Wow... they keep pulling out what the people are dying to hear. I have heard hardly anything of the new songs (and nothing live, except for Rust I think, which I remember virtually nothing of) and haven\'t heard so many of the old ones for so long that I feel literally electric thinking about the next time I will see The Breakfast.

wow thats looks awesome...im so glad to see SOS back on there, i was just saying i really missed that ditty.

is "slow merge" a song unto itself, or does that mean merge was played in slow tempo?

slow tempo

great to see these songs making a come back.

i now have no doubt that sundance will make a reappearance at sterling stage or the boat cruise.

probably about as much as an OFF night as you can get.

had its moments, but that\'s about it.

this show had enormous potential, and didn\'t even come close to being able to scratch the surface, unfortunately.

HUGE things were planned with the original written setlist.

the mercury lounge employs a bunch of people who hate their jobs and lives.

and i am SO over NYC. *meh*

that said, tonight should be something special.

this setlist looks absolutely amazing on paper, but unfortunately was pretty disappointing last night. crowd energy was severely lacking.

BIG shout out to matty o for coming out early and supporting the other bands. much respect and appreciation.

you were missing the klout factor to kick it into over drive

surprising though with such a tight set list. was there sound/technical issues?

I\'m confused, how did they break up Space City Affair the past 2 nights? no segues into either portion.  just confusing because without notation (beg, mid, end) one would think they played the beginning each time.

I caught the second half of Mercury Landing. They were pretty good. I thought the lead guitar player was their weak point. His tone was out of place with a lot of the music and I thought his solos were uninspired. The facial contortions and bad dance moves also got tiresome. The band definitely has potential and the hometown crowd dug what they were doing and showed their support.

I was up front for the Breakfast show and enjoyed watching the new dynamics between the band members. There were some high moments when the band really came together and there were also some moments when things fell apart. Given time I think they can take this thing to another level.

Did anybody see the iguana wrestling?

well, the place wasn\'t going completely apeshit, but it was very nicely crowded and people were digging it.

the brew was so tight. heady dance party at times.

wounded buffalo theory always impresses people, and last night was no exception. they rallied a great crowd to open the night. matt said he really like them. and you can\'t go wrong when you throw in some theatrical shenanigans.

was this the same thing that happened the last time they played the mercury lounge dave?  back on 12/28/06 i believe they played there with teh brew.  suppossed to be a 2 set show but due to the low turnout(prolly 50-60 people) i believe they were told they were done at like 1am so the bar could close since it wasnt packed.   or something like that.  i attended both this and the mike rocklin/jim loughlin gig down the street.  if i rememebr correctly the breakfast even came on earlier than they were supposed to that night as well cuz myself and some friends walked in halfway thru their set expecting to have only missed one song.  was very dissapointed when stevie said they were halfway thru and were only playing one set due to the poor turnout.

as much as i hate missing breakfast shows(esp ones with queb) im very content with missing yet another 1-set breakfast show in NYC(i cant help but lol at the folks in the chase thread that thought i was clueless about them only playing one set).

looks like i good show on paper but im very sad to hear it wasnt that good dave.  i dont think its NYC persay, maybe just specific venues in nYC.  all the knitting factory shows kick ass.  just that mercury lounge shows seem to be meh.

Damn Mercury Lounge! I was buying 2 scotch/beers at a time to try to keep the booz flowing. I\'m really upset to hear Scheme as well as Cut My Hair Some Slack was dropped too. I had a great time though and didn\'t think the playing was that off. The energy and playing in Northampton was just too high to match.

Yeah, 100 minute/one set/no encore show is fairly short. We ended up bouncing around the bars until 3:40 or so afterwards. I thought this was the city that never sleeps?

On a side note, was Tim informed of their 2am stop time during the Drum solo? He disappeared for a few minutes during that part. If so, that\'s kind of weak to only give them a 20 minute heads up.

Hey, Ulee, why don\'t ya suggest this kind of stuff BEFORE the show is booked, so we can avoid all the awkwardness.

*On a sidenote, i listened to most of this show last night and it sounded pretty good to me... definitely a bit of crowd chatter, but with a few people on the Roll Call list, I would imagine this being a good time!

the reason they keep getting 1 set shows in nyc is b/c people (aka fans like you...) are "very content" with passing on gigs where the band needs everyone\'s support the most.

sorry cosmoechuck, i don\'t mean to single you out and pick on you in particular, but i\'m just upset that this gig could have been unbelievable (for both the band and the fans) and instead it was kind of a flop.

It seems that almost every time (well, recently) they play in NYC, they go on late.  12 or 12:30am.  And given a show like this that started hours earlier, people are tired, drunk, need to leave to catch a train, etc.  I\'m sure if they started earlier (when it\'s more convenient for the fans) the turnout would be much better.

I happened to enjoy the show.  Sure it could have been better.  Any show can be better.  If you consider it to be just a regular Breakfast show, it\'s good.  If you think it was supposed to have been an Epic show, then I can see where you\'d be disappointed.  But that\'s just me.

BTW, Dave sorry for talking your ear off after the show.  I had one too many drinks.  :chug:

being from albany (not biased towards either), i definitely would put the places ive had at new haven WAY over the places ive had in nyc.  However, ive probably only been to .2% of the pizza places in NYC, so theres probably ones that are way better than the ones ive been to.

yeah you sure got me pegged.  ive traveled 3+ hours for many many breakfast shows that ive been told are def gonna be 2 sets and turned out to only be one setters due to poor turnout or getting started late.  so now i am very careful about what shows i travel more than 45 min to an hour for.  i know which shows to pick and choose to go to now.  obviously this one wasnt one of them.  a 12pm start time in nyc is 95% of the time only gonna be a one set show.  esp at mercury lounge(if it was the knitt they might have possibly gone later if there was a decent crowd and i prolly woulda come out since i really like the knit).

Maybe it was just me but I felt like the band was very split personnel-wise between old and new for most of the show. The video above shows one of the moments that I felt was a very conscious effort on Tim\'s part to bridge that gap. Matt starts out looking terrified to touch Tim\'s guitar but warms to the idea and finally goes with it. I felt like this was a microcosm of what is still occurring within the band right now. Once the band gets more comfortable with the music and each other they will be unstoppable.

Play more shows, blow more minds. This is the directive.
