this is fucking horseshit. the man is a fucking SAINT (and yes, i am VERY serious when i say that), and to take him out of power because he said something un-PC (he\'s said FAR worse things on the show, imo) which someone decided to make a big deal about is absolute fucking blasphemy.

absolutely ridiculous. the poor guy really didn\'t deserve to get the full boot. it\'s not like he pulled a fucking michael richards or something that extreme... i didn\'t realize this was going to go so far when i heard about it the other day. it\'s really a shame for the people who have been listening to him for years. my dad is beside himself lol.

I read a quote by Howard Stearn, which said Don Imus apologized like this was his first broadcasting job and that he should have said, Fuck You! It was a joke!

It is quite a debatable subject. I don\'t agree with him getting fired but since the advertiser started to pull from the show, they corporate monster had no other choice but fire him or lose money.

also, is there a link for the story of him getting booted from MSNBC?

All the good thing he\'s done, all the money he\'s raised for the kids with cancer, fallen hero\'s fund, unforently doesn\'t mean shit if you say one wrong thing.  He was probably Harold Ford Jr\'s. biggest media supporter.   I mean come on, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have said stuff just as bad about Jews.  Its ok for them, but Imus becomes a martyr.  Fuck that!

I never listened to him so I have nothing bad to say. However I noticed that cnn decided to finally **** out anna nicole for this story on the 5 minute loop so I guess it was important to some people.

Not me though,I don\'t listen to any one sided talk radio. Just Rush Limbaugh in the afternoon followed by collin on wtic, npr at night and bbc world feed in the early morning. All of which is 100% middle of the road non-offensive.

fucking false outrage PC bullshit. everyone wants something to be mad about.. something to make a big deal about.. rather than accept an apology, take away a man\'s livelihood because it\'s the only thing that will help you deal with your "outrage".

for once, could a boss grow a set of balls and stand up for their employee? can someone go to fucking bat for a guy that has all the money in the world and still goes to work every day because he does nothing but GOOD THINGS with that money for OTHER PEOPLE??

but no, msnbc thinks it\'s a good idea to get him off of the airwaves. and when do they decide to do this? the very day before imus goes on the air in the morning to kick off WFAN\'s 18th annual radiothon benefiting the Tomorrows Children\'s Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS and the Imus Ranch.

imus doesn\'t need the fucking money. he spends his days working for and going to bat for other people who DO. but all those charities are now losing out on the radiothon being nationally televised in the morning, because msnbc wants to protect people from the awful man who is imus.

all because people need something to be mad about, and this is all they could find.

want to know what don imus gets mad about?

don imus got mad about the death benefit for troops (http://guntotingliberal.com/archives/765) being only $12,000, and worked to get it raised to $500,000 when no one in congress wanted to do a damn thing about it.

don imus got mad about Joe Barton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Imus#Joe_Barton) preventing passage of the Combating Autism Act, which would authorize funds for autism research, and the fact that no one seems to care about the autism epidemic in america.

don imus got mad about little kids having to live their lives with cancer, and opened the imus ranch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imus_Ranch) to help show these kids that they can live a normal life and help give them confidence and self esteem.

don imus got mad about the complete lack of care given to our troops upon returning home from war, and helped build the Center for the Intrepid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_for_the_Intrepid) by raising over $10,000,000 through the fallen heroes fund (http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/) and personally contributing over $300,000.

but no one cares about petty things about that. all that matters is taking enormous offense to being the butt end of a bad joke, and taking no prisoners while getting your revenge.

not to mention that it would have been hilarious if fucking chris rock said it.

imus\' comments don\'t make me outraged - clueless, selfish, idiots do.

Ive always liked Imus and this was really a shock to hear. It is bullshit and you should hear these sensitive broads crying on NPR and what not because Imus insulted their \'team\' or their \'family\'. Imus also makes fun of a lot of people on a daily basis as well as himself. hope the people at msnbc take a huge loss for this..
They gave Sid a few chances but he obviously had more issues and they werent gona keep him around and run the risk..Imus is definatley a cynical but good man

I haven\'t really stayed up to par on this whole situation. I stopped paying attention when Sharpton got involved, because, frankly, I do not like the man, and feel someone needs to shut him up for good. Who the hell made him the almighty of the blacks (african americans, or whatever is PC these days)?

But anyway, wasn\'t MSNBC just simulcasting the radio show on television? He still has his radio show, no?

Sharpton and Jackson are hypocritical bigots who before they open their mouths about Imus should apologize to the Duke lacrosse players who they tried to accuse of raping a black girl and ruining their lives/reputation as well

Don Imus has been doing this type of humor for 30 years, both on the air and in live performances (which he stopped doing a while ago).  I have old album of his called "This Honky\'s Nuts" recorded in the 70\'s.  It is filled with profanity, drug references and all kinds of derogatory comments about Blacks, Jews, Hispanics, etc.  Why after all these years, has this become a big deal?  People need to lighten the fuck up.   It\'s not like he has just targeted the Blacks.  Everyone has been fair game.  And don\'t get me started on Jackson and Sharpton.  This is a travesty of freedom of speech.  If you don\'t like what\'s on TV or radio change the channel.  I want find out which advertisers were going to pull out so I can boycott those asswipes.

Staples Inc., Bigelow Tea Company, Procter & Gamble Co., General Motors and Sprint Nextel have stopped advertising on Imus\' morning show to protest his racially charged remarks about the women\'s basketball team. According to NPR\'s All Things Considered, GlaxoSmithKline and American Express have also pulled their ads from the show for the time being.

Censorship via intimidation by the P.C. fascists is a growing and alarming trend.  Even if Imus stated a fact about black people (example - 70% of black babies are born to single moms), he would still be castrated for "hate speech".

Shame on the advertisers for jumping on the bandwagon - neglecting that most Americans are likely not offended by Imus or his remarks.

The same people who are calling for his dismissal likely also claim to be champions for free speech - the protesting types who frequently open their big, fat, perverted mouths whenever/wherever they please and are always antagonizing others in public (those who choose not to listen to Imus can change the channel, whereas those targets who are subjected to the rants of radical public protests cannot do the same).

Going on Sharpton\'s show was a bad move that leveraged the campaign against him.

all sarcasm. Like I said, I\'ve never listened to him, so I have nothing bad to say. I know Dave\'s been listening to him for years, so he must be really pissed by this.

<-for free speech in all of it\'s horrible beauty. If you don\'t want to listen to the kkk when they come to town to march, protest by NOT GOING/NOT LISTENING, but they have the right to say their views on things same as any other group does. That\'s extreme, but the point is the same. If you don\'t like what he said, fine, but he has the right to say it, and you have the right to say he\'s wrong and explain why you think that, and I have the right to say you\'re both crazy and I don\'t want to listen to either of you, but I\'m not going to have the KGB come throw you in jail for it! That\'s why I love this country. :flag:

This has nothing to do with free speech or freedom of speech

Don Imus works for a company. They have every right to hire and fire who they please. I don\'t necessarily agree with their decision but this is the USA and the company has every right to look out for their bottom line and their stock holders as they should.

Don Imus is not being arrested for what he said and the government isn\'t the entity who fired and or dropped him.

If any one of you were in a corporate job and said something similar you would likely have to answer to HR if someone complained and very well could be terminated for it.

I think it is silly when Black America puts this kind of effort in to take down a white guy when what he said wasn\'t all that bad and many more hateful hurtful things are said about women of color everyday on radio and in music or TV etc. Many of the people doing it are also people of color so the hypocrisy runs deep.

Here is a great article about this whole mess

I listen to Imus on my way to work in the morning.  He rips everyone,
I can see why the Rutger\'s b-ball team would be offended, but it should not be blown out of proportion like this.
Imus does good for many people, he was the first to break the news about the veteran\'s hospitals unsuitable conditions.
Whenever race issue comes up- here comes Al and Jackson.  They should watch themselves, they are no saints.
a lot of people are bringing up Tawana Brawly(sp).

Did you hear that Jesse Jackson was going to pay for the stripper\'s college education.
The stripper that lied about the 3 Duke lacrosse players?

If Howard Stern said this, I wonder what would happen?

Did anyone catch snoop dogs response to this...I cannot believe he was given air time for a quote on msnbc last night.

I SUPPORT IMUS!!

good read:

Quote
Imus isn’t the real bad guy
Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture.
By JASON WHITLOCK
Columnist

Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.

You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.

You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.

Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.

The bigots win again.

While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos.

I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas.

It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.

Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.

It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.

I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack.

But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$.

I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed.

Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had.

Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage.

But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction.

In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive?

I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do?

When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.

No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.

Since his core audience has gone nowhere (all the outrage is from non-Imus radicals and race-baiters), hopefully he\'ll resurface on an independent network.  Though many here would probably despise Michael Savage (a very conservative radio host), he is independently syndicated to 360 stations nationwide.  I\'m sure Imus will land on his feet, though the crusade and pony show to oust him cannot be easy to digest.

from drudge.. what would be imus\' final wfan broadcast...

---

IMUS: \'WHEN WILL SHARPTON APOLOGIZE TO DUKE PLAYERS\'?
Thu Apr 12 2007 10:02:02 ET

Patrick Gavin with FISHBOWLDC reports on Imus\'s radio show this am...

Barely 12 hours after being fired from MSNBC...

6:12 AM: On Imus\' radio program (no longer simulcast on MSNBC) this morning, Chris Carlin, who covers sports for the program, discussed yesterday\'s dismissal of charges against the Duke lacrosse players.

(rough transcript)
DON IMUS: When will Al Sharpton be apologizing to them?

  (LAUGHTER)

CARLIN: I\'m unaware of such a press conference.

  IMUS: I\'ll be darned...[/B]
[/B]
[/B]
[/LIST]

UPDATE 6:28 AM: After a station break, Imus came back to discuss MSNBC\'s decision. He said he was recently chatted with "another big time broadcasting executive" who was "complaining that [MSNBC] had cancelled the simulcast twelve hours before we were getting ready to conduct this radio-thon for these three charities."

Imus: "My position on all of this is not whining about the hideously hypocritical coverage from the newspapers -- from everybody -- or the lack of support, say, from people like Harold Ford, Jr. who I had my life threatened over supporting and all these kind of things. It all began, and it doesn\'t make any difference -- like [James] Carville said -- stop talking about the context, it doesn\'t make any difference. If I hadn\'t have said it I wouldn\'t be here. So let\'s stop whining about it...You gotta stop complaining. I said a stupid, idiotic thing that desperately hurt these kids. I\'m going to apologize but we gotta move on."

UPDATE 7:37 am. IMUS: "The hypocrisy is absurd...Everybody knows what the deal is. And this is not over. This story does not end here."

Imus also gave a shout-out to Opie & Anthony (http://www.opieandanthony.com/), who support Imus on this issue.

UPDATE 7:57:

Imus says he spoke with MSNBC Senior VP Phil Griffin and said "some of the stuff that MSNBC has done this morning is frankly unethical and I\'ve asked them to stop doing it."

But also said, "I\'m not whining about the coverage. I\'m not whining about any aspect of this."

"I\'ve said 100 times: I said it and if I hadn\'t said it, we wouodn\'t be sitting here talking about it. And that\'s the bottom line."

Imus also said that losing television (via MSNBC) isn\'t as big as losing radio. "The big part of the program is radio. There\'s millions of people listening to the radio. At best a few hundred thousand are watching television."

On MSNBC\'s decision: "I understand the pressure they were under. I\'m not stupid."

UPDATE 8:15am: Speaking with an African-American woman, whose son had spent time at the Imus Ranch, Imus said, "And I want to say to you as an African-American woman, I\'m sorry for what I said...I want to apologize to all African-American women." The woman said, "Okay, I accept that."

UPDATE 8:19AM: Imus said that one of the "sad ironies of my stupidity" is that, at his ranch, "we sent six kids home because they couldn\'t stop calling girls bitches and hos."

UPDATE 8:21AM: "I want to thank Opie & Anthony...I love them and I love what they do. I know they offend people perhaps more than I do. They\'re good loyal guys...Even Howard [Stern] hasn\'t been horrible." (Although if you read this Stern show summary (http://www.marksfriggin.com/news.htm#wed), seems like Stern still has his claws out against his longtime nemesis.)

UPDATE 8:28AM:
Imus says that he\'s had "a lot of big people in the media" calling him "whining about the hypocrsity in the coverage. We understand that. You just turn on the cable channels or read the newspaper, trying to portray me as some vicious racist or whatever and there\'s not one person talking about the other things I\'ve done...There\'s a difference between premeditated murder and a gun going off...But you\'ve got to take your medicine. I\'m not whining about it."

"Don\'t tell me that context isn\'t important. Context is importnat in everything we do in our lives. But it\'s not an excuse."

UPDATE 8:38AM: Despite the controversy, Imus says contributions for The Tomorrows Children Fund and the Imus Ranch are "way, way up" compared to this time in the show last year, which is significant because "the money\'s more important this year than ever."

He added: "These bastards went after me. They got me. But they didn\'t catch me asleep."

UPDATE 8:44AM: MSNBC\'s Imus webpage (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036713/) is still up, with a statement and link to Imus\' charities.

UPDATE 8:45am: "One day you\'ve got a radio and tv show and one day you don\'t...Ordinarily we need to raise $3 million, this year we need to raise $100 million -- just in case (Laughter)."

UPDATE 8:57AM: Tells his friends, "Don\'t call me telling me that the coverage is unfair...If I hadn\'t said it, there\'d be no coverage...Shut up about it...I\'ve been dishing it out for a long time, and now it\'s my turn...I\'m not going to whine about it."

Imus also lets readers know that he\'s doing today\'s show in the MSNBC studio.

UPDATE 9:01AM: Charlie McCord says that they\'ve raised over $400,000.

UPDATE 9:10AM: On MSNBC:I understand their decision." "I appreciate them letting us use their studio this morning."

To "all of my friends in the media, out of the media: You can\'t whine about this...We wouldn\'t have been there if I hadn\'t said it."

He again called media coverage "outrageously hypocritical."

"Harold Ford, Jr. has been disgraceful in his lack of support. I endured death threats to endorse him...It\'s unfortunate that he has no courage."

"I\'m not surprised by any of this. I\'m not surprised at the hypocrisy of Al Sharpton, of Jesse Jackson or any of these people. But you can\'t whine about it."

"We can talk about all the good work that I\'ve done forever, but I still said that. I\'m not making any excuses. Everybody\'s got to stop whining and quit talking about it."

UPDATE 9:25AM: "I\'ve dished it out for a long time and now it\'s my time to take it. That\'s fine. Bring it on."

UPDATE 9:28AM: After one guest said "kick ass," then followed that with "can I say that?" Imus said, "I think today you can say anything."

UPDATE 9:37: "We\'ve never done this well before" (regarding the radiothon)

UPDATE 9:38: On meeting with the Rutgers basketball players: "I can\'t go through the rest of my life -- nor can they -- without us having this conversation and me telling them how I feel and, more importantly, them telling me how they feel."

another irony of this is I remember when Stern and Imus were both on WNBC radio.  I was young, but thinking that Imus understood how to be a safe shock-jock, and that Stern would never last.

Oops.  Stern - who is far far more over the edge - is hugely successful, and Imus has been put out to pasture.  Bizarre.

Anyone watch the Daily Show coverage of this?  Stewart pointed out how interesting it was that Imus\' comments were apparently so "unspeakable" (think \'Voldamort") that every media outlet in the world went out of their way to repeat them over, and over and over again.

The Gov of NJ apparently was on his way to the meeting between Imus and Rutgers BBall tema when he was in a near fatal car crash.

1010wins said he is breathing thru a tube and it will be months before he is able to return to work. I guess his femur tore through his leg and he lost tons of blood etc.

My boss just told me that he was not wearing a seatbelt. I guess he was in the front of the suburban with a state trooper as his driver and a assistant in the back. Assistant wearing seatbelt walked away. Trooper had to be air lifted

NEW YORK -- A member of the Rutgers women\'s basketball team sued Don Imus and CBS on Tuesday, claiming the radio personality\'s sexist and racist comments about the team damaged her reputation.

Kia Vaughn filed the lawsuit alleging defamation of character in state Supreme Court in the Bronx the same day Imus settled with CBS Radio in a deal that pre-empts his threatened $120 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against CBS.

Vaughn\'s lawsuit, believed to be the first by a player in the case, says Imus and his former co-host Bernard McGuirk, along with CBS Corp. and CBS Radio, are legally responsible for damage done to her character and reputation. There is no dollar amount listed in the suit.

Vaughn\'s attorney, Richard Ancowitz, said: "The full effect of the damage remains to be seen."

"This is about Kia Vaughn\'s good name," Ancowitz said. "She would do anything to return to her life as a student and respected basketball player -- a more simple life before Imus opened his mouth on April 4."

Imus referred to the basketball players as "nappy-headed hos" on his nationally syndicated radio program in April, becoming the target of heated protests led by the Rev. Al Sharpton. He was fired shortly after.

A spokeswoman for CBS Radio declined to comment.

:that:

She has pretty much earned that nickname with the lawsuit.  These personal injury/plaintiff/class action attorneys are disgusting leeches; they do not add any value to our economy and see every deep pocket as theirs for the taking.

You would too if you had to live in a 2 bedroom apartment with your mother and eight siblings, all of whom have different daddies, half who have not been seen since ma dukes got pregnant with their child. I mean, why not sue Imus and get that 4 Bedroom home in the suburbs?

Don Imus signs deal to return to radio
Thu Nov 1, 2007 7:57pm EDT

By Steve Gorman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Disgraced shock jock Don Imus, who was fired by CBS Radio six months ago in an uproar over an on-air racial slur he made, has signed a deal to return to radio on Dec. 3 with a new nationally syndicated morning show.

Imus will broadcast his show out of the AM-radio station WABC in New York, airing daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and be syndicated around the United States through ABC Radio Networks, which is owned by Citadel Broadcasting Corp, the company said on Thursday.

"We are ecstatic to bring Don Imus back to morning radio," WABC President and General Manager Steve Borneman said in a statement posted on the station\'s Web site.

"Don\'s unique brand of humor, knowledge of the issues and ability to attract big-name guests is unparalleled. He is rested, fired up and ready to do great radio," Borneman added.

The announcement said Imus would be returning to the airwaves with "his team," including his longtime newsman and sidekick Charles McCord. But there was no mention of whether Imus would be subject to any new limitations on his often-provocative and insulting commentary.

Imus, 67, whose CBS program blended locker-room humor with interviews of A-list politicians and other leading lights, had been widely reported to be close to a deal with Citadel-owned WABC for several weeks.

His old "Imus in the Morning" show was canceled in April after he referred to the mostly black Rutgers University women\'s basketball team as "nappy-headed hos" -- a phrase that combined an antiquated term for coarse, curly hair with a slang word for whore.

 SHARPTON URGES SAFEGUARDS

The original show was produced and broadcast by the CBS-owned WFAN radio station in New York and syndicated on some 60 stations nationally. The program also was simulcast on cable television\'s MSNBC.

CBS and MSNBC first suspended Imus for two weeks, but as calls for his dismissal grew, notably from New York civil rights leader Al Sharpton, MSNBC canceled his show, and CBS followed suit the next day.

At the time of his dismissal, it seemed Imus might be facing the end of his nearly 40-year-long radio career. The ex-Marine said he was sorry for his remarks and later met with members of the Rutgers team to apologize in person, but the controversy sparked a public debate about crude language and racial humor on the airwaves.

Sharpton issued a statement on Thursday urging Imus\' new employer to inform advertisers and others "how they intend to safeguard against Mr. Imus returning to his former vile and biased behavior."

A spokeswoman for the Rutgers women\'s basketball team declined comment on the upcoming return of Imus.

In August, the curmudgeonly radio personality and CBS settled their termination dispute in a deal reported to be worth $10 million to $20 million, clearing the way for him to seek a new broadcast outlet.

At the time he was fired, Imus was working under a five-year contract valued at $40 million.
