Title: Who knew an Air Supply tribute band could be so much fun?
Post by: skalnbyc on December 10, 2006, 11:58:02 pm
WARNING: :spam: Content

As I was left out of last night\'s sold out Biscuits show in S.F., I decided to take up a friend\'s offer to see Air Supply and Led Zeppelin tribute bands at a dive bar. Turned out to be one of the most fun-filled nights in a while.

In addition to playing the love songs of Air Supply with a punk edge, the band members really dazzled the crowd pretending they were playing at a stadium in the early 80\'s.  Some of the funniest band commentary and stage banter I have ever heard in my life was unfolding throughout the entire show. And the outfits, wigs and sunglasses were priceless.

I didn\'t realize I knew so many Air Supply songs prior to last night.  It was so much fun that I was inspired to jam at the front of the crowd and was singing along to all the madness (after initially jumping on a speaker at the back of the room).  At one point, one of the lead singers headed into the crowd and handed me the microphone, allowing for a random, 1-minute vocal solo during "Even The Nights are Better".  I think a friend may have a captured a video or photo of it.

When travelling through the crowd asking what people wanted for Christmas, I was first to respond: "I want to "Make Love out of Nothing at All", which happens to be an Air Supply song title.  Defintely elicited a roaring response from the room.

Imagine the guys from Jackass in a band; that was the degree of hilarity sustained at the show.  And the post-show Guns N Roses dance-a-thon by the jukebox kept the night alive at 2am.

I think I\'m officially on "Hair Supply" tour!  :holyshit:

I love Air Supply.  Maybe you could somehow arrange a Monistat and the Yeasties reunion tour with The Breakfast.  What a great show that would be.

Frank, the above reference is great!  However, I was the young boy (in the 80\'s) who kept rewinding the Airplane tape (on Beta!!) during the scene with the boobies shaking.

I found myself at another Hair Supply show over the weekend.  The soundguy looked like the perfect mix of Leith Duvall and Danny Bonaduce.  Naturally, I was calling Leithaduce all night long.

Sorry Chip.

I only have eyes for the lead singer clad in tight pants, a Bill Cosby sweater, sunglasses and an afro wig.

I\'m not just bumping this thread for my own amusement (well, maybe I am).

The sound/lights guy at the bar last night is seriously the perfect mix of .info\'s Leith and Danny Bonaduce.

Leithaduce

I will bring my camera next time I go and will post a picture.

Sidenote: I performed the Styx song "Come Sail Away" with a live karaoke band after Hair Supply\'s set.  Got quite the ovation from the crowd.  Guitar player: "wow, he\'s really good".  Bass player: "wow, he sounds like Dennis DeYoung".  For Dave Peck: I had the white sunglasses on and gave Max Headroom a shoutout from the stage.
