hands down my favorite post 7/7 show to date.
buquebus was definitely the stand-out highlight. Caitlin and Jordan\'s cameos were also much-welcomed additions to the show.
TLATGOE was also a monster, but what else is new?
my only complaint was that Good Things really brought things to a halt after a raging queeb.
...and the fact that you couldn\'t see the band for 73% of the show. ;)
-
It was a thick evening in 19th century London tonight....
Speechless, absolutely speechless. Best trio show to date.
-
well played, this was just a really good solid breakfast show... awesome
-

Caitlin has, once again, blown my mind... I can\'t wait to see Ken\'s video! Intense energy throughout the solo.
my only complaint was that Good Things really brought things to a halt after a raging queeb.
yeah, but it was a nice breather in the night & they played it well! (although, it woulda been nice to see Jordan up there for Good Things... seemed kinda empty w/out the keys)
...and the fact that you couldn\'t see the band for 73% of the show. ;)
Yeah - who the hell was on fog machine duty --- ellis?! ;)
-
Best Trio show yet. Finally got my Hard Luck Harry! It was the perfect song for the overall trancey/electronic theme of the night.
Can i make a request for a SBD of last night. I would like to get it out to as many people as possible, because I think this was really a show that could turn a lot of people onto the Breakfast. I\'m sure the tapers did a good job, but the accoustics at Toad\'s usually don\'t allow for a stellar recording, and always come out sounding a little muddy, regardless of who is taping. A SBD would really be great, and again, I think this would be a great show to have a high quality recording to get out to some new fans. THANKS
-
tim got all the fog! ron and adj got shafted. however the lights made up for it and were really flowing and on point with the jams and parts. nice job greg. drum solo was once again epic and was great when Caitlin started just jumping up and down smashing the symbol.. awesome stuff. as pitchy said..\'well, that was a hoot!\'
-
Thanks for "London circa 19th century" Stevie!!! Made taking pics a real knee slapper. ;)
Absolutely GREAT show! And yeah, Caitlin was having a blast up there. It was nice to see Jordo up there as well. Wish he could have sat in for an original though.

you have got to be kidding me. :sigh:
-
the band was on fire last night.
literally.
-
I hate the smell of that stuff to. And that damn hissing noise. hope it doesn\'t come out on the recording.
Did jordan really sit in, or it was just so foggy no one could tell but they heard keys and just assumed he was up there? :P
-

jordan definitely sat in, but the entire buquebus jam was prerecorded. the band had a serious game of yahtzee downstairs while the crowd raged to the smoke.
-
haha, sounds like a radiohead encore.

Looks like another great show AND Part II tonight in Asbury Park, ya\'ll have fun. You Lucky Bastards.

Rons Tom Sawyer antics were great.. still not use to him so out in front and takin the spotlight like that. and during Intension...forgetaboutit

I thought he was going to blow a vocal chord during Intension. It\'s great hearing him so in the zone.
From where I was standing I couldn\'t hear Jordan on the keys, but then again I could barely hear them at all during the show. Anyone else have that problem?
-
Last night was truly magnificent. Definitely top notch, many highlights, Puppetry\'s \'quebus like parts always make me want to hear it so needless to say I was glad to hear that too, Caitlin and Adrian, what can ya say? But my favorite moment was TLANTG>OE, it\'s one of those songs that I kinda forget about cuz I\'m used to just missing it, I think the last time I saw it I really didn\'t see it cuz it was separated with the Over Exposure first i believe. Ya see, I have this habit of just missing songs I REALLY wanna hear so I was glad I didn\'t miss this one, so... now I guess I have no choice but to go to The Saint...
-
im sorry, but i think the band sounds like garbage
since theyve gone 3-piece it just sounds like a big muddy (and really loud) wall of noise with no real texture or direction. you can barely hear timmy in the mix, all you hear is a loud swell in the wall of noise, followed by adrian hitting his drums really hard, and a bunch of drunk people puttin their hands up. timmy is this bands obvious strength, but he has been stretched too thin by having to fill in for two parts, and he no longer stands out as the guitar wizard that he is.
this band obviously needs some keys to give it some direction, and im not sure im going to go out of my way to see them anymore until they do (if they do). i had a sad realization last night that i dont really like their new sound at all, and the only feeling that these guys give me now is a pounding in my ear drums
-
wow...look at me...my first post and i\'ve been on here for about 2 years...anywho, the boys sounded great last night (it was my first time seeing them without jordan). there were some "muddy" sections that i noticed, but overall the performance was fantastic. you can definately hear each individual wailing out and they sound pretty together. I kinda wish timmy would just stick to playing the guitar though instead of trying to multi-task. and it was great seeing jordan up there with them last night...who knows, maybe in the future they\'ll all be back together.
happy easter to those who celebrate, and for those going to jersey: have a blast!!! and stay safe

Welcome Stefpav, glad to see you had a good time.
-
first of all,i think rory is smokin his shoes and socks...are u ser?????????
anyone who dosent think this is the best rock band in the northern hemisphere is completely clueless..holy shit i was blown outta the water once again last night..
from beginning to end a downright epic show.the chase opener spread the funk good and thick.folks were diggin on it.the puppetry was stellar.the buquebus was from outerspace.i remember gettin down somethin ugly with the untzuntzuntzuntz brothers(walshie/kirby).adrian just kept bumpin it up and bumpin it up.
i completely lost my voice during intension.hands down my favorite newer breakfast tune.
mvp of the night=SAVE FUCKING SPEARS.
dude was LAYING IT DOWN SOMETHIN FUNKY ALL NIGHT.
i love this band.i love the fam.i love toads place.
-
buquebus had a few good moments, but mostly noise
good things was good because you could actually hear the notes that were being played
other than that, the only reason i can "hear" the rest of the songs is because i already know how they are supposed to go
if i had never heard any breakfast songs before, they would all sound like the same sloppy noisefest
<<< feels frustrated
(i left for the 2nd set btw, which i never ever thought i would ever do, but here we are)
-
good turnout lastnight?
freddie, you should be in the van today on the way down to NJ!
-

Wow just Wow. I feel ya but garbage? Wow.
-
rory, any way u slice/dice it you=my boy.it saddens me to think that the band might have lost yet another fan.im hopin youll change your mind.dont give up hope.these guys are doin their best.
colin,tommorow=easter.me=the easter bunny.
the crowd last night was subpar, per usual.i thought around 4hundred but i think the count was 250.not good.
-
i think Tims vocals are really not doin it for me with songs like Puppetry. too much like he\'s trying to sing a ballroom style or jazz style or something. Not dark enough.
if you can actually say the band sounds like garbage and mean it though im not sure if its music for you because the sound comming out of the THREE of them is bigger than anything ive heard and tight as can be. the sound quality will always be something to work on but i think they are eons ahead of other bands and will be getting better. who would you rather see if youre all done with the Breakfast ,just out of curiosity? ..and adrian has always banged the schnot out of his drums and he keeps up the pace and grooves all night
-
Why does there always have to be some negative fuck? I swear to god, its fuckin\' ridiculous. I\'ve been seeing live music for like 15 years and have a really good ear for detail, and unless you were standing right next to the speaker or drums I can\'t see how it sounded muddy, whatever the fuck that means. If you are looking for slower paced Pychedelic Breakfast then listen to something old, the music has changed some ways for the better, some ways not, but to say it sounds like garbage is a little harsh, I\'m not a big fan of the chase without Jordan, and DocEllis my boy, you hit it on the head w/ Tim\'s vocals but whatever, the fuckin zones they get in during songs like puppetry and buquebus are fuckin great hot and TLATG>OE sounded as good as I\'ve heard it. But, hey we all have our muscial preferences and opinions so I guess I have to respect that. Garbage?
-
actually, i\'m not sure how i missed this last night, but listening back, i can hear that tim was teasing Only Happy When It Rains and Stupid Girl at several points in the show. i believe this is what rcoster was referring to..

I find myself getting lost amongst the music at shows alot of times, having it just kinda wash over me, but last night I was tuned in all night, the guys grabbed me and didn\'t let go, great show looking forward to tonight.

Caitlin\'s Dad here...Awesome show last night...the trance/techno grooves were great and overall the playing was amazing as usual....but even better. This is about my 8th Breakfast show (not a long history) I saw a few with keys and now the 3 piece. To me this was the best 3 piece show I\'ve been to. Ron and Adrian were ONE....and Tim was taking it to new places last night.
As far as GARABAGE.....where were you standing? I moved around a lot and there are spots in Toad\'s that sound better then others...actually that\'s true of all venues....so if you found a "dead" spot it\'s your own fault for not moving to a place better for you ears. And...can you really blame the band for the sound of the room??? The music was full of energy and it stayed that way all night.
Ellis..great job on lights.....Even though the smoke got a little heavy at times (Steve..lol) it fit the "rave" mood and theme of the night. Looking forward to Ken\'s DVD and /or the BT.
See you at a show soon.
Chris

/\\/\\/\\ Exactly. If you don\'t move around until you find your "sweet spot", well then it\'s just your own stupid fault.
Thanks to the guys for making it a GREAT 40th show for me. The Toad\'s shows are always special for me, and I\'m pretty vocal about my preference for the newer harder songs, so I really couldn\'t have asked for anything more.
No wait, that\'s not true. I would have liked to see better attendence. This is really directed at the new management. (I know he just started) But for the future a coordinated promotional effort announced on this board is highly necessary.
It\'s the Tower of Babel around here sometimes, and good intentions are lost by everyone moving in a different direction. A little official leadership of "Okay this is straight from the band- here\'s what we\'re gonna do, you with us or against us" would go a long way.
The music still rocks.

i say we castrate/murder rory rcoster!!!!!!

uhhhh... i hate the breakfast too. they make me do bad in work and school
-face

sorry to knock em so hard, cause i know that all 3 of them are ridiculous musicians and ive been diggin them for 2 and a half years now (30-35 shows or so)
that being said, i just cant get off to them the way things are right now. too often i find myself having to listen extra hard, sifting through the noise to hear whats goin on/what tim is actually playing
if tim had a talented keys player to help him make the background sound a little clearer, then two things would happen:
1- you would be able to hear what everyone is playing much more clearly
2- timmy could focus on his nasty geetar skills and play some mindblowing stuff
im sorry if the "garbage" part threw people off, but the past couple of shows ive been two have really frustrated me and last night/this morning it spilled over. i just feel like the problem and the solution are both blatantly obvious (KEYS) yet lots of people dont feel the same way
-
Last night made me realize why I see this band so much. It also cemented to me for the final time that they never need a keys player again. \'Queeb was definitely from "outerspace" and the fog was a great cover to puff-tough and really get out-there with my boy from Blubladan(Thanks Wah). Puppetry was very good, it was the first one in a while that really grabbed my attention . L&tG->OE was a MONSTER. It was just too bad that the crowd had thinned by then, alot of the energy was gone from the room.
The Albany show and Toad\'s have me so excited for this band again. I cannot wait for the PA run. Go Breakfast.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen: Without a doubt, the greatest band of all time. I knew when it started with the Jam> it was going to get ser mighty quick and boy did it!
-
i feel like it should be noted that ron spears vocals were especially top notch, and for the first time in a while i feel like he was in the drivers seat during many jams... specifically overexposure if i remember correctly....
ron spears = uberheady
-
he was definatley keepin me locked in during Hardluck.. it sounded great from the skybox area.
-
wish i coulda been there. it\'s been a while since i made the trek up to noo haven.
-
Hard Luck was my highlight, hands-down.
-
i had such a great time at this show. stellar performance by all band members!!
i liked the no-bullshit setlist as well: hard hitter followed by hard hitter and no wasting our time with new beginning crap to stink up the venue. it translated well into a very vibrant energy which overwhelmed the crowd!
and mr. greg ellis: awesome awesome job on the lights! it\'s obvious that you know toad\'s place well and i felt like you were online with the band all evening. nice work!!
after the stone church, this is definitely my second favorite trio show :)
-
One of my favorite things about the trio is the fact that with Tim sharing time between the guitar and keys, there are a little fewer notes and the jams are more cooperative and breathe a little more. There is more room for the others to take the lead and Ron and Ad are doing just that. What a great night that was.
Oh yeah and the \'Queeb was from another planet.
-
I had a really good time. In fact, it was so good, I reincarnated The Shark at the end of the night. It had been at least a good two years in between Shark sightings at Breakfast shows. You know it\'s a good show if you see The Shark.
-
I reincarnated The Shark
:holyshit: Sorry I missed it. I almost forgot about the shark. I probably would have joined in!
-
newb alert
whats the shark?
-
newb alert
whats the shark?
Something so prodigious I think it would melt your head down to your hips.
-
I missed the shark rebirth.....Come to think of it, I was so busy fogging the schnot outta toads, I missed just about everyone and everything that didn\'t happen on stage......
Regarding the fog, I thought it was pretty sick. I know the band hates fog and I will never ever be allowed to work the fog machine again, but I feel it was worth it and then some....
-
at least you know the fog machine works.
-
ha...it was toads fogger....that thing was like a fog howitzer...... I thought i was pretty good as to only fog the shit outta the stage when the band was going into ser jams....but whatever.....its fucking rock and roll......ps if both of toads fog fans were operational, there would have been less complaints..
-
The fog was key to get lifted during the sick jams...way to go Gencs.
-
The fog was key to get lifted during the sick jams...way to go Samson Simpson.
-
ya i dug it... i thought it was kinda cool when ron spears would just disappear (i hope i just typed that word right for fear of davepeck starting a thread about me) for a minute only to reveal himself in the middle of a seeeeer jam
-
This show really reinforced my belief The Breakfast needs to be seen in person or at least dvd.
Listening to the show on disc just does not give them justice. I thought HLH and OE were beyond SER, interesting jams and very raging.
However Buquebus, after reading reviews and seeing WUIAC in the middle I listened to that first and actually got bored with the tension and release jam before WUIAC.
Having been to Breakfast shows though I know being there I would have had the lights or at least friends around to get me past it.
It is becoming more clear to me as I like watching the trio dvds I do have but do not listen to new shows past one listen usually this band for me at least needs to be seen to fully appreciate them.

there is def. something about being there live that just doesn\'t translate on disk. but i think the same can be said about a lot of bands at least as far as non studio albums go? i mean not all the way though because i can (and often do) close my eyes and drift off at shows surrendering to the jam (sorry to those people i might have bumped into while swaying with my eyes closed after a couple beers).
that being said, Leith, you should come out east for Captain Nicks> Captain Nicks> Wheelhouse.... fly into T.F. Green

How would adding another instrument make the "backround noise" more clear? that makes absolutely no sence to me. I can undersatnd the argument that it would be better if Tim could focus on his guitar (all though i dont really agree w/ that sentiment), but your first point is just shenanies.

Totally^ I\'m glad there are folks around here who say what i think, because walsh\'s explination really hit it on the head for me.
As far as the show, wow. What a rager! Everyone has already pointed out the obvious highlights (puppetry, Queeb>wuiac>Queeb, HLH, L&tG>over.)
I wish people would come out and see these guys(WTF).
And Stevie, I am absolutely pro-fog.

I am pretty sure, now after reading a few posts, that you are in the minority regarding the fog machine......
As for a bubble machine, Robyn, this is rock and roll, lets save the bubble machine for The Wiggles or Raffi tour.
I hope you dont get too confused with your two jobs and start feeding jagermeister to your students and trying to teach english to the meatheads at the bars you work at :P

Actually Robyn a Bubble Machine would be sick if it were a professional one. 2 would be better.
I recall Kuroda creating a Bubble Wall behind Trey and band 2 years ago in Vegas and it absolutely worked to perfection. The refraction factor was insanely high. I had not seen anything like it before and have not seen anything like it since.
-
its funny this has come up, cause i have one at toads that me and jim day just fixed while we were working on my hazer, havent had a chance to use it yet cause we have to buy the fluid straight from highend, but when the time comes, it should be ser

next up lasers and holograms!!!
You know, they did buy a pretty elaborate rig for a laser type light show (for the dance parties of all things), and b/c I\'m normally stashed upstairs I don\'t know whether it still works.
Ellis- you should look into this. I bet you\'d have blast. BTW- nice job last fri.
-
i am 100% ANTI-Laser. It only works for pink floyd. The one we have at toads is in a terrible angle, never gets used and is a huge waste of money.
-
:point:Actually Robyn a Bubble Machine would be sick if it were a professional one. 2 would be better.
:jawdrop::lol: wait. did leith just agree with me?!
-
Wow, I am going to hate myself for this, but I have to agree with Leith...for some odd reason The Breakfast has never really translated well to disc for me. There really are only a handful of bands that I like to see live that I can really get into recordings of. Obviously there is no comparison experience wise, but there is just something that doesn\'t click for me as far as tB shows on disc.
That being said, Leith, since when do you have any friends at Breakfast shows;)
-
all these posts and not one mention of the darkstar tease in tom sawyer?! for shame!!
-
/\\/\\/\\ Thank you! I caught a tease I couldn\'t identify right away (encore=me drunk) and I asked people around me, one said Merge, the other said Zeppelin, (I guess I wasn\'t the only one drunk) and just didn\'t seem right. I completely forgot about it until you posted this.
Dark Star! I need to give this a listen now. Oh yeah. I didn\'t download it.
-
oh shit i totally forgot about that!
definitely heard it though and lots of people definitely missed it, as i was running around trying to find someone (more dead savvy than myself) to confirm it
-
Was just listening to this show last night...WOW!!!
Really can\'t ask for much more from a show and this probably contains my favorite segment ever:
Buquebus > Wake Up In A Coma > Buquebus
The buquebus segment and hardluck harry are out of this world. Great setlist and mix of songs. Sound quality on the recording is top notch too
