ok...so you hear the words ACOUSTIC SHOW and you figure a nice quiet night...mellow vibe, nice playing.............NOT.  By the end you\'re dancing and yelling for more!!!!  That\'s what happened at Jake\'s. The place was rocking!

Killer show tonight!  Hard to say a favorite tune...."Over Exposure"...and after a start of "Honey Butter" where I thought, "maybe this doesn\'t tranfer to acoustic", the guys proceeded to kill the song!!!  The vocal jam was amazing.

Next Sunday....Part three (and final) of the Acoustic Breakfast Trilogy.  Don\'t miss it.

Matt has not only brought awesome keys...his vocal improvisations are a great addition.

Set One: Solid Psygn jam and a bunch of numbers that I rarely get to hear.

Set Two: Matt tears it up in Dig and a quality Future Peek jam. But Over Exposure was where it was at. Felt like 20 minutes easy and traveled several paths. It\'s not easy to sell me on an acoustic version of songs whose jams often have so much fury, but they did it this evening with both Over Exposure and Psygn (and holy shit; I can\'t believe that the preceding post expressed a similar sentiment at almost the exact same minute).

And Honey Butter was just preposterous with Matt chanting the title like he was in the opera.

Great job by Adrian and Caitlin too.

Nice to see everyone on a fine Sunday.

During the "Honey Butter" vocal jam, Matt started singing the melody to Vivaldi\'s "Spring"

He\'s bringing the jazz and now classical.

jakes is in wallingford. Can you get to 84?

If so,
take I84W to exit 27, I691W. This is a short connector highway. take exit 10 for I91/rt15 and get in the center lane for rt15.
Take exit 64 Qunnipiac st (also the chevy/oakdale theater exit if you ever go)
Right off the exit, go around the bend and under the highway
Straight through 4 or 5 really quick lights, Bend left around the park to stay on quinnipiac
keep going until you cross rail road tracks
at the next light you\'re in the center of town, railroad station is on your left. (5 way intersection), go straight. Jakes is the first building on the right after the cemetary at the bottom of the hill.

Granted I\'ve been conspicuously absent from several monster shows, but I\'m saying it: Best Breakfast Show I\'ve Ever Attended

Opening jam > Coma was my highlight of the first set, though I\'d like to say that my Johnny Cash t-shirt had something to do with the spontaneous "Folsom Prison Blues".

And what wasn\'t the highlight of the second set?  Matt has taken Dig from cigarette break song to highlight, Caitlin and Adrian brought the house down, and Late>Over dominated.  Unless anybody has setlist knowledge to prove otherwise, The Vermont Song was an unplanned first encore in my book.  Honey Butter turned into the most insane Breakfast jam in recent memory.  BFam was representing as always.

Can\'t wait for Week 3.  Tim all but confirmed a Rufus, I\'m hoping for Tunage (with lofty dreams of a Scheme or Gladys).

the level of applause last night was tremendous. the place was going nuts.

i loved that caitlin\'s little sister was calling out for a \'honey butter\' encore. smart girl. ;)

the end of honey butter - where everyone was screaming all sorts of shit - was out of control. sounded like a bugged out acid trip!

good stuff. good times. great to see everyone - even you, chris piccirillo. ;)

until next time...

oof! That and peaches little "smile on my face" dance. Oh yea, and the vocal jam. And the crowd that never stopped screaming from the end of vermont until the start of honey butter.  and the band intros during the vocal jam. And that\'s just the encore. :wah:

Dave, I\'ve been thinking the same thing. Cori said it best last night, "They should do this every week."

my thoughts of the show..
walked in about as happy as a pig in shit.all good people everywhere.everyone wearing their sundays best smiles.i make the quick rounds and say whats up to some folks and notice a table,front/center.im like NIIIICE!!
seeing as we were starving,i grab a menu and the bistro steak sandwich on a bagette had my stomach rumblin like the rumble in the bronx.
i notice that matt has keys setup and i look across and lil wah/aliyah wah stretchin and gettin ready to bustout some of the sickest moves you guys have ever seen by 6/7 year olds...
things were great!
then i was told that if i wanted to stay,i could leave my kid in the other room, oustide in the cigarette section or lock her in the car(but leave the windows cracked/radio on)..
serious lack of communication.
thanks to spacey for callin me and counting 6 kids runnin around havin fun.what gives?

basically.
she told me we could leave the kids in the bar area as soon as you walk in(figure that one out),or the outside area, which is basically the smoking area.
i was joking about locking them in the car,but im almost positive that it went through her head to suggest it.

I thought I heard Matt tuning his guitar (which he never played) while playing Hotel Cali.

Also, I forgot about this until I listened to the recording while suffering at the gym, but during Tim\'s jam into Psygn, I had a strange feeling that they were about to play "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)".  Apparently Ron thought the same, as I saw him mouth the words "Kenny Rogers" to Adrian.  No complaints about Psygn, but a Kenny Rogers bustout would have been epic.

In regards to Jake\'s, the place sucks to SBC-like levels (though for different reasons).  But shows like the one yesterday will definitely keep me coming back.

Hey Freddie,  We were greeted at the door by a grim Tim...tellin us that you just left and that the girls couldn\'t stay...we just drove 45 minutes so I didn\'t want to turn around and head right back.  So being the good Dad that I\'m...I told the girls to hang in "Cancer Alley" and not breath...only kidding.   Actually they sat with Tangie just outside the door and the smokers were down the alley so it was cool.  Anyway...the music started and the girls moved to the doorway....about half way through the second song they were inside about 5 ft.  Little by little the kept moving up until they were at a table.  I kept waiting for the hammer to fall but it never did.  I don\'t know why the owner didn\'t kick us out but she didn\'t.  I\'m really sorry you missed the show. Caitlin comes to all the local shows but it\'s a rare occassion when my other two Breakfast nuts can hear the band.  Next week do what we did...start outside and then when the crowd gets thick...move on in.  Hopefully they (the owners) realized that it\'s not a big deal.  Actually CT. law says a guardian can bring in a kid to a bar but the bar can\'t serve the child. I told the bartender he should check the law.

Good luck next week...I am sooooo "F" ing bummed that we have a birthday party to attend next week.  Let me know how the show goes!!! Bring your child and at worst they\'ll have to sit on a stool by the hallway door.  It\'s still a great view of the show and then by the end you\'ll be in the center of everything.

Dave posted the show........check it out and of course Ken was there with the vid.

we can always have Gencs sneak one in while writing the set lists out for the band. Would be quite a sight to see them jamming and then look at the set list to see what the next tune is and have it be something they don\'t remember writing down.

the El n Gee sucks. they would be better off at the oasis pub in NL (as small as it is, thats where "headie" bands and fans chill, and its right on the bank st. strip) . they should look at getting a gig someplace in downtown mystic, lots of kids chillin round there at night.  I bet they could pull off an acoustic show at DPI or something, that place always has jazz bands and shit

I don\'t feel that I can give an accurate review of the show having showed up walked down the hall and said, "Folsom Prison?!?!"  GOD I\'m tired of that song, yeah, yeah I know you have to like it, but I do not wanna hear it all the time.  Sorry.  I\'m not angry or jaded trust me.  So, anyway, I will only review what I saw.  The jam that went into Simpleton was nice, and though Simpleton\'s a short little dittie, I always love to hear it.

Uncle Freddy?!?  I seriously cant remember the last time I saw it.  It was a perfect fit if you ask me.  I love Dig and what Matt has turned it into but, mix it up and don\'t play it every show.  OK, before all the red flags and alarms go off, I LOVE THE SONG, and yes practice make perfect but, let\'s try some others, uh like maybe, Doughboy, Lit, Garcian or something along those lines.   I\'ve never heard the Spy, and not being a huge Doors fan for me to immediately identify it as the Doors means to me anyway, that they must\'ve definitley done it serious justice.  The "Percussion Duel" seemed forced and awkward at first but turned out to be really great.

Having come from a wake for a 21 year old son of a co-worker, and then dinner, TLATG>Over Exposure gave me chills.  The good kind.  The song(s) were above and beyond anything that I could have ever expected, I knew it would be good, but seriously that good?  My god.  Nicely placed tease by the way.   Thanks to Pitchy for telling me the name, once again I knew it but didn\'t know the name.

I fuckin\' love Vermont Song and thought it was a really great way to end the set/show.  I can\'t remember if I\'ve ever seen a Honey Butter encore, not that it matters, needless to say, it was out of control and towards the end it was like nothing I can ever remember seeing or hearing them play before.  They really looked like they blew themselves away by how they just sat there and then walked around when it was over with those silly looks on their faces.  When nobody, band included, wants to leave, that\'s a really good thing...

I was impressed with how after TLATG>OE, Vermont, and Honey Butter, there may have been only like 45-50 something people there, but i swear it sounded and felt like there were a few hundred, if there were, maybe the windows would\'ve blown out....

It\'s a shame that they won\'t be playing there anymore, cuz it\'s GREAT.  Hopefully Jake\'s will loosen up a bit (i.e. the children situation, and the no backwards hats thing, don\'t even get me started on that one for obvious reasons) and realize how great this is for business and how much of a good time this place is for the people who\'ve been there for these past two shows.

...On to Albany!

Finally made it to the end of the show on my IPOD.  (It was a busy week and didn\'t have time to hear the entire thing)  All I have to say is ..."Honey Butter".......WOW!!!!!!

If you haven\'t heard it yet....do so.
