Title: Choke
Post by: Me! on April 24, 2008, 11:43:11 pm
Now I\'ve tried to start Chuck Palahniuk threads on here before with little reaction, but I can think of at least a couple people I know of who have read Choke.  So here goes......

Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club)is gonna be back in theaters, and I can\'t fuckin wait.  Choke has been in production for what seem like an eternity, but it will be in theaters on August 1st. :)  I know it\'s ages away, but that\'s just how excited I am about this.

Sam Rockwell plays Victor Mancinni, and it\'s directed by 1st time director Clark Greg.

This is def one of my favorite books from Chuck and easily his darkest and most twisted.

IMDB page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1024715/)
http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/

Also there\'s no release date yet but Invisible Monsters is also coming out at some point in 2008.  Word on Chuck\'s site is that Jessica Biel is supposed to play Daisy St. Patience.

From http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net-

Survivor - The Movie
Chuck Palahniuk’s second novel Survivor has long since been sitting in the halls of movie production limbo. Soon after Fight Club became a runaway cult hit, talk began of turning Survivor into a movie with such talent mentioned as Jerry Bruckheimer producing; starring names such as Jim Carrey, Kevin Spacey, and Madonna; even Trent Reznor of NIN tossed his hat into the circle and offered to score the entire film. The first tangible lead to take though was a screenplay by Jake Paltrow (Gwyneth’s little brother). With a draft that convinced the heads at 20th Century Fox, Paltrow set into motion to move the project forward. Things looked good and ready to take off. And then two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center.

In the wake of 9/11, something happened behind the scenes of the book industry and Hollywood, and suddenly anything with transgressive themes found a dusty shelf. Survivor, a book with the running storyline of a person hijacking and crashing a 747 into the Australian outback just didn’t sit right in this new, post-terrorist climate our society was living in. For years, Chuck would find himself answering a common question at almost every public reading he did: “What’s the status of the Survivor movie?”

Well, through many ups and downs.... names attached..... and options expired and renewed, it seems that director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is back on board.  In a recent interview, when asked about next projects, he was quoted as saying, "I’m working on the book Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk that I’m working on with a friend… It’s a great book. I love that book. So we’ve been working on that.".

I am also a big fan of his writing.  Can\'t wait for Snuff to come out next month!  I\'ll check out the movie, but there never as good as the book!

Looks like it got pushed back to September 26th.

In the end, \'Choke\' ends exactly the way I like a film to end.  I won\'t spoil it.  But it was a new ending that Chuck told me wasn\'t in the Sundance Film Festival cut. The moment captured on screen, and the song that is playing while the credits rolled, just completely won me over and made me feel very good about the film.  Here is a moving story of love, as only Chuck can write, and as Clark captured and nurtured brilliantly.  Even now, sitting here typing this, I\'m excited for Clark Gregg, and am eager for more Chuck Palahniuk fans to see this.  September 26th can\'t come soon enough.

I\'ve only seen a couple of his movies I think.  Joshua, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Strictly Business and Somebody to Love.  From what I\'ve seen, I think he will do a great job playing Victor.

Side note- I have 100 pages left to go in Rant and then I\'m gonna start on Snuff!  I love everything that Chuck does.  He can write no wrong in my book!

strippers reading the book, redband trailer (the first redband trailer I\'ve seen that truly deserves to be redband), and lots of other cool stuff.

comment on the redband trailer, you\'ve been warned.
Quote from: Cinemablend:
It’s filthy, it’s disgusting, it’s morally reprehensible, full of nudity, and the pulse pounding soundtrack seems to be singing about Satan. What would Jesus not do? Watch this stripper filled movie. On the other hand, it seems like it may be just the thing for me. Watch the trailer and hear Sam Rockwell proclaim: “If this movie doesn’t touch you, go ahead and touch yourself.” Just please, don’t do it when I’m around."

Have you read Snuff yet?  I haven\'t gotten around to it yet myself, if it\'s anything like Haunted or Stranger than Fiction I won\'t bother.

Rant had an excellent ending!  I am only 30 pages into Snuff. I\'ve been reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay as well.  I know if I just had some time to sit down and read I could do it in a day.  Really a pretty small book.  I\'m sure I\'ll get around to it sometime next week.

I just hit my indie theatre bookmark and CHOKE literally jumped off my screen and into my throat. Can\'t say I recall what I\'ve seen Rockwell in, but I know his face and not for any negative reason. I am a huge Anjelica Huston fan though. The write-up sounds solid.. Clever really.

Just watched the trailer. I\'ll definitely be seeing it soon.

Choke Comes to DVD February 17th
Movie Choke (2008) Posted By: PuppetMaster

CHOKE is coming to DVD Feb 17th and below you can checkout the specs. Based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club), Choke is a dark and wickedly funny joyride from the depths of sexual compulsion to the heights of the Second Coming!  Beside working at a colonial reenactment theme park and trying to hook up with everything on two legs, sex addict Victor Mancini courts the love and money of complete strangers via a demented con that might just kill him.  But first, Victor must save his dying, delusional mother (Angelica Houston) by seducing and impregnating her comely physician, a task easier said than done, in this gleefully twisted tale of dysfunction, salvation, love, and libido.

And another new book on the way named Pygmy-

The Manchurian Candidate meets South Park—Chuck Palahniuk\'s finest novel since the generation-defining Fight Club.

“Begins here first account of operative me, agent number 67 on arrival midwestern American airport greater _____ area. Flight _____. Date _____. Priority mission top success to complete. Code name: Operation Havoc.”

Thus speaks Pygmy, one of a handful of young adults from a totalitarian state sent to the United States, disguised as exchange students, to live with typical American families and blend in, all the while planning an unspecified act of massive terrorism. Palahniuk depicts Midwestern life through the eyes of this thoroughly indoctrinated little killer, who hates us with a passion, in this cunning double-edged satire of an American xenophobia that might, in fact, be completely justified. For Pygmy and his fellow operatives are cooking up something big, something truly awful, that will bring this big dumb country and its fat dumb inhabitants to their knees.

It\'s a comedy.

There was a Survivor movie in the works, then 9/11 happened, and well.......

It still may happen though

The last 3 or 4 of those tours Chuck has done I\'ve meant to get to but either something has happened or I can\'t find anyone to go with.  Maybe this time.

Tanyajo, you didn\'t like the movie at all?  I didn\'t love it, but it\'s hard to live up to that book.(or Fight Club for that matter)  The ending did bother me a little.

I just finished the movie, and i have to say, it was pretty damn good, every lead up in the beginning was great showing exactly what is on Victors mind. I think it was great balance of Chucks writing, contemporary acting, and a simple script. I am however very disappointed that they avoided the real ending entirely. I was hoping to see everyone come to the stone monument, but it ended with some casual mile high sex. The anal bead sketch in the interrogation room was f\'n hilarious. I don\'t think they went overboard with the nudity, in fact it was probably just enough. Angelica Houston was a great, but the girl who played Paige was a little bit of a turnoff. Anyone who wants to see it still i can throw my copy on my external for easy access from the internet.
