Title: Does it make a difference???
Post by: Marcial on March 14, 2005, 04:17:44 pm
I have noticed that when you download a show from LMA using Smart FTP, along with the FLAC files that I download there are also wav files... is there any reduction in quality by downloading the wav files as opposed to FLAC & then converting them to wav files yourself?

Flac is a lossless file format. Just get the flacs and convert - damn sight smaller download!!

marcial -

can you give me an example of a show like this? just wanna check it out.. not sure there should be any .wav\'s on archive.org.. it might be a glitch in the matrix..

oops... my bad... looks like I was confused... I guess I meant mp3 is avaliable on LMA, not wav... I was confused because I saw the little symbol... are the wav and mp3 symbol supposed to be the same?

if you\'re using the same player to play both, they\'ll most likely be the same.. you can specify different icons for different file types in windows explorer (tools > folder options > file types).. i\'m pretty sure winamp has a bunch of different icons built in that you can choose from..

does anyone know how to cut gaps when burning already converted flac\'s to cd for listen?? its not a huge deal but it hurts when the boys are peaking and falling into a quick change and i get that 2 seconds of silence that kind of throws my car groove off.

gordo - you using nero?

if so, you need to select all the tracks (except track 1), right click, select \'properties\' and change \'pause\' from 2 to 0. it\'s a pain in the ass, and i don\'t think there\'s any way to default to 0, but nero\'s still the best..

is nero just another type of conversion program like flac frontend?

nope. the files stream one at a time, so there needs to be a gap in between each track. the only way around this would be streaming the entire show as one big long track, which wouldn\'t allow you to skip in between tracks..

i\'d rather have a full show untracked. i\'m a fan of LISTENING to my music

but the whole point of archive is to archive the flac files. the streaming files are just a bonus.

archive.org is a free service.. radio joe is simply something i\'ve integrated into this site to listen to shows off there. i ain\'t complaining. :)
