices...Swanky!
The Disco Biscuits 10-11-09; Brooklyn Bowl, BKNY
I: Intro, Loose Change, Pimp Blue Rikki > Mindless Dribble > Minions > King of the World > Mindless Dribble > King of the World
Loose Change and Pimp Blue Rikki are new songs. The set really starts to get going right at the start of the Dribble Segment. Minions might be my favorite new song right now.

The 4 day New England run was a blast. I\'ll try to get some more sets/shows/highlighs up as they become available.
Hilarious watching a guy in OB yesterday trying to give tickets away for last night\'s show at the 4th and B
I also heard if you did not have a ticket the girl at the box office would just point at someone offering free tickets on the street.

Why is that hilarious? Biscuits are not a West Coast band...they are there once or twice a year. They really don\'t have much of a following in San Diego. I imagine the secondary ticket market is terrible. If I was the manager and I had a half full room, I would absolutely let people in for a discounted or free ticket. At least they might spend some money at the bar.
But hey, thanks for the douchey comment about a band you have made it painfully clear you don\'t like!

moving my bisco thoughts out of the dead thread.
listening to 1-4-07.
first off, the moe. echoes pwns the db version. at least this one.
the > above the waves was decent... nothing to ground breaking.
the great abyss lost me and bored me. i skipped to cyclone which is pretty sexy. i am excited to hear it back > echoes.

So were you just scoping out a venue where a band you don\'t like was playing so you can make some arrogant comment about them?
I thought there was supposed to be a lot of fun stuff to do on the west coast, besides sippin\' haterade all day.

Philly jam band The Disco Biscuits surged in end-of-the-week voting to take The Freshmen win ahead of Kam Moye (props to Kam fans for their solid showing.) “You And I” will be added into on-air rotation on mtvU and will certainly introduce more people to the surprising ferocity of cute Japanese call girls.

none of their winter/spring tour dates have been "officially" announced. They were supposed to announce their tour this past weekend, but in typical Biscuits fashion are running late. I would expect to have details sometime in the next week or so...
i will be very disappointed if the biscuits don\'t play latenight at jazzfest 4/29. new england biscuits dates can eat a d. NOLA or nada!
Happy New Year!
As we turn the corner into 2010, we can’t help but look back on some great times in 2009 including our first headlining Red Rocks appearance, our debut performance on Mt. Fuji at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, our set at Rothbury and all of the amazing tour dates in between. And of course we wrapped it up in grand fashion with 5 amazing nights in Times Square in New York City. The energy in the Nokia was off the charts, which was fitting for the end of 2009, possibly the most supercharged year we have had all decade! We are excited to carry that momentum into 2010!
We are at home resting up for our trip out West to Colorado. These shows at the legendary Fox Theatre promise to be 4 incredible nights! Following the Fox, we are happy to announce the following tour dates in February, March and April.

Day 16:
Minions might be my favorite new song right now.

according to PT, it was "the worst show ever." i only listened to about 10 minutes because i had to watch LOST. it def started off pretty cool with nughuffer
ugh Philly night two was awful. After being a biscuits fan for years I finaly got the oppurtunity to see them, so me and three friends trek from mass to philly for what had to be the worst set list ever. They kept pumping out the new songs and nobody was digging it. Add to that like six guest vocalist who sucked and tons of on stage babbling, including a ton of Mighty boosh references. Great city, fun time, terrible show.

The Disco Biscuits’ performance at Montclair, NJ’s Wellmont Theater this Saturday has been postponed...
great review but holy shit i cannot believe what went down!
Thanks for your perspective Wolfman. any truth to the rumors that the show was canceled due to **** smoke backstage?
i heard the fire marshall was there and wasn\'t to happy about the ***** cloud but that could easily be bullshit. but "someone at the HOB just decided to shut it down cause bisco kids were spun" doesn\'t really add up to me.
I\'ve seen Bisco 16 times since 2003 now, and I always feel so out of place at their shows. Being that I\'m not Shady McShadeball and all... but I genuinely enjoy their music and don\'t wanna stop going!
They searched my wallet. I already had it out of my pocket. Dude took it in his hand and searched each individual credit card slot. Meanwhile other people were getting thorough foot-checks...guy would massage their entire shoe from tongue to toe. If he didn\'t like something, you had to take your shoes off and then he took a flashlight to the inside of your shoes.

That is ridiculous; and has nothing to do with weapons comb a la a hiphop show.

Sat day set was very good also. Sat night\'s lightning storm was the most intense that I\'ve ever witnessed. Stood outside the whole time holding onto canopy to prevent its escape into the skies. Camp Bisco was awesome; thanks for the sbd!
