Heard rumblings about this.

Glad to see a new album is out.

Great to see the website has new material on it.

I may be mistaken but I think Jim Cobb might have mixed this album. Maybe he can lend some more insight since this website is the red headed bastard child of the The Breakfast scene.

so this is a live album, or studio?

cause that title could say live as in live music, or live as in to be living

If it was a new studio album they have done a great job of hiding the new songs.

Sure was... should of guessed something good would come out of this show when the entire Breakfast A/V club was there in full force!

Setlist: 2009-02-28 - The Field; Bridgeport, CT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I: jam > Cut Me Some Slack, jam > Tunage, Synergy, Sundance

II: jam > May Fly Disarray, Episode 3 (Awakening), Space City Affair > jam > Metropolis

E: Gladys Pimp And Kangaroos With Me*

I defintely remember there being some debates about the setlist after the show.  The last show they played in CT was at Sullys  in January and many of the songs were similair some people sounded relatively annoyerd by this:

Setlist: 2009-01-31 - Sully\'s; Hartford, CT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

: jam > May Fly Disarray, Doughboy, Space City Affair > jam* > Tunage**, jam > Sleeping Beauty > Synergy^

II: Episode 3 (Awakening), Peace Frog > Gladys Pimp And Kangaroos With Me > Honey Butter

E: Taboo Or Not Taboot

Either way... the show was still pretty damn good.  I remember a few times during the Field show, Jordan was gettin some feedback and he kept shooting looks of death at the sound guys. Hope whoever mastered the album was able to cover it up! I guess if they don\'t, it doesnt really matter though... it is Live As Is afterall.

They should do a Radiohead "pay what you feel this album deserves" kind of thing. I would pay at least $100 for this. Been a while since we\'ve had a new Breakfast album... Moxie came out in what, 2006?

even though my recording was a soundboard matrix the album wont sound anything like it.
it will be cool to compare a fully mixed album to the raw soundboard matrix.

I did mix this album.  I don\'t know how much I\'m supposed to say or not.  It is a live album.  It will include songs from 2-28-09.  5 songs, and it clocks in a hair under 70 minutes i think...  have to check.  I take it they haven\'t released a tracklist because they don\'t want to release a tracklist yet so i\'m afraid i\'ll have to keep my mouth shut there...

Hope this won\'t be download only, but if it has to be, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make it flac, not shitty mp3. Nothing worse than grooving along in the car at 80 and you get a

pause as it changes to the next track. (Or else, you have to edit every song to get rid of the silence.)

Still any new product is good - I hope someone is targetting all the usual places to make sure other folks are aware of it.

If you\'re listening to the CD in the car and you downloaded MP3s... burn it as an audio CD instead of a data CD, problem solved.

This may also be a feature of your particular CD player, as I\'ve never noticed a pause in between tracks

Not been about for a few days, but burning mp3s to CD as audio still puts the gaps in. Listen carefully and you will hear a split second dip. If you look at the track in a wav editor, you will see the gap the encoding process puts in.

Never had this problem but then again I\'ve been using Linux for like 8 or 9 years. Actually come to think of it I think there\'s some kind of gapless option that I used to see. These days programs like Brasero or K3B seem to compensate for this automatically.

I can definitely confirm that my mp3-burnt CD of Billy Breathes that I play in the car is totally gapless. Bliss > Billy Breathes with gaps would suck indeed :P

Solution to most computer problems: Ubuntu Linux

That\'s awesome to hear, my only gripes with Real Radio and Moxie Epoxy was that they sounded like they were mixed so flat. Like they made surround sound speakers sound like 1 speaker or something.

This sounds like a great team effort though I\'m definitely grabbin it tomorrow.

Yes mine timed out at 18.4 mb.

I\'ve noticed a few pretty show stopping problems with the new site. Look at the difference between it in Firefox 3.5 and Internet Explorer 8. At first I visited it in Firefox... as a web developer it\'s almost laughable to use Internet Explorer regularly except to test and verify cross-browser compatibility.

Problems in Firefox:
- No background image or Breakfast logo show at all. I was wondering why until I looked at the source code.
- Pages are in a perpetual state of "loading".

Problems all around:
- The server is slow as fuck whether it means loading pages or trying to download this album (although it looks like it\'s suddenly picked up speed I think it might actually make it this time!)

30%+ of the population and growing use Firefox as their default browser. My opinion is that the new site is actually beautiful, and a look at the source code proves whoever programmed is definitely no hack.

However it\'s absolutely urgent that these issues with Firefox get resolved. I assume The Breakfast paid a pretty penny for this site, but IMO sites that aren\'t standards-compliant or at least close enough to work equally well in IE / Firefox / Chrome / Safari etc are not complete.

The Breakfast: Please demand of your programmer to fix these issues. If you were dealing with my company I would consider this my highest priority to fix right away.

If they are unable to fix this or if it doesn\'t get fixed soon, no offense but this is a little embarrasing for a web developer to see. The site is absolutely fantastic otherwise (in Internet Explorer). But yeah I could hack this source code and fix this for you, no charge of course.

Also your server is slow as hell, I would host your site for free on a wicked fast server and maintain regular updates if that\'s something you\'re interested in. You certainly have a great web site in the works but it needs to be fixed first of all, and there\'s ways I can easily think of to get more community involvement beyond simple links to Facebook / Myspace etc. How about full integration with thebreakfast.info forums for starters?

Seriously hand it over to me it\'s damn good but it\'s broken and I\'ll make it better and you\'ll never have to worry about it not being up to date. You guys should have hit me up in the 1st place I would have done this start to finish on the house. I will increase community involvement, make you more money, and get you more traffic. And use secure custom shopping cart software instead of relying on Paypal (Paypal are bastards). You read that part about me making you more money / more traffic / more community? That\'s my specialty yo. Take this as a serious offer, as it\'s a way I can really use my talents to help you guys out.[/i]

Ok my download\'s finished.... back in a bit.

In the meantime if anyone is unable to download the album due to time outs or other bugs I have it uploaded to my server. I\'m in no way going to link it publicly or give it away for free... but if you paid for it and can\'t get it, hit me up.

yea kiiid this shits ser biz. And by that I mean the new album and also this web stuff.

Good to see the Firefox / Chrome header and background image is now showing, a quick and easy fix indeed. They also fixed the javascript error that was causing "perpetually loading" phenomena. Props for quick response to these issues!

The server speed issues seem to be related to the fact that the site is actively being developed as I write this and during the times when many of you tried to download the album and had problems. Not that live site updates should slow things down for more than literally 1-2 seconds but apparently they have a different method to their madness.

I\'m not gonna front. This site is straight up ballin\' compared to what they had in the past. But from a marketing / community / money making standpoint I\'m seeing a whole lot of unrealized potential.

With a website like that and a few code tweaks, there\'s so many ways to get the community involved, sell way more shit, and straight up make it rain dollar bills for the band.

No reason why the new site shouldn\'t be fully integrated with .info too. New visitors should be welcomed as family, and the new site should be the portal through which the forums are entered. After that is created our beloved http://www.thebreakfast.info should actually have a redirect script on it to go directly to http://www.thebreakfast.org where people can log in. Why? It would greatly enhance the relevance of the main site, and get more people to become active on the forums! Increased traffic and relevance = increased activity = increased opportunity for promotion and sales.

The site is beautiful, glad they are using XHTML Transitional and apparently actively fixing the known bugs. (why anyone would upload a buggy page without testing it on several browsers first....).

Aesthetically its awesome and code-wise it\'s modern and allows plenty of room to extend the lifespan and further improve the site. However as it is, it\'s a great looking site and pretty useful. What it\'s lacking is serious marketing and community involvement .... if a beautiful web site shits in the woods, does anybody eat it? Catch my drift.

Also The Breakfast should totally own http://www.thebreakfast.COM .... a quick look at the whois lookup reveals this douchebag domain name consolidator in Belize bought the domain (and probably thousands of others) just to put ads up there and probably try to sell it. Typical. He won\'t even say his real name because this business is such weak sauce:

Look at his site www.cherished.com  (http://www.cherished.com/). I fucking hate these people. Solution? First, see how much he wants for it and how dick exactly he\'s trying to be. If he\'s unreasonable about it that\'s when you move on to certified letters, threats of lawsuit under your copyright, etc. What he\'s doing is legal but many companies have won battles with these fucks under copyright laws. Almost always these guys don\'t wanna do battle in court (and frankly neither do we) and usually they will either concede to a reasonable offer under this kind of pressure. This anonymous douche in Belize is probably a huge hoo haa and would give it up if he felt we weren\'t fucking around.

The fact is *everybody* types in ".com" .... or if they just type in "thebreakfast" it will go directly to ".com" ... missing out on the 1st timer domain name guessers (who are actually guessing the most logical place for it to be) is a big miss.

So... let him get away with it and lose out? Or maybe see if he\'ll let it go cheap willingly? <--- this should *at least* be done. If not, it\'s up to the band if they care about owning what should be theirs. I\'d be glad to personally threaten litigation under the name of my (ok not "my" but I\'ve got serious pull around here and I\'m basically #1 in line to run the company when the time comes...) successful advertising firm.

We don\'t fuck around when it comes to this, no reason The Breakfast should take it lying down either.

_______
From the US Department of State:

"Belize has fulfilled its obligation under the World Trade Organization (WTO) to implement the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (the TRIPS Agreement). The Belize Intellectual Property Office (BELIPO) was established to administer intellectual property rights (IPR) laws, which include copyrights, industrial designs, patents, trademarks, protection of new plant varieties, and protection of layout - designs (topographies) of integrated circuits.

Belize is a party to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs. However, Belize has ratified neither the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) nor the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT).

Stores throughout the country continue to sell and rent pirated CDs, DVDs, and tapes. Local television stations and cable companies also continue to pirate American television network and cable channel programming with impunity.

Several importers, primarily those doing business in the Corozal Commercial Free Zone, continue to import and sell counterfeit merchandise, such as cigarettes and clothing. Under Belize\'s Copyright and Trademarks Laws, the onus to institute legal action against violators of intellectual property rights lies upon the holder of the copyright and trademark, and not upon local law enforcement officials."

So yeah basically the best course of action in this scenario is to act real fuckin serious and take the incremental steps I described above. Not quite as easy as if he was in the USA but he\'s definitely not immune. No reason at all why we shouldn\'t see what his offer is and if it\'s bullshit then it\'s time to flex a little muscle.

I have offered to host .org etc for free for years. Just as I do for .info. Not sure why they never took me up on it.

As for .com last time I looked in to it it was still owned by the kid who originally was the webmaster (Grason ??) who the guys had a falling out of. Not sure if it is just parked with the registrar or it came up for renewal recently. I had been watching ot a while ago but haven\'t thought about it in a while.

I work at an ISP so if any of you are looking for webhosting wetc let me know. FreeBSD or winblows if you need it

So they put all this work in to making an album had it mixed by Jim to release it in a lossy format.

Strange

Any chance a high quality download will be made available ?

Considering it would have taken all but 2 minutes to render a flac option

Breakfast has its choice of FreeBSD, Windows Server or our fresh Mint Linux box ... good things happen when Breakfast lets A/V club make it happen... maybe the Geek Squad can help out too :D

Also if I remember the bitrate on mine was something in the mid 200\'s. Gotta download it again on my laptop to double check though.

Lossy, yes. Still sounded way better than any Breakfast album ever and that was on some shitty speakers I had at work. Actually, why aren\'t I blasting that on the surround sound right now? haha Trey + Philharmonic Divided Sky for the meantime

I ain\'t got teh mod powerz like you if you wanna move my posts rage it up. It was a relevant issue at the time of release. Just tryin to help.

no you fucked up BIG time tuna.  what the fuck were you thinking ??  wowzers thanks a lot jim !  way to keep this raging board in order !   damn.  seriously great work mods :sigh:

gab wtf?  i didn\'t say anything to you.  i\'ve defended you on here before when you\'ve gotten into tiffs with people...  guess i wont anymore.  didnt expect that from you.... :(

first you bash my mix of the record saying it\'s no different from the recording on archive, and now you\'re chewing me out for doing the TINY bit of moderation i do on here?  sorry gavin, but that\'s really not cool and i think you owe me an apology.  i\'ve done nothing to elicit such nasty remarks.

tuna, post where ever you want, i was just trying to keep things tidy and organized.

Can you ladies take this to PM\'s? this is the album thread  :D j/k

I\'m waiting for Adrian\'s "Vessel" to arrive before I buy and dl "Live As Is". I kinda want to listen to both albums sequentially for the first time.

This album is awesome. It\'s so nice to listen to top-notch sound quality Breakfast.

Listening to it, I kept wondering why this can\'t happen more often? I\'m really asking WHY, not complaining or anything. How do logistics as far as time and money go into mixing a live show at this high quality? Cobb, I\'m expecting answers from you obviously. Thanks!

Hmmm, maybe its just me, but I don\'t think the album and the archive recording sound the same. The archive one is great; there is a nice balance of sbd clarity and live ambiance that make a good matrix, to me. Live As Is is more clear. The separation of instruments is sweet. Chris\' bass lines are full and clear and the vox sound nice, loud and present.

One thing I really dig that I wish made it to the album is the little jam that precedes CMSS. That groove swoops around me and lifts me high, oh so high.

sounds exactly like the link i got from archive or wherever.   great shit but you guys must be smokin deemsters (leith)  if you think this is that unreal.   dont get me wrong im stoked as fuck they got a new release and it sounds amazing.  was hoping they dubbed the lyrics but obviously live as it means what it says.   thanks for the release tho bfast sounds great :)

Of course it sounds the same to you.
You\'re so full of shit your inner ear canals are blocked.

Dude the recording on archive:
DOES NOT HAVE THE CLEAN SOUND EVIDENCED ON LIVE AS IS.

IT DOES NOT HAVE THE BALANCE OF VOCALS SO CLEAR YOU CAN HEAR WHAT IS BEING SUNG BY WHO.

IT DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE LITTLE THINGS DONE BY JORDAN BROUGHT UP IN THE MIX SO THE JAMS SOUND EVEN FULLER THAN BEFORE.

IT DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE LITTLE THINGS DONE BY ADRIAN BROUGHT UP IN THE MIX.

IT DOESN\'T HAVE THE FULL BASS LOW NOTES PUSHED A BIT FURTHER.

It\'s a great recording but not as clean and revelatory as Live As Is.

well the big issue is money.  if i were to mix a live record like this for anyone else i\'d have to ask at the very least a thousand dollars for my time, maybe more.  needless to say, i didn\'t ask for that from the breakfast for this record.  the studio where i mixed it would normally cost a couple grand for the day, but i know the studio owner and swung a killer rate.  tracking the show was apparently relatively inexpensive, but that\'s the easy part.  i mean everything\'s getting mic\'d up anyway, so all you need to do is take prefader feeds from each of the tracks.

what WOULD be more feasible would be to multitrack a whole lot of shows, but only spend the money to mix the REAL gems.  i hope this answered your question.

as for FLAC files, without the okay from the band, i can\'t give that out, but once they give the word, i\'d be happy to provide a DL link to anyone that can show me proof of purchase.

thanks for all the kind words, guys.  i\'m really happy about how this record came out.

It does answer my question. Thanks. My main reason for asking was in considering the REAL gems too, such as the epic Iron Horse HLH, MFD @ Strange Creek this year...

Come end of the year that would be sick if the sound techy guys on .info could make an Ultimate Breakfast compilation (possibly based off the Jam of the Year threads) a la the Ultimate Phish bizz.

I guess just having a fresh taste of some high quality live recordings makes me want so much more. Still love listening to live TB no matter what the level of quality (which by the way is still very high with the team we have) but this type of clarity is really something I long for.

And of course I mean doing this in the cheapest manner possible. Not looking for everything to come out AS clean as this, but at least a mix where all instruments have equal juice.

Yeah I\'ll bring my Zoom H4N rig along to a bunch of the upcoming shows. And get a bigger memory card for it and find the AC Adapter. Matt or Chris can do whatever they gotta do with it (remember it can take 2 XLR mics + 2 built in condensers... but I don\'t have XLR mics so if you want to take full advantage of it you guys are gonna need to bring those along).

Strange Creek 2009 would fit on a single CD, right? Any way to cheaply pimp out the sound of this recording (I think it sounds great already...) and make a bootleg for merch? Like if somebody\'s got one of those Lightscribe CD burners and feels like ponying up for bulk CDs and jewel cases I don\'t see how this would cost very much at all.

See I was thinking just cheap downloads. The hard materials become wasteful, but if you have a $5 download/each for like 4 or 5 Ultimate Breakfast discs, I don\'t see how they\'d lose any money. Maybe not make a lot, but not lose any through material. I could be off, not sure how all this shit works, but to a novice merchandising guy it makes sense.

Agreed. Something like Live Phish releases.... maybe the AV crew\'s gear + my Zoom which you can plug into the soundboard or use 4 mics with, either way, they seemed to think if I got a big memory card for this unit we could get some pretty pimp recordings.

Then again I love archive.org ... maybe put a bit more touching up and multi-source mixing into the best shows that are worth charging to hear?

I dunno. I\'ll just bring my gear along and see if it actually makes the recordings sound noticeably better. I think Fitzy and Matt have been producing some stellar quality recordings lately but I assume this can only help

I\'ve had less time to mess around with it lately than I\'d hoped. Fitzy and Matt seemed to dig it though so I\'ll take their word for it.

I want to see what kind of recordings it\'ll do with a direct-input from a Boss BR-600 with COSM effects (suppose I could just record on the BR-600 but that thing\'s too complicated :P)
