Yeah never mind that Paul, how about ALL of this:

Quote
Wake Up In A Coma > Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode 2) > Wake Up In A Coma > Mooboo\'s Voodoo (Episode 2) > jam > Merge > When The Levee Breaks* > Hard Luck Harry**

:banghead::shock1:

Every single show I\'m waiting for them to play Merge and the ONE I decide to skip they play it...Brandon is going to kill me for talking him into skipping this show...I might not answer my phone all day if he calls me at work...:(

a-fucking-men! 11 people in the room when the music started. about 30 at the end of set 1, and MAYBE 45 total at the peak.

set 1 was insanely good, and then set 2 came along and shit all over it. unbelievable.

while the attendance was a disappointment, the show was FAR from it. folks, listen to me please. there are SIX shows left on the calendar for 2007. SIX. if you are on the fence about going to any particular show - GO. you WILL be kicking yourself afterwards if you don\'t, as many of you will be doing when you hear this show.

narragansett is a ghost town in late november.
too bad this gem wasn\'t dropped on more people.
a show this solid is gonna get some heavy rotation in my eardrums when the recording goes up [provided there is some sympathy for slackers [no car/license puts me in that category all too often. got lucky last night [real lucky!]].]
thank you breakfast/wheelhouse/liz for drivin\' my sorry ass/all you kind kind people.

yea, I could have made it to the show, but I would have had to leave in the middle of set 2, which with a monster like that we know wouldn\'t have happened, so I would have had to call out today which I couldn\'t afford to do. Damned either way.

i hear ya..... i\'m not going i was just being an ass...........

I\'ll go to see Assembly of Dust at the Living Room tonight, pass out some promo materials for the Middle East show and call it a weekend.

it\'s definitely time to play the Living Room. the freak\'n Wheelhouse is the perfect venue in the WRONG spot. plus they don\'t even have an ad in the free arts paper (the Providence Phoenix) play the Living Room or AS220 that is all maybe URI campus hall other than that.... don\'t bother. unless your playing in there basement RI\'er don\'t go to shows.

I\'ve got a question...  It may not be appropriate for this thread but its probably the most active one at the minute, I figured I\'d give it a shot.  I\'ve been following these guys since about 99.  I saw them the first time they came to my college (University of Hartford) and continued pretty intently until I began working in 2002.  I had a bit of a haitus until  the beginning  of 06 but haven\'t stopped since then. The break was far too long and I\'d forgotten how much I had enjoyed them, but it was incredible to see how\'d they\'d grown in talent.  Anyways... and now to my question.... I realize they had recently started with the new keyboardist Matt, but what has happened to some of their older songs?  Have they retired some of them (ie. Super Fly Phaddy Phat, Garcian Fishbowl, Phatty Boom Batty, Frankly Po Zest, just to name a few)?  Or are the slowly reintroducing them as Matt learns them?  Some of those are my favorites and just wondering why I haven\'t heard them in awhile.  I typically travel where ever in CT they play, getting outside of the state on week nights is a bit tough so maybe I just miss them.  Anyways.... just some food for thought and discussion.

i hate not trusting my ears, but i was sure someone else heard it. i needed at least that confirmation.

yeah, hint, maybe...
but yeah, with the quality of that show, it really is hardly worth mentioning.

hhaaahaahahahhahahaaaa what a freakin EPIC show!!!! Of the 99 I\'ve now seen, this is definitely up towards the top. I can honestly say I have not had that much fun at a breakfast show in a while!!

the band was incredibly tight last night - some of the best jamming i\'ve heard since matt joined up. HLH was a treat as always, sounded so much fuller than previous versions (dobz)... not a single body was stagnant during Thumpasorus - they brought the funk!

But, no doubt, second set was where it was AT. I have to admit that I have never really been a fan of Rust, but hotdamn, it was a KILLER way to start the set, great jamming, and set a fantastic tone for the rest of the night. but honestly... coma>ep2>coma>ep2 owned the night!!!!!! the crowd was absolutely LOONEY (or it may have just been me in the looney classification) but hot damn, totally emotional, arms the the air, heart-pumping rendition of a breakfast classic. a version that you just surrender to. awesome awesome awesome.

GREAT to see everyone last night !!! and may i be the first to say : WELCOME BACK JOSH f\'n DOBSON! ooooh how we have missed you. it was awesome to see the sound dude groovin at the stage instead of anxiously/obnoxiously blocking my way and screwing up the sound. your presence truly made the evening complete.

thanks to dave, mike, pitch for an awesome ride up!

i can only hope that my 100th show is as epic.... see ya\'ll at the Middle East :D

what a beautiful and magical night last night!  i loved hlh>thumpasaurus (so nasty!!  everyone GOT DOWN with their badselves), and all of set 2 and the encore.  i absolutely LOVED coma>mooboos voodoo>coma>mooboos voodoo, i felt like i was in a dream.  when the levee breaks was a great cover to play- i totally approve, i\'m glad no one in the band attempted plant\'s voice haha.  many thanks to jocelyn and james for picking us up in boston, and gabe and melissa for the company!  great seeing everyone else too!!  can\'t wait for the middle east!

Best of the Matt shows I\'ve seen. The jam to open was exceptional and set the tone for a night that featured outstanding segues, risk-taking, and bust outs. Great to see everyone out and having such a fun time.

great to hear this show rocked...and that matt had a stellar performance, cause i think hes getting better and better every show.  i thought he was great at fairfield.  he\'s really starting to come out of his shell with his improv work and rippin on the organ.

see everyone at toads.

and dave...i know you want us to support the band, but i think its not us thats the problem with the crowd sizes.  theres really only so much a small group like the active .info community can do, and i think the folks here do a great job at coming to a ton of shows.  its really the "other" people that we need to get locally to come to shows that dont travel very far distances to see the band but who will go see them if they are in town.  if 50 of us from here go to EVERY show, thats still only 50 people at each show, ya know?  the outsiders need to start coming more.

Hat\'s off too you dude. I am a hoo haa when I comes to sleep; I slept 2:30-6 and dragged through the first few hours of work today. The one thing I have to say about the breakfast is unlike noise or metal, I am generally not def after B-fast shows.

Also, I refuse to believe that I am the only person who wanted to commit acts of extreme warfare against the rhode island highway department for working on that road. I somehow managed to get back on 95 in WESTERLY...
But I might have taken a few wrong turns.

Great show.

Speaking of attendance...if they want more than 11 people at the start of the show and they want to play in rhode island, roger willaims fled massachusetts and founded a palantion about 50 miles south of Boston and named it a term which was, at the time of his flight, another name for heaven. I will grant the the city is far from that now, but it has a few good venues that would draw more people than 45.

oh no, believe me, i know. we all do our part. but i\'m just trying to lend some friendly advice to everyone and anyone who will listen.

this very thread provides evidence of our very own .info people being on the fence about going to last night\'s show, not going, and completely hating themselves for it today. it happens all the time. i\'m just trying to help.

Great seeing everyone. Incredible show. I won\'t elaborate because my thoughts have pretty much all been expressed by everyone else already.

Despite the small crowd, it was great to see that everyone there was really listening and jamming in his/her own way. A small crowd, but a good one.

Melissa/Esther/Gabe- glad you guys came with us. Made for an even better night. Sorry my car is so messy. Also sorry about the Total Eclipse of the Heart. yikes.

I hate everyone who was there.  Mooboo\'s and Coma are in my top 5, it would figure I would miss them because someone was afraid she\'d be tired at work today.  They played Mooboo\'s>Coma>Mooboo\'s at Porter\'s one time and I was in heaven...I have since returned to earth...that would\'ve sent me back.  These guys are the best.  I was going to not go tonight out of shear frustration, but Dave assured me that the last shows were NOT to be missed.  I guess ya can\'t win \'em all.  See ya tonight.  FUCK!

I, like Gfunk, arrived pretty late (during the end of Hard luck).  Awesome time, really really good playing, really good sound.  Doin it big nah kid yellin for doughboy with john/paul/george/ringo/mikey for the encore.

Can anyone clarify for me- i know tim was singing the hardluck chorus at the end of the show- but did they not play that part earlier, or was it a reprise of sorts?

I will concur with whoever said there was a first tube tease.  definite tease, as stephengencs got all excited and mr. palms repeated it.

Adrians new drum set has him doing all sorts of sick tight fills, drum rolls are insane, and he has been absolutely on fire the last few shows i\'ve seen.

simpletwistupdon, were you at wheelhouse?    and i miss all those songs as well (with a possible exception of phaddy, i see that song as a rarity, bust-out type tune nowadays), hopefully we\'ll be gettin em soon!!

Speakin of which, why hasnt  love lake been played again? didn\'t they break it out in colorado?

I was all about the intro SCI jukebox jam.  I gave Matt a 60 second rundown on why Cheese sucks, but Kyle Hollinsgsworth is cool, and he hopped right on stage and commanded it to the next level.

Just want to say after seeing maytishu (sp?) last night, I completely agree. My ears are still ringing.

yes, the breakfast is not as damaging as noise/metal shows, but the volume that breakfast shows are at is still damaging over time.  invest $10-15 in a pair of etymotics http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx. these are great cause they reduce volume without muffling the sound. you\'ll thank me in 10 years.  i\'m 29 and i already have damage from all the shows i\'ve been to (i have ringing in one ear every so often)

if you want a really good deal on those plugs i\'ll post a link where you can get them really cheap when i get to work in a little while.

potsom, that\'d be awesome. I\'ve wanted a good pair for a while but I was only doing like one show a month for a while and it didn\'t bother me. Since upping the show count I\'m feeling it. Thanks!

I wasn\'t going to go to mayflystu  at $30 a ticket so I never grabbed any promo matterials. Dave shot me a text in the morning that he could get me in, I went but never printed any promo stuff. I dropped the ball. I suck.

I enjoyed listening to the first set more than the second. Although the rust was very good... the  Mooboos jamwas kinda of unique and quirky sounding but fell a little flat in terms of really going places I thought.

WONDERFUL AMAZING NEWS!

Have fun at your 100th princess!

That\'s crazy that they post the entire set. Good stuff.

Awesome jam to open up the 1st set. Yet absolutely clear that Matt is not all that impressive rhythmically. Sorry but I\'m not going to just give in on this subject. He knows his shit but he\'s jerky as hell, especially in his leads. And no, I don\'t think it\'s a style thing. Still very happy he\'s in the band, but he\'s also lucky to be in this band.

Reality check time!

Your theory that matt has "average talent" and poor rythym is dog shit.

Just forget about it and move on.

Do you seriously think matt is lost rhythmically in the opening jam from this show?

If yes then state a specific minute mark when you consider him to be off rhythmically and I will tell you why your wrong.

I\'ll tell you why your wrong anyway.

He is a brilliant JAZZ musician.

This opening jam is a perfect example I am glad you brought it up.

During the initial build up and peak matt is on point and raging right along the whole time. Then around the 8 minute mark when the jam gets all quirky and even a little jerky (oh no!) then busts into a super styled out groove in a way like you have never heard the band play before ....He\'s not lost or off beat!

It\'s not a happy accident.

It\'s stylistic.

His playing outside the box like that is what makes that jam go the places it goes.

It\'s what MAKES that jam \'awesome\' as you yourself even admit it is.

It\'s what taken this band to the next level.

snap out of it kid0

Did I not say in my post, "And no, I don\'t think it\'s a style thing." I still absolutely disagree with you. I finished listening to the whole first set about an hour ago and there are a ton of "ouch" moments in his rhythm. It\'s not style, it\'s that he can\'t keep up. I\'m not throwing the towel in by any means, I do realize that he is new to an incredibly gifted band and things will improve. But at the moment, yes, I think his rhythms are off quite often.

What makes the jam awesome is simply having that extra layer and freeing up Tim\'s hands to focus on guitar. They were a trio for what, a year and a half, and they themselves grew without the 4th element. It just took a fourth element to be able to display that growth and what they learned they wanted to do once their hands weren\'t tied trying to fill that empty space.

I\'ll listen again to point out specific spots...

Also, I\'m not saying that Matt is a chump on keys. I think he is good and would sound great amongst average musicians. However this is not the case.

there is still times when he loses a groove and it takes him a while to find his way back.

yes.

but that doesn\'t mean he is an average musician with poor rhythm who cant hang.

sheesh.

lighten up man.

Alright, I just listened to the first 6 minutes again and it\'s not even worth posting specific time frames. To me, I just think, even for a jazzy musician, he\'s a touch late on at least half of the turnarounds. It sounds like his fingers freeze for a moment and then blurt a bit tardy. And he just doesn\'t really groove, imo, when the jam is begging for a fluid run amongst his quirkiness. Dude, I don\'t think I need to wake up. Nor do I think you do. I think his presence has brought the band to the next level (and I\'m not saying any player could have) but there are many out there that could have. Sorry, just don\'t find him to be that great.

I never said he was an average musician by the way. I said he was born with average natural talent and has absolutely made the most of it, meaning he has become an above-average musician through lots and lots of practice. Which is why I\'m not trying to bash him, I actually have a lot of respect for him because of this.

Anyways, I feel pretty light on the subject. Just wanted to express my opinion. And I know that\'s all it is.

Damn I love having Dobs back on sound. Vocals especially.

Matt is on keys brilliant.  I\'m not just saying that as a fan of this band.  I think his "offbeats" as you call them, are really beyond our realm and scope.  Kinda like Adrian\'s beats for a newb.  They can\'t keep up with his tunes.  it\'s ok, just try your best, guy. someday, we\'ll all "get" your rhythm. ;)
Title: Setlist: 2007-11-29b - Wheel House Tavern; Narragansett, RI

I think you can stick to your opinion of brilliance, and I\'ll stick to my opinion of "offbeats". I was a newb to this band once, and Adrian\'s beats were never \'beyond my realm and scope\', just like Matt\'s abilities are not \'beyond my realm and scope\'. I think Adrian in the grand scheme of drummers is absolutely top-notch where Matt,  in the universe of keyboardists, is not. That\'s the difference for me. Like I said before, just wanted to express my opinion and I know that\'s all it is. I just listened to the rest of this show and I still feel the same way. The HLH jam is awesome, TO ME, unless I focus on what Matt is doing. He sounds sloppy, way out of rhythm with the flow of the jam, and actually downright annoying with his clav banging......... TO ME.  I\'m not at all saying you guys should think my opinion is the truth, just as I wouldn\'t want that shit flipped on me. I know that there isn\'t and shouldn\'t be a finite truth when talking about music, especially improv. That\'s key to the beauty of it all. There\'s no   x + y = z.

Let me put it this way (in the light that this \'other\' band is mediocre before having a TB member join): If Tim joined another band, I\'d listen to them without a doubt. If Adrian joined another band, I\'d be all ears. If Ron joined another band, I\'d give it a shot and probably wouldn\'t sustain interest. If Matt joined another band, I\'d completely forget about his future as a musician. Once again, glad he\'s on board, he adds that sorely needed 4th element, but as an individual musician my opinion is very indifferent-- meh, if you will. I\'m far from convinced that he\'s "the perfect fit" for The Breakfast, he\'s just simply good enough for me. Sorry if this seems arrogant, not at all my intention, just my feelings.

I just listened to this again and I think there is a "First Tube*" tease in the jam between LDZ and Wake Up In A Coma. It is roughly between 0:35 and 1:15 in the song.

*I don\'t my tubes well enough to tell if it\'s first, last, inner or just plain tube. Can someone else listen to this?
