Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: origen on February 06, 2004, 02:42:07 pm
I am totally hyped about this southern tour.  The question is not whether I will attend a show, but how many shows I will attend. I am hoping for more Georgia dates and hopefully a metro ATL gig (just don\'t play at Jake\'s Toadhouse unless it is with P Groove).  Athens GA will be sick, and the Carolinas should be live, especially since you guys are touring with P Groove - GOOD MOVE!  Even though I am tired of seeing P Groove, because they got overexposed in ATL, and I will say right now THE BREAKFAST IS AN EXPONENTIALLY BETTER BAND - this will help your exposure.  I am also hoping for one or more Asheville dates.  I will do street team for any GA gig, + Asheville.

One more thing: I sincerely hope The Breakfast will get equal or near equal set time vs. P Groove during this tour.  I would hate to see The Breakfast be reduced to doing 60 minute opening sets.  Ideally, both bands should get to do two hours each night of the tour, or better yet ALTERNATING SETS.  Considering The Breakfast is by far the superior band (and this coming from a man who has seen both bands several times) They should not have to play second fiddle on this tour.  Anyway, I will look at your schedule and try to coordinate as many road trips as I can, and I will get in touch with your promo people as soon as I can figure out which shows I can take care of for you.  Also Bar Tabs/ Puff are on me for anyone who makes the trip to Georgia.

Also mad props for P Groove for helping you guys out down here.  I didn\'t want to sound critical of them but I\'ve seen them do the same setlist a million times (but it is a very good setlist and they are still a very good band).  For someone seeing P Groove for the first time, I am sure you will be very impressed.  They are cool as shit for helping you guys get in on the southeast.

depending on what days of the week they fall on, I will be at all shows within a 2-3 hour radius of Birmingham

yo Marcial, while your waiting for PB to head south you should check out the Seth Yacovone Band tonight...

not sure how far away you are from Huntsville, AL ?? but they are playing at Crossroads

what about some northern va PB gigs? maybe arlington, falls church??  caught SYB\'s show at the Funk Box in Baltimore a few months ago...that venue should be a fun time for PB!

Just checked the schedule... I will be at Huntsville & Athens fo\' shizzle.

Hopefully they will pick up an ATL weekend show & let\'s not forget BIRMINGHAM.... JOSH, LET\'S NOT FORGET BIRMINGHAM... or Tuscaloosa....

I\'m definitely doing Athens, Statesboro, and Charlotte - maybe Huntsville although I talked to Seth Yac at his ATL show and he said Huntsville was dead - I guess that\'s all the more reason a few of us should travel there to liven up the place.   But yeah PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE schedule an Atlanta show, or Asheville.  Even without P Groove I can promise to conjure up a decent crowd for ATL, especially if you do Brandyhouse or Smith\'s Olde Bar.  Try to get the Saturday afternoon gig at Smith\'s at 4:20 PM.  Seth Yac did this afternoon gig and got a good crowd, and because the 4:20 PM gig is hosted by a local radio DJ, YOU WILL GET RADIO AIRPLAY!!!!!!

It looks like the Southern Tour (at least the shows I can go to) is all with either Umphree\'s or PGroove... is PB opening all of these shows, or headlining, or swapping?  Anyone?

I was going to take a week off in March to go to Florida and see some PB along the way but have since changed my plans.  I found round trip airfare From Boston to San Francisco for only $158, and both flights are nonstop.  Too good of a deal to pass up.  I may try to coordinate a trip south on a future vacation week to relax and see some Staven Groove.

Yeah that Athens show with UM is going to be ridiculous.  At last count I will definitely be going to Athens, Charlotte, and Birmingham, and possibly Columbia.  I would do Huntsville but the tuesday night thing is going to mess me up.  But hey Marcial - how about that - a BIRMINGHAM GIG!!!  And it\'s with the Big Wu, another sick band. It should be a hell of a night of music.  The fact that PB is only opening on a lot of these gigs is a slight disadvantage, but most of the bands they\'re opening for are also pretty sick - If you\'re gonna travel it might as well be to see a killer twin bill.

I was planning to do Huntsville, but now I am going to skip it to go to Tuscaloosa instead... can really only do 1 weeknight show that week & T-town should bet much better because they are headlining & I\'ve heard that Huntsville is dead during the week.  Also planning to hit Athens, Charlotte, & B-ham...

Always a good decision, Marcial!  Tuscaloosa is the best city PB plays, and The Booth might be the best venue ever.  I would never miss a show there if I were unemployed.

Title: Tuscaloosa
Post by: origen on February 24, 2004, 10:02:14 am
I might just have to do Tuscaloosa - especially since PB is definitely headlining - weeknight be damned.  It\'s only 3 hours from Atlanta.  Is the Booth the same place that used to be called 4th & 23rd?  That was/is a sick venue.  As for Huntsville, let\'s just say that might be a good night to experiment with some new shit, or work out some new self-indulgent covers!
Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: Marcial on February 24, 2004, 12:35:39 pm
The Booth / 4th & 23rd are two different places.  Judging by the past few shows they have played there and the fact that this is one of the only headlining shows in the South (i think it may actually be THE only), I think it\'s a safe bet to say that the Tuscaloosa show will be one of the most ser of the tour... it will most definitely be worth the drive....
Title: Hell Yeah Atlanta Shows!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: origen on March 01, 2004, 09:47:20 am
3/20 at Smith\'s Olde Bar at 4:20 in the afternoon Dunham\'s in the Daytime!!!!!!  This means you guys will be on the radio for at least a full hour - and not some small time indie/college station - you will be on Atlanta\'s flagship classic rock station z93 - this is an awesome gig to get.  Also the 4/2 Friday gig at the Brandyhouse will ber ser - having Green Light Council open will definitely bring people in.  Plus the Brandyhouse features a very good walk up crowd - especially on a Friday night.  This will be a sick show and The Breakfast WILL BE HEADLINING.  I checked with the Green Light Council peeps and the word is this will be the Breakfst\'s gig. I will give you my personal guarantee of a packed house for both shows - have no fears these gigs will work out great.

Post by: Marcial on March 01, 2004, 03:31:15 pm
Whoa, hell yeah!  Two more shows I can make it to!  The 4/2 & 4/3 weekend is going to be my Batchelor Party.  Breakfast on Friday night... The Cheetah, Pink Pony, & a few other fine Atlanta establishments on Saturday night...
Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: origen on March 02, 2004, 10:35:07 am
And don\'t forget the 3/20 show at Smith\'s Olde Bar - it\'s in the afternoon so you could easily get out and back in the same day from Bama.  And if you\'re gonna hit the strip clubs don\'t forget the Oasis!

I am going to the 3/20 ATL day time show for sure... I may also try to make it to the show that night in Aiken,SC....

Post by: jocelyn on March 02, 2004, 12:02:55 pm
Marcial- You MUST come out to the Aiken show! I\'m going to be staying in Aiken for horseback riding stuff for two weeks in March. Obviously I have to go to a show that is in the same damn town that I\'m staying in. It would be great to see a familiar face there.
Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: Marcial on March 02, 2004, 12:23:13 pm
Wow, that\'s kinda crazy, huh?  Going on vacation to nowhere, SC, and catching a Breakfast show!!

I am 99% sure that I am going to make it to both... I can follow the band from ATL & would only have a 5 hour drive home on Sunday... If you can get yourself to ATL, I could give you a ride back to Aiken if you wanted to try & make both...

What kind of horses are you into?  My parents have had Tennesse Walkers & quarter horses for many years...
Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: jocelyn on March 02, 2004, 01:11:40 pm
Yeah the timing worked out perfectly. I\'m going to try to make a couple of shows, definitely Columbia, obviously Aiken, maybe some others.

That ATL show is a day show, yes? I actually have a competition that day, so it\'s pretty out of the question. To answer your question, I have Irish Sporthorses; I do three-day eventing. (cross country jumping, dressage, and stadium jumping). Used to show quarter horses when I was little.

Well I look forward to rockin it out Southern style. You have a place to stay in Aiken should you want one, as long as you don\'t mind sharing space with my fluffy fourlegged friend Sadie.

The following info for Marcial has been moved to this more appropriate thread so as to not piss off Sir Gencs:

I\'m staying at the Sleep Inn on rte 19 which is a 5 minute or so (10 mins max) drive away. It\'s one of the cheapest place around, and it\'s clean and not shady or anything. There\'s an Econolodge in Aiken which is cheaper but I have no idea where it is. There is also a Hampton Inn which is about the same distance away, but it\'s more expensive.

I have 2 beds in my hotel room (not sure why the hotel gave me 2...)... if you are bringing a large crew of people and don\'t want to pack everyone into 1 room, someone can stay in the extra bed in my room if they want to.

This will give you the info for the Sleep Inn and the Econolodge: http://www1.choicehotels.com/ires/en-us/html/Search

Hey Jocelyn,

Is Rt 19 the same as Monterey Drive?  That\'s the only Sleep Inn I can find in Aiken.... is your rate better than $58 / night?

Looks like there will most likely only be two of us.

Post by: jocelyn on March 16, 2004, 08:48:05 pm
up nooo Rte 19 is Chesterfield and also Whiskey Road; it might be technically outside of the city of Aiken but in the country of Aiken... although it is only 3 miles from the Brewery.

I believe 58 is about what I would be paying per night, but I talked them into an "extended stay" discount. (:

Only 2 of you? Marcial, rally the troops!

Joc, can you get me the phone number of your actual hotel... not the Sleep Inn 800 #) so that I can make sure I\'m at the right place... according to their site, the only Sleep Inn in Aiken is on Monterrey....

Hell Yeah - we\'re just 2 days away from the 3/20 shows - I\'ll caravan out to Aiken after the ATL show and probably try to make it back to ATL that same night, since I\'m used to staying up late.  I\'m thinking Aiken will be a ser show because 1. The Breakfast is headlining, not opening, and 2. there will be at least a small hardcore contingent of super devoted fans.
Realistically, I don\'t see the band going on in Aiken till at least 11:00, because these afternoon shows at Smith\'s in ATL typically last until about 7:00, even though it says 4-6 on jambase.  What happens is, the band goes on from about 4:20 - 5:10, and then Dunham, the radio dj who is hosting this event, talks for a while, has a raffle drawing, and lets a solo acoustic singer do one quick number.  The band usually comes back on at 5:30 or 5:45, and plays until maybe 6:45.  Maybe the band should talk to Dunham before the gig and tell him they\'re in a hurry to get to another gig in SC that same night, so the setbreak can be shorter than usual, although it might save 15 minutes.  Anyway, my point is, jambase says this will last from 4-6 while realistically I\'m saying it\'s gonna last till 7:00.  I\'ll be the dude in the bright green shirt so be sure to say wassup.

Yeah I will be smelling of buddah - but I expect a fairly good crowd at this afternoon show - Dunham has all kinds of street team people and e mailing lists, he pimps the shows during his drive time radio show, and the afternoon show phenomenon has been going on for a few months so word has spread.  However, Smith\'s Olde Bar is a small room so we\'re not talking about crowds in the hundreds - realistically there will be about 70-90 people, the perfect amount for such a venue.  All the people there are knowledgable about music and will know a sick band when they see one - the crowd is not your usual casual walk up crowd - they are all hardcore into the music scene. The small size of the room means excellent sound, and z-93, the radio station, will get a top quality recording, perhaps better than the average bootleg.  Remember that Smith\'s has an upstairs and a downstairs - THE MUSIC IS ALWAYS UPSTAIRS.   And don\'t bother showing up until about 4:00, because the bar doesn\'t even open until around then, and if you show up early you might just have to wait at the caribou coffee across the street. See ya\'ll there!

origen, you hitting up the Columbia or Aiken shows? If so, find me and introduce yourself! I am relatively short with brown scraggly looking hair. Title: 4/2 Brandyhouse ATL
Post by: origen on March 31, 2004, 01:14:03 pm
I\'m getting pumped up for this shit.  It may be one of the sickest shows of the tour because the Breakfast is headlining,  and the Brandyhouse can and will stay rocking until about 2:30 am.  The newsletter says the Breakfast will play from 12:00-2:00, but most bands play until 2:30, so please do it!! You could even play until about 3:00 - I know me and my crew and Marcial and his crew will be yellin for it.  If you\'re thinking about making the trip to this one all I can say is DO IT!!

How to find the Brandyhouse: take the Roswell road exit off 285 and head south towards the city for a few miles.  Bhouse is on the left in a shopping center  It is not very obvious so look out for a MCrackDonalds on the right - Bhouse is directly across the st. from micceedees.

Also the opening band, Green Light Council, is very VERY good.  They will go on at 10:30.  I strongly suggest getting there early enough to see at least part of their set.  A lot of GLC peeps are coming out for this.  GLC is a hard rocking mostly instrumental jamband - no blues bullshit or folk singing crap - they bring the energy harsh!
Title: Southern Tour!!!
Post by: Marcial on March 31, 2004, 02:42:20 pm
Hell yeah.  My & my crew will be there & ready to party!  We were talking about it last night & according to Tim, they are playing from 11:45 - 2:00.... BUT, I\'m sure they will play as long as they are allowed to... especially if the crowd is into it.  There has been alot of buzz around here concerning this show, and with the Dunham\'s radio show exposure they got last week, hopefully that will bring in even more people.

Hey Ross, do you know if they are selling advanced tix for this?  I am bringing about 20+ w/ me & want to make sure everyone can get in....

You should be good without advanced tickets.  The Brandyhouse can accomodate potentially a couple hundred people.  You will get in no problem, especially if you show up at 10:30-11:00.  A sellout would be great, but it is unrealistic at this point.   Even if you wait till 11:30 you should be good.  I\'m bringing a crew of 5 and GLC has a hardcore following of maybe 25-30 guaranteed peeps.  Not a huge following, but loyal fans.  Don\'t expect a Georgia Theatre like experience - this is a midsized venue - almost the ideal size really - perfect sound - good lighting - good overall set up in terms of comfortable seating + large dance floor.  Some of the hillbillies from out of town think the drinks are too expensive but they\'re about average for ATL. There is also a large restuarant section in front that could easily seat your entire party between sets.
