holy shit, what a show....

where to start??

as soon as tim started those opening chords to the price is right theme, i knew this was going to be a great night.

chris is awesome.  solid, solid bass player.  always dead on balls.  some really gellin\' moments with chris and tim....  i also think matt is such a fantastic addition to the breakfast.  his new song is really something great and it\'s a direction that i\'m excited to see the breakfast go in.  the jazz influence he brings to the table is really adding a great new dimension to the whole breakfast experience.  i\'m really excited about 08 for the breakfast.  after having seen this show, it really feels like everything is in place for the band to really take off.  i was really impressed with the vocals tonight too.  i can tell they\'re really rehearsing the vocals and it shows.  fun, encouraging and exciting show.  i left a happy camper.

oh yeah... best honeybutter ever.  and a MONSTER buquebus to boot...

the sound reminds me of if scarlet begonias and inner glimpse had a kid together. i like it, i believe its a tim song. i really like world needs us. its got a eppy 3ish intensity in the beginning and is catchy in a non-cornyass way.
queeb. in my opinion itwas the best one since matt has joined (ok, it at least gave the toads one a run for its money. at least.). tunage was ser. chris is the man. score,i love it. davepeck, you\'re better at guitar hero than that creepy 9 year old on youtube.

I dont know if theve ever played any Faith No More, but i was big into them back in the day, they are fuckin awesome and id love to hear anything by them.  I also think if they played "Cult of Personality" by Living color it would be fuckin insanity, theyd tear it up.

SO GLAD they played this...i cant wait to hera how it sounded

the sound is adrian\'s i think. no doubts about the quality. no, "i really need to hear it again" or "once they play it few more times.." or anything like that. it\'s good; watch out for it. matt\'s song sounded twice as good the second time round. matt playing the melodica was.. er... slightly arousing. chris is the new sliced bread, and is to the t tight on everything, including vocals on cop. the vocal show has been stepped up. i don\'t know what else to say, a song by song review would be too much gushing. cop was naaaasty and buquebus was just insane.
still on a high from the show. i can\'t imagine it getting any sweeter, but i have no doubt that it will. thanks to all the kind people i met last night for being, well, kind.

my favorite part of buquebus is the first jam. myfavorite part of the first jam is before they back in the tune, the bass goes "bum bum bum bum bum bum" at the end of every eighth bar, the peak of the jam. i like the queeb jam best when it is tranced the fuck out.  i was nervous when that jam started, praying that the chemistry would be there. fist off, the jam was so tranced out that biscuits kids started fainting all around. the heat was brought, and brought big. i was telling dustin "this is the test, does chris nail the \'bum bum bum bum bm bum\' or do i get blue balls?"  sho nuff, the boys did it big and climaxed hella proper. matt was even raging the synth shiz. i think queeb is back with a vengeance.

dude, very well said (nice ebonics towards the end).  same here with the trance thing...i used to LOVE buquebus back in the 04-early 06 era when they used to trance the hell out of it and it would sound like the new deal.  one of my favorite versions for this reason is the branstock 04 queeb.  it is so trancy/synthetic..so sick.  my favorite is still that one on youtube on that radio program from 06 though...not one beat is missed and adrian/tim/jordan are on fire together.  i wish it didnt cut off though at the end and that somewhere i could find the full version of it.

i cannot wait to hear this show, especailly chris singing on COP.

i\'m really not sure how to go about saying what i\'m about to say...

i think it\'s safe to say i had pretty mixed expectations going in. this was, after all, my first show with chris on bass, and while it was only his second show ever with the band, he\'s filling some pretty big shoes, and i wanted to be impressed. i felt weird on the way to the show. i was going to see a band that i\'ve seen over 300 times before, but the feeling was completely different and unfamiliar. it was odd.

arrived on the early side, and unfortunately heard about Cult Of Personality before the show. it gave me a nice jaw drop > perma-grin segue, but i really, REALLY would have liked to have been surprised by it. turns out that didn\'t matter much. more on that later.

the first set was very good. i thought TPIR was a fun way to start things off, and to ease in a little bit before getting down to business with Tunage. it was excellent, and chris immediately got my attention. Escher\'s was strong, and i *REALLY* like The World Needs Us. slightly reworked from the sully\'s version, and better, imo. i\'m really looking forward to see where they take this song in the future. it\'s got potential to be quite the jam vehicle. Honey Butter was actually really nice to hear after its short hiatus. i walked into an empty bathroom at the beginning of The VT Song, and when i was done, the bathroom was full and there was a line at the door. guess everyone\'s got pretty much the same idea when it comes to the VT Song. heh.

i was quite satisfied with the first set, and really didn\'t need anymore convincing. i thought it was VERY good - not great, but a nice sign of things to come. i apparently had no idea what i was in for in the second set.

i love the inverted STL as a set opener. really gets things moving right away, and this one certainly didn\'t disappoint. yet another treat with The Sound - a new original written by adrian. too early for me to form a solid opinion of it, but i enjoyed it. "fun" was the first word that came to mind at the show.

enter Buquebus. exit any shred of doubt i may have had coming into the night. unbelievable. every time i thought they were peaking, they went higher. adrian completely owned it. seeing it unfold with Tangie and Caitlin next to me was surreal. the look on my face said it all. i couldn\'t form words to describe it, but those two knew exactly what i was thinking. i wanted to cry. i actually felt bad for liking it as much as i did. even though i *know* i can\'t think this way, i couldn\'t help but feel like i was almost being disloyal to ron in a way by enjoying it so much, and i kind of had a tough time coping with that.

but i was sold.

the melodica solo was fun, and the collective "awwwwww" from the audience when the tube thingy fell out of it was a nice touch. it was actually a really nice intro for Rust - a song which took on a whole new meaning for me last night. "why does something bad have to be so good? why does something good have to be so bad?" that is *exactly* how i felt after that Buquebus. ron\'s exit from the band was so bad, but what i\'m watching is SO good. *sigh*

Cult Of Personality. i knew it was coming, but i swear that didn\'t change a damn thing for me. as soon as Tim played the opening riff, i was completely rocking the fuck out. my neck is not happy about it today, but it was SO worth it. fantastic singalong throughout the entire song, and they really nailed it. PERFECT cover for this band, and a GREAT closer. wow. thank you.

the only thing i disliked about the show was the Ain\'t Wasting Time No More to lead off the encore. two straight covers was a little weird, as was going from Living Colour to the Allmans. and not for nothing, but Ain\'t Wasting Time No More and Jessica are like Cat Scratch Fever and Smoke On The Water - THEY\'RE THE SAME FUCKING SONG!!! except the Allmans wrote the same song twice. heh. i can totally do without the tune though.

Score was a great way to end the show, and kicked off with an awesome bass solo. Chris definitely impressed the shit out of me. there\'s absolutely no way to tell that this was only his second show with the band. they\'ve been practicing like crazy, and it\'s paying off big time. they sound like they\'ve been playing together for years.

it was difficult for me to not think about Ron. i was thinking about him all night, even as great as everything was. i guess i just need to come to terms with the fact that this IS The Breakfast. i\'m sure that\'s something that will get easier with time, but it\'s just a bit fresh still right now. i am extremely confident that the future is VERY bright for this group, and that Chris DeAngelis was absolutely *THE* man for the job.

welcome aboard, Chris. thank you.

Wow, what can I say? Chris looks like he\'s been in this band since its inception. His playing and voice were both incredibly developed.  I\'m pretty tired right now, so I really don\'t feel like going into details. So a few highlights and notes.

Great meeting you finally: Jim Cobb, Lexington, SallyALLY, Postom.. i think that\'s it.

Buquebus was pure vibration.  Just a collossal wave of sonic bliss.

Rust has finally grown on me. The melodica intro reminded me of Donald Fagen. Classy for sure. Unfortunately the jam section sounds like one long derived and tweaked Inca Roads tease... It\'s absolute torture. Just play Inca Roads already.

At first I thought the Sound  sounded like moe.\'s Moth and The Wedge. Overall it\'s an incredibly funky song and has a killer jam akin to something Deadish, but with more finesse and distinction. Matt was a monster on the piano and Chris laid down some succinct Bootyesque bass lines ala Uncle Jam Wants You.

The World Needs Us is a winner. Thanks Matt....

And thanks Bfam, the energy was off the charts.... Here\'s to you guys !!!! Much love.

Scary night!!!  I mean I was getting hooked by the time Tim\'s solo in Tunage came along and it went from there straight up!!  "The Sound"..announced by Tim as an "Adrian Tune" was great and Matt\'s tune is destined to be one of those epic feel good and groove songs.  It\'s been a while since I\'ve been to a Breakfast show (two Toad\'s gigs back) and I was surprised (or not) at how much Matt has become part of the band.  He just blew me away Saturday.  As far as Chris....I met him upstairs before the show.  Nice guy, seems hard not to like him.  If you had to replace Ron (still tough to swallow) Chris is a great choice. Fantastic player who obviously has been working hard to make the transition smooth.

Said in an earlier post. BEST HONEY BUTTER EVER!!!!!  I AGREEEEEEEEEEEE:)

Overall it\'s very good.

THe jams are all big time.

thoroughly enjoyed hb for a change.

Chris was clearly meant to be.

The transition has been better than seamless.

Rust is definitely coming along and the melodica intro was a nice touch.

cop was as I expected. Must have been awesome live.

Tpalms was really on fire this show, which was nice to hear.

Been a awhile since I have heard him rip it up this hard.

i need to comment again on this show.

This is unbelievable...probably the first time since I began really following these guys that Ive REALLY had a great sense of a bright future.  There are many reasons for me saying this.  This is probably all around the tightest ive ever heard this band in a show from start to finish.  EVERYTHING is nailed.  Chris\'s bass playing is superb (listen to the line he plays in his quick queeb solo), matt is on fire and finally starting to dominate the synth sounds!! yeaaa, tim as always is on fire but i actually heard some new lines out of him at this show, and adrian is learning that sometimes playing a billion things in a fill in will throw off the synchrinization of the band (which used to be my only criticism of him.  this show he really is perfectly on tempo and is just amazing)...the band as a unit just put out an amazing sounding product this show.  And I hate to say this...but i think Chris might have the best voice in the band:shrug::shock2:(this is really really good news because i think they should start using him more on lead vocals...he had a  more trained-sounding voice vocally)

Im really really happy...i love this shit, im high on life and i cant stop listening to this show.

Thank you Gencs for giving me the motivation and the sunday ride home so I could make this show.  Glad I did.  Adrian\'s new tune is fuckin great.  I thought it had moments of kinda an island feel to it.  A little more (and I hate to say this) a little more jam bandy, than some of their other tunes.  and that\'s not a bad thing, it\'s a great tune.

I\'ve been seeing this band a long time, not as long as some, but it\'s been awhile since I\'ve had that oh shit these guys can really do "it", and just kinda getting the tinglies all over.  Not that I ever thought they couldn\'t but after just under 300 shows it becomes a little more everyday.  Anyway during soundcheck listening to The Sound I got that feeling like it was the first time I was seeing them.  and that was only the soundcheck, the show version was obviously much better.

Anyway, great show great times.  Good to see everyone.

And now to disapear from the internet for another two weeks.

:that:

I\'ve always been on the SG side of things too. He\'s so much grittier with that thicker tone.
