If I had to pick one cover to stick around in the repitoire (though hopefully a few will), it would definitely be "Working Man", with "Welcome to This World" as a close second.

Best show I\'ve ever seen (and unlike some, I don\'t say that about every show... just most of \'em).

I know I\'m taking a risk here, but I have mixed feelings about last night\'s show.  I think it\'s great that the boys have new covers to share, but seven of them in one show?  Come on...give me two or three, and then save some for another time.

I did quite enjoy the Broseph reference during Rufus (which I felt went really well), and I thought Psygn was awesome, but there were several  other times where I felt pitch was a problem, and things seemed unfocused (that general "melding of the minds" that I\'ve grown to love just wasn\'t there last night).

Ellis deserves a huge pat on the back for the lights though!  Way to go dude.  You helped make my night.

^^
I hear ya, if they started playing that many covers on the regular I\'d be a little concerned-- but they gotta do something a little different for the Freakout. I see where you\'re coming from though I do usually prefer the smaller venues and more spacey shows.

Having said that, I had a blast last night!: Save needs to wear those glasses all the time, I was cracking up every time I looked at him. Which was frequently.

Working Man was the best cover... Gladys Pimp was the standout for me though, Timmy Hendrix nailed the superfast funky part which is pretty much always my favorite few minutes of a Breakfast show if its done even half was well as it was last night :D

Good to see those I did, sorry to those I walked right by without showing some love, I was blind as a bat wearin those sunglasses indoors hahah....

YO have fun in SERacuse I\'ll see y\'all in Northampton next week---

and here you have the direct result of not announcing an official theme. there was a theme last night, but few people knew about it, and the rest were probably confused. i don\'t know what to call the theme, other than "3" - celebrating the power trio (note that all covers were of power trios, and the band was dressed as musicians from power trios)..

Face it you overly-critical butt-munches, last night\'s show was one for the ages, perfectly played, great selection of songs and covers, I was a little skeptical of the theme but it sold me after a few the covers were played, welocme to this world can only get better and that\'s scary, synchronicity was marvelous, stl was incredulous, yes, incredulous, and lithium was a great choice to end the show I really don\'t think that I saw anyone not singing it as loud as they could. the only song i wouldn\'t have missed if it wasn\'t played was we\'re an american band, which i refuse to comment on. can\'t wait to hear this one again, whew!!!

Cheryl and I saw the band last night for the first time since May. We had been away all summer and totally out of the loop. What a surprise to find out Jordon had left the band.
Jordon is a great player and brought allot to the table while in The Breakfast. Having said that, we truly believe that the Breakfast was meant to be a trio. Tim, Ron and Adrian have been playing together for over ten years and we think it takes ten years before you can really be called a band.
Last nights show has shown us that The Breakfast is ready to break out and go to the next level. Super tight, super sound super musicians. Ron\'s new set-up is very sweet, Ampeg is the only way to go in a power trio, thumped us all night long on 2. Adrian rocked as usual (he could play a set of 5 gal buckets and sound better than 99.9% of the drummers out there today). A slow motion camera would have trouble capturing his solo. Tim showed us his multi tasking talents last night rocking the keys and guitar at the same time, damn boy!!!!!!!!! Tim, you need a nice stack of Marshall\'s brother, another 100 watts should do the trick.

Long live the POWER TRIO!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the awesome tunes guy\'s,
we are so happy to be part of your
journey,
Bill & Cheryl

i had a great time last night. sick show all around. what a wonderful homecoming event!!! it was so nice to see everyone that i\'ve missed in the last month since the band left... Welcome To This World^^, Honey Butter, I Feel Free% > LDZ was fucking awesome-the cream cover was the best out of all of them in my opinion. definitely have to agree with abby on the broseph reference. always nice to hear a rufus. this wasn\'t the best show that i have seen, but it\'s up there. the band was on top of their shit (as usual) and sounded spectacular.

i think that if the issue with the "official theme" had been resolved (had been officially announced and promoted) things would have gone differently. there weren\'t enough people who knew what the theme was and it showed--not that i am one to talk because i went as wonder woman and also went as dorothy to last year\'s star wars theme.

not sure what the official head count was last night, but i am guessing somewhere around 250-300..? i could be very off. spacey + co. who did the promotion did a wonderful job. i still think that the management needed to have stepped it up and pushed things further. i haven\'t spent much time in new haven since the band went on tour, but have heard that there has been little to no promotion aside from what some die hard fans have been able to accomplish.

anyhoo, there weren\'t as many people in costume as i had hoped, but there were a few to be mentioned. the "chick magnet" could possibly be the funniest and one of the most annoying costumes of all if you were able to see walsh demonstrate how it works. britney spears and kevin federline, gavin as esteban, derickw as jesus, esther as banana. davepeck-i don\'t even know what to say about your costume. better luck next year  whoever the guy with long brown hair dressed as a girl was, please take a fucking shower and try not to punch people when you dance! girl who\'s costume that i can only describe as "starving for attention/posterchild for diseases" please get tested. guy in chicken mask-don\'t try to talk to girls, you are gross. one thing i hope that men can learn from this event is that you are not invincible with a mask on, so don\'t try to be.

thanks todd + robyn for the hospitality! esther and melissa, i enjoyed sleeping with you last night.

Synchronicity should be "Synchronicity part II". "Synchronicity" is a 3 minute song that opens the album, "Synchronicity part II" is the 5 minute song "something crawled from the slime of a dark scottish lake."

wups -drew beat me to it. I just verified off the disc though when posting, def Synchronicity part II.

Man....I wish I could have been there last night...the setlist looked SICK!!!! I was planning on going and my doctor told me I should just take it easy and see a show in a few weeks. {They found a blood clot in my leg about 2 weeks ago and he was worried that dancing (and there is no way I could be at a show and NOT dance) may cause it to break loose and travel to my lung..I havent been able to do anything for the past 2 weeks...I was in so much fucking pain!!!!}Fuck...that must have been fun last night and I had my ghostbuster costume (three at first...then they hired the fourth...but fuck it) ready to go....proton pack and all! Sorry I missed eveyone..glad people had fun....hope to see ya all at the pre-thanksgiving show in Hartford...peace, PJ

I thought there was a lot of people there.... probably in the top 5 biggest crowds I\'ve ever seen at PB/Breakfast shows. I mean, if that ain\'t enough people to make it worth getting up on stage and playing, I dunno.

I do know if there\'s a show at Toads and another show at a smaller venue that same weekend and both are equal traveling times, I will not be at Toads. I much prefer the vibe of a StoneChurch/IronHorse/Mezzanotte sized place. Plus seperating the 21+ doods from those under is wack.

i too was very entertained and cant agree more that these boys deserve to have Toads sold out, but the thing is there was no promotion to the people that dont look at the newspaper or read PLAY magazine, which is the high school/ underage kids.

Back when Kroop was around there were flyers all over the place in gas stations, stores and places kids would see them and the next generation would see them and pick em up and probably go.  Its frustrating, but i had a great time and was happy to see everyone. The album is unbelievable but there is no reason that Toads should be that dead for a local band that is that good.

Here is the official analysis by the King.  I was told that "May Fly Disarray" was coming by an anonymous source, but it was a good way to begin the show nonetheless.  I still maintain the question, "how was \'Working Man\' the second song of the first set?".  Psygn delivered as per usual, with "Angel" as a great choice for a Jimi cover (Timi Hendrix, anyone?).  I hadn\'t heard "Welcome to This World" since Fitzy and I were the only two to attend the grunge Diesel Experiment back in \'03.  "I Feel Free" was a decent choice for a Cream tune, though not the one that I would have picked, had I may druthers.  "Synchronicity II" took me out of the show a bit, as I did not identify it immediately.  My choice for a Nirvana tune was "Territorial Pissings" but, as the Pitch mentioned, it would have led to "torn ligaments".  I certainly can\'t complain about "Lithium".  I agree that I was expecting Eppy 3, but the new look "The Chase" was ser.

Please play "Working Man" as a set closer from now on.  It rocked.  Great to see the Fam in force.  I love you all.  But where are the newbs?  Let\'s get this fucking band some publicitiy! :drew:

I understand your frustration (I was hoping for a bigger crowd as well), but flyering can\'t be left up to the manager at this point.  Somebody\'s got to make sure that the gigs happen and that stuff like the newspaper articles, PLAY magazine, "Honey Butter" on Sirius Radio, and a plug on WPLR happen.  It may not feel like it to us, but this band is much bigger than when Kroop was in charge.  The grassroots is responsible for the flyering, which was done as far as I have heard.

Don\'t all beat yourself up on the crowd...it was ok.  Not as good as the 1000 Show, but ok.  For one thing the guestlist was huge, but the band wasn\'t bummed.

We had tons of press, and yes, did a lot of flyering...wich Josh actually coordinated.  But a night is a night, and that is what happened on this one.  there waere a lot of shows in town, including a big underage show at the space.

Unfortuneately as the band grows we have a bigger and bigger country to worry about.  The biggest impediment to getting stuff done on this gig was Toad\'s itself.  They seem unable to make decisions and execute simple tasks that in the past would be a given.  It wasn\'t until the middle of the week that we knew who was openning and in what order, and they didn\'t have discount tix, important for the kiddies, until way to later.

And it wasn\'t us...we haunt them every day.  Anyway....wasn\'t too bad and the merch was good.  Our feeling is that we need to kick this up to a higher level in the Northeast in genereal and that New Haven will hopefully follow.

Hice to see all you folks.  Thanks for your dupport and kind comments on the CD.  That\'s where our attention is right now.

show was awesome.  could be the best rufus I\'ve ever heard (best is worcester but i need to hear last nights again).  lights were best i\'ve seen yet.  decent cover selection, but played perfectly.  def. like the new version of the chase and STL was crazy.

got the new cd last night, very good.  glad to hear merch did good last night.  was hoping for a few more people there, it seemed to thin out after setbreak....maybe the band should go on alittle earlier??...just a thought.

good meeting you kate/rickey...hope the trip was worth it.  see everyone at the iron horse!!

many thanks to todd and robyn for the very warm and cozy hospitality, and holly and melissa for generously sharing that heady bed.

I was a little let down by the size of the crowd but had a great time with those that were there. It was great to meet kyndkate and RickyRoux. I woke up Friday with the Mayfly Disarray bass line going through my head. I was excited to hear it busted out from the get go. Psygn > Space City Affair > Angel > See The Light. sandwich was nice and the flawless jamming was great. I was happy with the choice of covers and I am totally down with them keeping "Welcome to this World" in regular rotation, it fits Ron\'s style and it seemed perfect to play.
The second set was all about "We\'re An American Band > Intension > Rufus > HDX > Synchronicity II > Taboo Or Not Taboot", great way to start the set with "We\'re An American Band > Intension", Intension is great in the #2 spot for any second set. I did not think I was going to hear Gladys but did and are happy with what I got. The second set highlight was all about the Lithium, me having been a huge "grunge-era" fan, relished in the moment and realized that they nailed this tune too.
Overall a good show, could have been better but no complaints for what I experienced.

I\'m just now getting to listening to the whole show again, and ho-lee-shit. Ronnie absolutely OWNED the pants off Welcome to this World and Honey Butter. I mean, I remember having a great time and thinking both of those were pretty much flawless, but listening to it again sober makes me wish I hadn\'t gotten so drunk at BAR before the show...

I used to do the same thing and not remember much of the shows. Now I save it for late night! But...thank the powers that be that we have recordings to re-live and piece together our memories!!

whatever ... when there\'s 6 people on the underage side there\'s more dancing room for the rest of us.  makes ya feel like you\'re back in high school.

seriously though,  there should be some sort of marketing strategy implemented for recruiting the young set at places like toads.  and for future security as well.  u know?

agreed but the question is how do you reach these kids..... how do they get their info on upcoming shows. we\'ll just have to go into a high school and pass out fliers, i sense getting arrested real quick. i was think during the show..... what else are these kids going to do. maybe make the shows cheaper for the kids...... i know i didn\'t have money when i was in high school.

I didn\'t do shows at all in high school bc I didn\'t have a car (youngest of 4, 3 cars on a friday night, you do the math).

I would look at younger fans like any new fans. you have to get them where they already are. If you can\'t go to the high school, flier the hippe/rock high school band shows. You know the ones, toads place on a tuesday, 50 bands you never heard of and only 3 people there that are not family relation. Also, get onto the online areas where the bigger bands are, like phantasy tour and jambands. Also, you could go out and be one of the asshole bands on myspace that is always out looking for fans.

just a few ideas.

i was planning on going to a couple EMOish shows in the next couple days and pass out fliers and cd\'s for the Century Lounge show in a couple weeks. i would think once they heard some of the music some of them might be into it. high school is all about being different right... or at least thats the way i dealt with it.

Kudos to Ken Rolfowitz(sp?) who video and audio taped the FF8.  I am watching it now and the sound and video quality are great for what it is.  It is even more than just one static shot as Ken moves and zooms the camera in order to catch all the action going down on stage.....
If you get a chance to pick up a copy of this, you really should, especially for all those who weren\'t there, its a good chance to get a look at what you missed.....

PS. Greg Ellis...FANTASTIC job on lights.....

i too was very entertained and cant agree more that these boys deserve to have Toads sold out, but the thing is there was no promotion to the people that dont look at the newspaper or read PLAY magazine, which is the high school/ underage kids.

Doc hit the nail on the head right there. Minors ..as a rule.. are not into reading the papers.
Problem #1 -  How do we get flyers into kids hands? (when the band is not here to do it?)

Yes we hit 2-3 shows in the 2 weeks prior but in years past.. the street level promo started months prior!!

We gotta get the kids re comitted to this band!!

Finally got around to listening to the covers and wow how hit or miss!

To me they do the same thing w/ Workin\' Man as they do w/ Scarlet Begonias.
Vocally ok but the jam is stellar.

Angel ahniiiice.  I could see hanging around it can pop up anywhere in a set and fit.

Welcome... WOW OK how abt a few more Primus covers? Fuckin\' nailed that shit hard!!!!!!!!!!

I Feel Free actually well done vocally which kinda surprised me. That was nice.

We\'re an American Band ehh Not bad but not great.

Synchronicity II if meh=my ears hurt, vocally this song was meh but they played the song pretty well.

Lithium I really really really hope they keep this song around. It is perfect for them. They nail it vocally and musically. It is so not a jamband song and to me is the reason it would be perfect to keep around. I am sure the place was outta control for this one.
