that show looks ser

glad to see the St. Pattys day (guiness) references in FFT.

One thing though, I don\'t get how See The Light could be inverted when it does not seque into another song. As far as I\'m concernced, an inverted song goes, >End,Beg>  I don\'t see how it could be any other way.

P.S.  gavin don\'t be down man, its for the greater good!

Wow!!! Best show i have seen since the first Sterling Stage!!! The first set came out smokin with the Birds drum roll and jammed into May fly-beauty-may fly but Puppetry stole the first set. One of the best I have heard! Tuneage rocked also!! Second set, I don\'t even know what to say. Just lots of dancing with really drunk Irish people and my head spinning for an hour and a half. Thanks to Ellis for the setlist. As much as it pains me to say this you should pick a few more of them!!!! Gladys was SO GOOD!!!!!! I will actually contribute without just ranting and raving. The local that sang before second set is a Utica native named Rainbow and my other contibution is the "Give it Away" by the chili peppers tease inbetween Tweezer and see the light opener of second set. Ron was playing the hell out of that very famous bass line. Thanks again to Zee and the Electric Company, The Breakfast, and their crew (Missed you Gavin see ya at the next one) for the best St. Patty\'s Day I have had in a very long time. Hope to see everybody at Sterling on Memorial Day Weekend!!!

Trey is a jedi but Tim is a wizard!!!

Shit was silly. They took it to amazing levels during the 2nd set.  Totally worth the spur of the moment 250+ mile drive.  Frankly>Slow Merge>Frankly was very fine.  Had some marvellous jams throughout the set especially nearing the segue from Tunage>Funky Bill\'s, christ it\'s been a while since I last saw that one.  I didn\'t know what the fuck was goin\' on with that little fuckin\' dude Rainbow or whoever he was woke up from the first set, got up from the couch, hopped up on stage and sang in a spanish/asian accent the Star Spangled Banner and "Godah Bress America," and then got down and went back to bed for the rest of the night.  I also thought it was funny when "Tweezer" started as I ordered my drinks and the bartender chick was like "REALLY!?!?" and then just started dancin\' like a damn fool.  I don\'t like saying "best ever" but it seems like STL (inverted or not) gets better every single time I see it, it was just that good though.  Gladys made me feel the same way, but the Superfly that has eluded me for so long could hide no longer from me and when they neared the end I don\'t think anyone wasn\'t jumping or bouncing or yelling or whatever.  Who\'d of thought of a Tweezer reprise, I mean what the fuck?!?  And then them actually answering that lame chant that I can\'t seem to escape by playing one more song after the encore was surprising, seeing the happiness and excitement all over their faces was fuckin great, I always like when the band gets the same feeling playing as we do watching.  And thanks to FieryBill for lighting a "fire" in my car.  Great fuckin\' time!

Why does it have to segue into another song as long as it\'s end>beginning?

show was a real treat super-jammy nite and well worth the 8hrs drive.    the people at the electric company were all super super kind which is always a bonus.  add in a double encore that ends at 2:14 am and a venue that doesnt start telling people to leave till around 2:50 ... and you know youre not in ct.  awesome crowd, not just size wise but people were really into it - how could they not be though.  lots of good old school 1st set, this show is a keeper.

What a great night.  more than 3x the attendance of the knitting factory show.  People were out to rage last night.......

I wasnt even aware of any of the phishy parts of the setlst, which made them extra special.  The segue from mayfly into sleeping beauty was seamless.  Frankly Slow Merge Sandwich was insane.  Definitely good to get a "true" slow merge.....  The jamming in the second set was second to none......From the tweezer jam through the See The Light, to Gladys and Food For Thought to Superfly, it was top shelf breakfast all the way.

I definitely didnt see the Tweezer reprise coming.  And the jam into WTF in the second encore was as funky as I have ever heard this band get.....

I definitely missed a lot of the show visually as I was in the green room updating the setlist and doing jello shots, but I heard it loud and clear.....

All in all a great night.....
Thanks to all that came out and hope to see you again soon...

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

so im now posting on monday for the first time cuz everyone in my house with a computer is gone and i just got to the library to say:

1)WHOOOOOOO!!!!

2)Overall attendance was good, .info prescence=meh.... I mean i probably only saw 10-15 people i knew (and god knows i am ridiculously popular)

3)First set was sandwhich-city, and i ate it up!! mm mm good!! i\'ve always said that i thought i liked slow merge better than regular(?) merge... and this show sealed the deal... that shit is griiiiimy!!

4)2nd set was super hot jams throughtout, as Stephengencs made clear... But the STL was where i\'m pretty sure i was gettin down harder than i ever have before - that shit was NUUUTS... people were freakin, for sure

5)regarding the food for thought, im pretty sure they are out of order and there was more of them... i know for sure that the last thought was : "Thought 5: BRILLIANT!!"... whether this means BRILLIANT was a thought twice, or whatever, i dont know... im sure the tapes will tell.....:idunno:

6)The phishyness was much fun, people obviously knew what was goin down, and absolutely lovin it- tweeprise =

7)booztravler-sweet get up as the guinness guys, those \'staches were classy.... you almost didnt even  look like ralph maccio

for ser tho... people should be gettin out and seein these guys, you never know how long it will last....:sadban:

Dwight, it was great to meet your dad.  What did he think of the Breakfast?

You were completely and totally Deeee-runk.  By far the winner of the St Paddy\'s day Hardcore Motherfucker of the Night award....How you even made it to the second encore, I will never know.....but you were definitely raging up front with the big ole Bass hat all night long.....

are you gonna make it to Albany next thursday?

There were 2 Encores?  Should\'ve taken a closer look at the setlist... oh man, yeah, working at a bar has it\'s blessings, but I don\'t know about Albany next Thursday, I work at 11am at the bar on Fridays, and somehow I doubt I\'ll be able to be up and on my way back home by 8:30 friday morning, 4/20 is around the bend though and will be a SER throwdown in the \'cuse...

Haven\'t really sat down and had a chance to talk with my dad to get his opinions on the show, he\'s been listening to Moxie since I bought him a copy at the last show in Utica in November...

Nice meeting you Chris and Brendan, good chillin with you Steve

So how bout a YEM opener in Albany?? Anybody who saw Phish shows in Albany knows that\'s the quintissential Phish Albany tune. That would be freakin sick...I say let\'s keep this Phish thing going! Or maybe a full BOAF? Whatever though, Phish tunes or not it\'s bound to be fun!

who gives a fuck what they play at this point?  they proved themselves to be a talented band, no matter what they play.  would you rather they played scarlet begonias, shakedown street and the other one?

or la woman, peace frogs, and roadhouse blues?

or i\'m the slime, echinda\'s arf and peaches in regalia?

if they play too much of one band, they\'re obviously gonna be typecasted as sounding too much like such and such band, at least according to the little less than casual listener.  so what if its GD, FZ, or *gasp* Phish?

it is one thing to pull out a phish cover once in a blue moon. it\'s another to play phish songs 2 weekends in a row. golgi should not be played as a regular cover, etc, etc.. if the band is going to be playing covers, play covers of songs that are not of bands so closely related in the music world (not to say that the breakfast is that much like phish, but they fall into the grouping of jambands for a lot of people). anyway, just my opinion...bite my head off now phish fans!!!

I believe that "sounds too much like phish" comment has expired.  That thought has been around for a long long time and since then, they have stopped playing phish until they played golgi last month.........now that they are a 3 piece and have matured as musicians, not to mention that phish has REALLY been gone for a few years now, i dont see the problem/issue anymore.......

they wont play any song if they dont think it sounds good.....
i dont see the problem if they want to bust out some sick phish tunes......golgi not so much a sick phish cover choice in my opinion though.....not at least until people actually start buying tickets to see the band before actually arriving to the show....

An ill-worded thread does not equal J. Upstate\'s comeoutance.  It does however show a greatening annoyance of the "is he gay or isn\'t he?" debate.  I\'ll let you guys in on a little secret:   I love muff-diving

expired?....then why did a member of moe. say it too me just last september? oh ...and by the way...they haven\'t worked together since before that. coincidence? you, me and others may not believe it but that stigma is far from expired IMHO despite the switch to the trio. the two criticisms that i hear the most are
1. terrible singers
2. sound too much like phish

well expired as far as i have heard of late........

honestly i dont think (especailly since jordan left) that they sound like phish at all.....  I mean what does that even mean?  doesnt every jamband sound like phish?  I would say moe. sounds more like phish than the breakfast ever have......

and since phish is such a huge band, still bigger than any other band in the scene in my opinon and they aren\'t even a band right now, i would take that as a compliment......

as for their singing, it keeps improving every show, every month, every year in my opinion, and maybe they wont ever have the vocal prowess that lifelong trained and studied singers have, but they have a lot of character in each of their voices and they are definitely improving as opposed to getting worse.....

It just feels like people are afraid to like this band......

frankly, if they\'re gonna semi-reularly play phish, play stash. play free. don\'t play yem (not without a keyboardist, at least!). keep golgi around for a crowd of n00bs/younguns/popped collar types that are gettin\' down, have some energy left and want a song they\'re familiar with. like a message in the bottle or in the flesh or something. the one thing no one denies is that this band has some serious fucking chops. some folks want more balls and less flash, some want more non-constantly raging tunes, some want less psychedelia, some want more psychedelia.... but no one thinks they need to go home and practice! so make that be the statement the band is making. every time we get on stage, we gonna be the best, most badass, mind numbing, awe-inspiring musicians ever. and everyone is gone know, respect and fucking fear us. yes we cover phish! we fucking nail antelope>stash>antelope then drop see the light>puppetry>grand scheme, what the fuck do you do?!!

ya, know?!

i\'m not very sure what that all has to do with anything, but please don\'t play antelope unless jill is there or i will never hear the end of it! ;)

That would be the attitude I would like to see the Breakfast bring to shows.

We are the Breakfast, this is what we do and we do it the way we like it.

covering phish is lame to begin with. Covering it as a three piece is even lamer. Phish was a four piece and none of thier tunes is going to sound good played by 3 people in a bar on a piece of shit sound system. The way they used to do yem was decent but thier version of golgi is crap and schould be scrapped forever. It was nice of them to end with tweeprise for ellis but if they continue to do that it all i have to say is pfffffffffffffff

I know i didnt hear it. It doesn\'t matter. It can\'t have sounded that epic unless you were really wasted. It\'s not even a song. It\'s a sick ending to a PHISH show.  For the breakfast to use it as a show ender (aside from ellis b-day request) would be sooo pfffffffffffffff .....

The Breakfast most defintely do whatever the fuck they want and really could give a fuck less what anyone else thinks.
It is very apparent in everything they do onstage and off.

It\'s actually called a freudian slip and using "macho" terms like muff diving does not make you appear straight.

Hope that helped.

how many people go to Phix shows.... if i remember correctly tB opened for them last year. the music of Phish isn\'t dead and busting out a tune or two every now and then is ok in my book. Did Zappa play in a 3 piece..... do the Breakfast nail Peaches.......
